After seeing it today (Oct 13), it's probably my second favorite film of the year (out of the nearly 50 films of 2024 i have seen) being only behind Dune Part 2. Really love the performances from Cory Michael Smith and Dylan O'Brien
Not knowing much about the building of the show but the people involved careers I really enjoyed the way they depicted the young start of this fledgling idea
I think like the real SNL, for most viewers, the big novelty of this movie will be the celebrity impressions. Drama nerds however will probably appreciate the chaotic and frenetic behind the curtain energy.
I totally agree I'll sell a movie critic and I just reviewed this film and it is really great I think it deserves a nomination for this year if they remember it but the performances wow I don't understand your friend how could he not understand the actor playing two parts I don't know how he pulled that off but he did I think the reason why we don't need as many of these people and get to spend more time with them is because this is the little bit of time that they were together and trying to put this show on its wondering why how did they ever get on the air
I think the tricky part of this is if Dylan is as passionate about blues music in general? The thing about Aykroyd and Belushi were that they were also actual musicians that loved the music and it bled into every crevice of that classic. I don't want to poopoo Dylan b/c Rocha rants about his performance so I trust you and him on his ability to act, but I think a movie like the Blues Brothers would need that extra something?
Hang on, Rocha, let me pull out my Inner Sneider... dare I say... InSneider? And go with his take on Bob Dylan except apply it to SNL. Who's gonna watch this Rocha!? Who's this movie for?? Do kids even know SNL these days? 😜😂
Does the film work if you don't know anything about these people or SNL in general? The only SNL stuff I've seen are old clips of that cowbell scene with Christopher Walken lol
I didn't start watching SNL until the 90s, but I knew who the cast were, just cause I'm an entertainment lover. I knew about Andy Kaufman and Jim Hensen on SNL because of other movies I've seen.
SATURDAY NIGHT: A BACKSTAGE HISTORY OF SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE by Doug Hill and Jeff Weingrad is better than the Shales book. It ends with the 1984-85 season with Billy Crystal.

It took me an hour to realize Nicholas Braun was Jim Henson and Andy Kaufman lol.
I agree. Just saw it. 4/5. What an impressive cast.
i love me some dylan obrien, wait till you see Caddo Lake, i loved it... I think i may watch any Dylan Obrien project i can get my eyes on
Honestly this should have been either a tv movie or series

Enjoyed the movie a lot, Dylan could play a young Elwood Blues Brother in a prequel.

Just finished watching the movie rn and it’s amazing
Hopefully, I'll get to see it really soon.
8/10 enjoyed it for the most part

I really wish this was playing at my theater

I didn't know about the history and still really enjoyed it.

@@bigjsquare1988 Cool! Will give it a shot. Thanks.
Where is your terrifier 3 review
The documentary SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE: THE FIRST FIVE YEARS is better

Disagree. Both are equally good.
@@JohnRochaSays The Shales book becomes repetitive. Especially the Lorne Michaels chapter. And I'm biased, because I never liked SNL after 1984.
