    Our coach has us add a band around the ankles. It definitely works the upper body and core and you can also feel quite quickly if you're out of alignment/fishtailing at all.

    I used pull buoy between the knees for 6 months to get my legs in position, lock the stomach and lower back and keep legs tight. Don't need them now.

    I use paddle but not a lazy log. Still requires me to kick, but I use a simple easy two-kick, just enough to keep myself level

    Decided to swim the English Channel with 3 months of training after not swimming for 10 years. I found doing the vast majority of my swimming with a pull-buoy for the first 4-6 weeks was a fantastic help in building up strength and endurance very quickly. Sea swimming (like with a wetsuit in triathlon) is also more buoyant so the lack of kicking with full stroke wasn't such an issue; you don't have to kick so much to keep your hips up and in marathon swimming you'll only be probably doing maybe a 2 beat kick.

    That's cool man I'm gonna give that a try next week. I never used a pull bouy though I used paddles 👍

    Just wondering, should you be slower with paddles/pull buoy compared to just free swim? Even though I am a triathlete, I find that my legs float really well and I don't have to kick to keep them up and streamlined. I find I get less connection through my core when I use a pull buoy and I swim slower with it on, should I ditch the pull buoy in my training and just do paddle-only sets to build up my strength?

    I usually try and put in a longer (4km in pyramid intervals) swim over the weekend, but it's getting alot harder to do as the pool gets rammed. Can I get the same benefits if I swam 2k but with paddles?

      roy sullivan I normally use it less with kids. They require a smaller buoy if they are 10 or younger because too much floatation can make it difficult for them to swim in controlled way
