It looks to me like you are cleaning a staple yarn carpet. Staple yarn carpets are made from the cut off from continuous filament and as such will shed or pill continuously. This is more commonly found with nylon and this shedding is not actually damaging in most cases. I remember doing a wool are rug years ago with my 15" Orbitec with a cotton pad on it and it shed so much I thought for sure I had destroyed it. After post vacuuming it looked totally fine. A year later I was back in the home again and cleaned the same rug with my rotary and there was minimal shedding this time. Wool rugs are of course also staple yarn and there are variables in the quality of the wool as well. I too have a green brush for my Oreck but I have never used it on carpet as I think it is very aggressive. I might use it on an Olefin but If I feel a brush is needed I reach for the black one as it agitates well but is less stiff. the black on this rug looks to me like footwear transfer and that is very difficult to remove. Whenever you see really black areas like that check out what they wear on their feet and if leather sole slippers, black neoprene or foam type soles as that is often the culprit. To test take their favourite slipper and some of your spotter on a white towel and rub the sole hard. If it turns the towel black then you know what you are up against and you can educate your customer and explain that the blackness is a staining effect from the footwear and there is a limit to your ability to remove this. Leather sole slippers also can transfer the dye from the leather and that is permanent too.

Great job. We use the black brush on ours, as we find the green brush is a bit harsh. Even more so on wool carpets. Green and orange brush great for tiles. Great job again.

Hi Paul, Do you think some of the harsh chemicals the homeowners used damaged the fibers even before you ran the green brush on it.

Are you going to switch to a softer brush from now on, just to be on the safe side?
Oreck has the Green Brush they are selling on Amazon listed as being for hardwood floors.
However, they have a Nylon Black Brush that says it is specifically for carpets that is actually on sale right now if you want to grab it!
