I literally cry every time that melodic outro to Gateway kicks in. One of the best prog epics of all time. Definitely in my top 5 sidelong epics. That medley is PERFECTION
This was when I first saw IQ, and I’ve been a fan ever since. So to me, this is the best IQ line up. What a fantastic time for prog fans. Thanks for sharing. ❤
Recorded live at a rainy day at the VfB Waldstadion, Gießen, Germany, on July 16th, 1988. Tracklist: 1. No Love Lost 2. Nomzamo 3. Sold on You 4. Nothing at All 5. Human Nature 6. The Wake / Headlong / The Last Human Getaway (closing section)
Saw IQ the first time in June 1985 with Peter Nicholls in Glasgow. Then two times in 1987 with Paul Menel in Düsseldorf and Bochun and then the fabulous comeback of Peter Nicholls with the album Ever in Kleve, Germany. His comeback in IQ started with a guest appearance in Paris 1990. So between the leaving of Paul Menel and the comeback of Peter Nicholls was only one year.
Thanks for this post which I am enjoying thoroughly as I actually think Menel is a superb vocalist and just love his vocals on Nomzamo and Are you ......
Thank you, thank you, tnank you for sharing this piece of musical history. I've never come across this before, and I've seen many IQ videos. IQ live is an experience you never tire of, the musicianship and songs are timeless. Great to see and hear the early appearances of this band.
Great asset to the true IQ Follower, very Gratefull, this was the period i found my interest in this Great Band, till now saw them many times in Holland Zoetermeer, never disappointing, especially the fact that its a period inwhich Paul did the vocals , makes it a collectors item, Thanks very Much Gerard.....
So great to finaly see this after all this years. I miss my friend Jurry who passed away a few years ago. How much I would love to had a change to see this with him. Thanks for sharing this.
I was there! Don't remember it raining though. Only caught the tail end of this set as we had just spent 3 days In Amsterdam getting seriously wasted. Tull were pretty good.... Unlike the food.
Menel estuvo en Nonsamo y are you siting confortably, despues en los 90s volvió Nichols. Me fascina The Wake y tales from the lust atic, pero tambien me gustan los discos con Menel.
great to see this footage. met paul and the band a few yrs before at poole arts centre when they supported? (should of been headlining!) magnum. not my fav era of IQ but paul menel does a great job here. a good mixture of the more commercial tracks with their classic prog.
Que buen show! Esta época con el vocalista Paul Menel un gran cantante, estamás serca del sonido AOR y algo pop, por momentos. Un gran album hasta que volvió su cantante original que es más bien un toque más Peter Gabriel en su impronta musical.
The IQ website gives three possible dates, these were all supporting Jethro Tull. The Giessen show was circulating as an audio bootleg many years ago but I don't have a copy to compare to this show. 09.07.88 Zeppelin Field, Nurnberg, Germany 10.07.88 Frauenfeld , Switzerland 16.07.88 Giessen Football Stadium, Germany
I met IQ with Nien in a pond is here ... then I met them with Peter Nichols on vocals .... well they are two incredible voices .... Paul with a scary extension ..... Peter with a fantastic interpretative and melodic ability .... I admit that it is difficult to assert which of the two is the best ..... there is no doubt that in the album Nine in a Pond is here the songs previously sung by Peter Nichols, with the voice of Paul Menel ....
Hope to see PL's new band The Essentials at Darlington Forum on April 5th 2022. My band used to cover Common Ground, and Tim got the position Kev offered me in Prognosys. I saw him play with them at the Quakerhouse, Darlington. Nice lad; he's bald now - unlike me!
I'm not so familiar with this era of the band; I'm currently soaking it up and enjoying it. I came to IQ very late for some reason, late 90's. I had been listening to Marillion, Pallas and the classic 70's prog bands from around 1983, but shamefully skipped IQ! I've seen them live 3 times since 2001 and they are always magnificent. The Menel era is sounding closer to Gabriel's solo work than that of Genesis IMO.
The Menel era is not my favorite in IQ history. Nomzamo has a couple of great songs but Are you sitting...is boring, besides the magnificent Nostalgia and Falling apart... Although Peter’s live performance sometimes need a autotune, Pauls live singing is terrible. But very nice to see this period of IQ.
0:01 No Love Lost
5:15 Nomzamo
12:37 Sold On You
17:50 Nothing At All
22:08 Human Nature
31:30 The Wake / Headlong / The Last Human Gateway
My favourite IQ line-up, playing songs from my favourite IQ album. Paul Menel was a unique front man with a great voice and sense of humour.
I literally cry every time that melodic outro to Gateway kicks in. One of the best prog epics of all time. Definitely in my top 5 sidelong epics.
That medley is PERFECTION

PAUL MENEL...THE VOICE.....AMAZING......THE LIVE VOICE.....AMAZING....UFFFF
+Marta Ovi What's wrong with Paul's voice? I have to say he does a great job here, very close to his studio-work.
Marcel Gommans yes i say this. so stupid really? your voice is perfect hereeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why no Promises, DAMNNNN
Amazing, thanks a million times dear uploader, this is beyond rare.
Just wonderful, I was lucky to meet Paul Menel a few years ago at the Peel, great singer.
No way! That's a rarity... and after IQ, P.L. Menel practically disappeared from the music scene, right? That's a shame because he was really good.
Saw IQ the first time in June 1985 with Peter Nicholls in Glasgow. Then two times in 1987 with Paul Menel in Düsseldorf and Bochun and then the fabulous comeback of Peter Nicholls with the album Ever in Kleve, Germany. Great to see this line up performing live, what a find! Thanks for uploading.
Human nature its brilliant. One of my favs. And Paul was amazing too.

Great find. I enjoyed this more commercial period of IQ, but I've loved them since too!

Well that’s something I never thought I’d hear, someone other than Peter singing The Wake😯
gracia a quien subió este video. .soy fanático de iq, pero nunca los había visto con su primer vocalista. .

Chris White Not sure about Martin - he was wearing the hat even back then!
surgically removed ...
+Robert Smith
He was bald even in these years.
Thanks for sharing this tape!
Good old days
А мне всегда Пол нравился больше, чем Питер и вообще Nomzamo это мой самый любимый их альбом. И концерт клёвый получился!

Human Nature starts at 22:05
NICE HAIRCUTS !!!!!
Who is the cameraman?
Give me that camera dude i'll show you how to filmed IQ properly!!
We like!
One album with Broon & Cooky's pinched Neil Peart's moustache
What did Martin use for Mellotron sounds?
no Peter, no Iq
Looks like the worst setting for enjoying this band. The best was yet to come!
No ! How could you suggest something like that ! Autotune is for talentless pop stars who can’t sing.
Pure jewel. Thanks so much.80's forever!
