@@PurpleGuyMakesBeats Hi Shawn! Thanks for alerting me to this, and I looked in to it to found my channel is verified, but UA-cam doesn't give you a badge until you have 100,000+ subscribers. If you like any of my videos, please share! And here's my interview while working on Coraline: ua-cam.com/video/1y-UG-ZNTDM/v-deo.html
You worked on coraline?? That’s so cool I love coraline! I don’t think I’ll ever get over the fact that’s it’s not animated and it’s actually claymation/ puppets
I don't think you'll see this but if you add a little bit of baby oil (like a drop to a lot of clay) and work it through it can make it softer and easier to use. It'll become very soft to sculpt! :)!!!
@@khl1tty214 I wouldn't use baby oil with air dry clay since the moisture in air dry clay is not oil based. Incorporating a small amount of water into air dry clay is usually a better choice. I will warn though, using air dry clay and not sealing it with a spray and painting on it can sometimes re-soften the clay and you'll encounter issues from it.
if you add petroleum jelly to the clay it helps to soften it up, all polymer clay gets pretty hard if it’s cold or old, but this trick can really help, you can brush on isopropyl alcohol over the surface before you bake and this helps to smooth the surface and remove dust and finger prints :)
@@alexvalentine5091 lol hi it’s going very terrible I started and it looked so bad so I took the head off and now It’s just sitting in my room waiting to be finished I’ll give you an update when I work on it again
Yours came out so good! And I love the realistic curls 💕💕 I just used yarn lol. I made one for my friend and myself and I agree the whole process of making these is rlly fun :D
Very impressive, she looks lovely and hip indeed. I think sometimes winging it into making dolls via wires, clay sculpting, and hand or machine sewing is always great. You learn a lot experience-wise in winging it or practicing when you're new to it all crafting or d.i.y. wise.
I remember making a claydoll for art class in high school. I have a doll idea and imso happy I came across your video. I will try it out, wish me luck :).
You make this look like so much fun! I’ve been debating making one for a while now but you’ve inspired me to give it a go! Absolutely love how you did the hair. Good job girl!! 😍
just put some good music or show/movie on and use it as a time to relax and practice your art. i have the same issue but i just try to get out of my head and just enjoy the moment and creating
Oh! For the whole glue deal at the top of the head, all you have to do is glue on some chunks of hair the opposite way you want them to lay, and then flip it over. And then, if needed, do it the other way too. I'd suggest checking out Dollightful's videos for some tips and tricks, because I'm not very good at explaining it here. XD
Heeeeey your work is gorgeous!! You might have not been sure about how working with the clay was turning out but from this end of things the end result is won-der-ful. Like. Wow. Sculpey is definitely one of the better ones for sculpture work because you can get good clean lines with it and it doesn’t go powdery, but yeah, it can be frustrating to smooth out. One of my instructors suggested using lighter fluid - like, painting it on in thin layers over problem areas where you get nicks from your nails and letting it COMPLETELY EVAPORATE from the project - and then sanding it smoother once it was baked and set, but frankly I was never brave enough to try it out. 😰 But on a different note, when pieces fall off, this brand also has “Liquid Sculpey” which can be used to seal seams and fill gaps and then baked again to set. There are videos out there for using it, I think. Anyway, I could go on all day about how cool it was to see you tackle this project, but I’ll cut it short here and finish it off with THANK YOU SO MUCH for sharing the process!!
Ahhh its so cute!!! I made one myself like a month ago. It was such a fun project. but legit, your little you is the literal cutest!! If I may suggest a way to fix that glue patch on top of her head... *Take some more hair, lay it on top of half of the patch but falling down the side and make sure its perpendicular between your eyebrows and glue it like normal. Once its dry flip it over the opposite way its laying (you can flat iron/blow dry while you hold/heat it to crimp it/make a fold) then do it again with another piece of hair right next to the other one and flip that the opposite way. This creates a "natural" looking part in the hair. For just a smooth look for like ponys and buns just take one piece of hair and lay it on the head towards the front, parallel to your eyebrows like you're about to make some suuper long bangs. Glue that down and flip it over, creasing it. Blend the curls with the hair underneath and voila. If you wanna see an example of what I'm talking about, check out @Hextian's doll repainting channel. He makes wig wefts for the dolls he redesigns. His channel is amazing.
Hi, I'm late to the party as usual, but I wanted to suggest (if you still have your doll) using poster putty to stick her eyes on. It won't be permanent, strictly speaking, but it'll get them stuck on there pretty well.
I think yours is sooo good, I want to make mine. Hopefully I can make them of people just for the fun of it and make my own characters and also create clothing and stuff
Depending on the kind of clay you're using, you can use water to help smooth it out before its dried (or cured), and/ or you can sand it after the clay is set to help get some of the unwanted texture off the surface! I 100% recommend dollightful's channel for cool tips and tricks for sculpting :)
love it! in the middle of mine as well, taking too long for the fabric to come in tho ugh Still it's pretty awesome to come across black artists takes on their own coraline dollies
thx 😊 it was rlly fun getting creative and making a unique little doll ahhh! Would love an update on yours tho feel free to send a pic through my insta dms !
wondering if you sealed the paint for the head with any sort of varnish or sealant? asking because i've seen a few diff videos and no one mentioned that they did and i'm making my friend a doll so i'm kinda on a time limit!
After watching this video I took a nap and in my dream I had made a coraline doll like this when I was younger and it started to slowly follow me and poke me with needles.
I worked on the film Coraline, and I really LOVE the eyelash button option you came up with! Really creative!

do i apply gesso before painting on the clay
Soooo cute
When you put the turtleneck on, did you sew it together after placing it on the doll? 💞💞
I’m making mine right now and it feels like eternity 😅 one thing though I would NOT suggest air dry clay as the hardening time is 72 hours
A good technique when using that kind of clay is put water on your fingertips
Which clay do you use and what temp you bake it at ?
How many degrees do I have to put it in the oven?
where did you get the body sack ?? and what the name of it
