The Rhodes V8 Pro plugin is worth its weight in gold. I'm here to prove it, because they made a believer out of me! Listen to me play the greatest love songs in the world on the warmest, earthiest keyboard I know!
Video Recorded Using:
Earthworks SV33
Korg SV1 (used as a controller)
Rhodes V8pro plugin
Clicked for the Rhodes, stayed for the love songs. Your vocal mic is also Aimee Smooth.
I love that you are able to do this. I could listen to you sing these songs forever. So grounded in the gathered beauty of the past with the beautiful tenderness of your unique expression of Holy love.
8:17 Time in a Bottle. Beautiful. For years Jim’s wife, Ingrid, was a customer of mine here in San Diego (we helped her with some of her and son AJ’s social media, about a decade ago), and I am certain she would love this rendition. I know I do. Another great video. Thank you, Aimee.
I''m so glad Rhodes reached out to you. I watched your Rhodes live stream, and I was waiting for this video. Thanks for making me happy!
I fell in love with the Rhodes piano in 1969 when Fender was passing out suitcase combos for schools. I can't go very long without my Rhodes fix, but no worries, they are everywhere in every genre. I think the ip is now firmly in the best possible hands of the amazing new Rhodes company. The V8 Pro plugin is fabulous, but I still crave the real thing and I don't even play!
There's no end to VST tweaks !! One of the greatest inventions of electronic music. It's so extremely exciting to feel the potential of such plug-ins... Of course, however, for getting such beautifully sounding music from any instrument, there's also no substitude for those talented and wonderful hands of yours, madame Nolte...
I bought the plugin after your livestream. It IS amazing. Can’t wait to get your presets. Thanks Aimee and thanks Rhodes!! I owned a 73 suitcase years ago. Ahh memories.
Thank you, Aimee! So nice to know about this plug-in. You sold it to me with the very first song. I so miss the Rhodes I played in college in the late 70's. You shared some wonderful song choices and performed them so well. I'd love to hear you play "It Might Be You" from the movie "Tootsie" with the Rhodes preset. What a great way for me to start the morning. Keep it up, girl!
Loooove that song too.
Stop it. This is killin’ me. So f’ing beautiful!
❤ 🎹 ☮️
Killin it Amy!! 🙏🏼
OMG!! So good Aimee! Your voice + Rhodes V8 Pro Plugin = Heaven! 🥰
I love your manner. Beautiful.
So nice. When a truly poetic lyric is matched with an incredible melody the results are magic. Your musicianship and musical taste are amazing. Thank you for sharing
That 70s phase incorporated into the Rhodes was the most memorable for me . Beautiful vibe and playing Aimee! 👍 I always love your playing!
Bravo Aimee very nice and cool, thanks for the share blessings
the Virtual Instrument World is an amazing one.....i'm glad to hear you're pleased with your new instrument/gift.
there's a lot of impressive Rhodes emulations out there but i'm imagining, and actually hearing you play, oh my god...
Wichita Lineman. and yep THAT line...is THE line.
Here's a love song many people have never heard. "Message to My Girl" written by Neil Finn. Originally recorded by Split Enz, Neil often performs this song live on solo piano - many examples are on UA-cam. I think this song would sound great on the Rhodes. I would love to hear what you come up with to match this song. I have introduced this song to many people over the years and it never fails to become a favorite of theirs. Hope you like it!
I love the way your lip curls up on the left side when you sing with passion!
Excellent! I grew up with songs like "Time in a Bottle" and "The First Time Ever...". Little did I know, that was NOT a typical decade for songs!
Aimee, leave it to you to do a simply great product video. I'll be watching on Nebula for the longer pieces. I have the Arturia Rhodes plugin, a workhorse that's just fine, but this Rhodes is definitely on my list and I'm looking forward to writing a song with your preset.
This one's an evergreen, man.
I haven’t been in love in so many years. It’s the best feeling in the world. I remember that much.
In reference to the love songs
Wow this episode is amazing! I love every song!
The Rhodes is by far one of my favorite kinds of keyboard sounds ever. God I would love a real one but I’d absolutely take this if it’s all I can get right now
I prefer the Orange Tree Samples Famous E Electric Piano. They sampled the specific Rhodes that was used on so many hit recordings back in the 80's.
Thanks for the tip. I bought this plugin and it is great.
Also, you can add (hang) a distortion in medium overdrive, then add high infiltrate EQ, to eliminate the harsh frequency - if keys already have a wah effect, it's can really pierce 😀
«Tale of eternity» can be made by adding Valhalla Delay with manually tuned for sweet feel, under certain keys sounding, but better to mix in 15-20% with rest of the audio.
Enjoy
Watched this right through. I think I love you
That Rhodes plugin does indeed sound excellent. I honestly wouldn't tweak those sounds too much.
Just beautiful...
Wonderfull music as always from you - I love everything Fender.
I would like to hear you do a compete album recording you playing and singing. Im sure others would agree. Thanks for doing what you do so well.
I do have four albums out🙌🏼🙌🏼
You are on super level
'Today I Started Loving You Again".. That's my fav. Thanks Aimee..
Everything you play or sing.. is so beautiful. ❤
It was a fun livestream! I was waiting for this, to hear which sounds you ended up going with, for each song.
I recognized the names of the presets, but I didn't remember what most of them sounded like. In my defense, the livestream wasn't yesterday🤣
That's not much of a defense! I'm glad I don't have to testify about anything. Some days, my memory plays tricks.
the Jerome Kern song sounds like something Stevie Wonder would write. Great video! Smooth as butter.
The Rhodes is a beautiful instrument. It can do ballads, ambient, jazz, rock,,, anything. It's found in every genre although I've never heard it used in classical music. I was playing Fur Elise on a Rhodes VST the other day & it was lovely, although I think an acoustic piano is more suited because of the later sections which are quite vigorous. But soft classical, especially Debussy type stuff, is brilliant on the Rhodes.
You seem to have some pretty cool stuff coming your way lately! Cool beans 😎🤓 those pre-sets sound great, they don't over power, nicely balanced.
I knowwww I feel so dang lucky 💙💙
Here in my country theres a song named " Piano Bar " by Engenheiros do Hawaii , they used this piano, pop rock music...
I have owned 4 Rhodes physical EPs and am a huge fan of the touch and sound. I use the Rhodes sounds in Logic and my Nord, often with a chorus effect. This plug in is nice, thanks.
Warm like your voice Aimee. Such a great match.
too much beauty packed in. Can't hardly take it.
Can someone explain the basics? I keep looking up "VST" and trying to figure out what software (or hardware) this "VST Plug-in" works with. All the websites I find seem to assume you understand the lingo. I get that these are virtual instruments, but what's the software and hardware framework that is needed?
The SW you need is called a DAW (Digital Audio Workstation). one option is Cakewalk, which is free (unlike the plugin, which is not). You'll also need a MIDI keyboard, but I guess you know that already,
Thanks for your beautiful renditions of these wonderful songs. The Rhodes patches, although authentic- sounding, were rendered almost indistinguishable from one another by the slow-panning chorus effect, which seemed to dominate the proceedings.
My old Roland FP-4 had an unforgettable Rhodes sound. It had that beautiful phased ring, plus that delightful bark when you laid into the keys. I haven't found that sound in any of my later Roland keyboards. My FP-4 went away when I traded it to a retiring music teacher for a couch and a couple of armchairs.
😂
In my dictionnary, Rhodes means Ray Manzarek and yes, the tune you are all imagining in your head right now as you read this comment. It might also mean Super Tramp's Rick Davis but in the end, this magical instrument is the finest of all and you've got to play it bloody well right.
Great video. Great songs! I also love "The Luckiest." My list would include "Longer" by Dan Fogelberg.
I enjoyed your performance a lot .
Hi Aimee - I love the new VST and especially love your version of 'Wichita Lineman' - The line you mentioned is also one of my all time favourites as well - Do you teach songs of this channel as I would love to learn this song from you. Thank you! Patrick
Three off the top of my head: "Long Ago and Far Away" (Kern/Gershwin), and (since I love the heartbreak stuff) "Faithless Love" (J.D. Souther, I think, for Linda Ronstadt) and the devastating "Caroline, No" (Wilson/Asher, of course!).
k.d. lang does one of the greatest covers of that Joni Mitchell song. yours is up there too! also love the Rhodes sound. Instant mellow vibes, or even funk!
Very beautiful music.
Great recording of the voice, about the VST i don't know.
Hello how do you do Aimee, greetings from Venezuela... I fallow you long time ago as a musician... is amazing the way that you play the piano and singing that beautifulls songs... God bless you
IMHO, the most iconic and memorable Rhodes intro was 1979's 'Babe' by Styx.
Do (Fender R. stuff):
- "Babe," by the Styxeses - what a gem...that one never gets old
- "Time Passages" - Al Stewart (not entirely sure that one's a FR, but it sounds awesome, whatever it is)
- Billy Joel stuff
- "Don't Let Me Down" (extra bonus points for that masterpiece)
- "Get Back"...NO, burn that one...if I hear that song _one more time_...
- "Daniel" (but thank God he retired, bless his heart - 'bout time)
Cred goes out for doing:
- Wichita L. - who can write a song about a lineman, and have it turn into a gold-plated gem like that?
- God Only Knows - who could EVEN come up with that incredible chord progression and melody? Yet, somehow this guy did it, and made it work so beautifully.
- A Case of You - don't get me started on that one...we'd be here all day. "...love is touching souls, surely you touched mine, 'cause part of you, pours out me, in these lines from time to time." Such a beautiful marriage of lyrics and music. Somebody could write that ONE song, and call it a career.
- First Time Ever I Saw Your Face - I would argue the greatest female pop vocal performance ever. I thought Celine Dion was insane at the time for attempting to cover that one, but she pulled it off. And Aimee's no slouch singing it, either. What did I tell you about her vocal talent...huh?
- Something In the Way She Moves...you gotta be kidding me with that. Awesome!! Aimee is such an incredible musicologist!! Thanks for remembering us long-time Taylor fans with that one. I play it practically every time I reach for my guitar. (That one, and "You Can Close Your Eyes")
You’re killer!
Delightful. Rhodes not bad either.
I was very difficult to find a Rhodes (back in the days) that both sounded great and had great action. (Most had - for me -- very mushy action). There are magicians that can tweak Rhodes' action and tone, but they are rare and not cheep.
Nice
Great ad.
Did you only played the plugin, it seems I see the Rhodes keyboard too?
Yamaha S80 has good ones. Good tines.
"i LOVE YOU JUST THE WAY YOU ARE" By Billy Joel,, will sound great with RHODES
Didn’t this come out last year? Or is there a new version?
Yes, it’s not totally new. :-)
@@AimeeNolte thought so! i was listening thinking, wow, this is great! Then i realised i owned it!
The late great Kirsty MacColl, daughter of Ewen ‘1st time ever’ MacColl, was one of my favorite songwriters. Give this beautiful ballad, ‘Good For Me’, one of her last recordings before her untimely death, a try if your VST has a suitably spacey panned Rhodes. And if you can figure out its Brian Wilson-worthy harmonic wanderings.

Lovely!! ❤❤ soooo how does one get this?
Just google Rhodes V8 pro and you’ll see the website to download from!
@@AimeeNolte sweet
Hi Aimee, I came across your song 'Dear Tom' from your album on Spotify. Great song! Are we expecting a new album soon? Say yes :)
Working on it! Thx for listening! That’s an oldie!
I’m not very smart. Is the new Rhodes V8 a whole keyboard of is it a “plugin” like you called it? Like some gadget the size of an iPhone that plugs in somewhere to another keyboard so you can play. Thanks
Its software that you download from the Rhodes site 🙌🏼
You run it on your computer or laptop, and plug in your USB MIDI keyboard (or digital piano that features USB MIDI) to the computer. Then, you'd either listen thru your computer's headphones or external speaker output. If your computer doesn't have those, then you could get an audio interface or DAC (digital to analog converter) and a pair of headphones or external speakers. If you were to buy expensive software such as this Rhodes Mk8 VST, I'd recommend to wait until it goes on sale. Software tends to have steeper discounts, during sales, compared to hardware.
The Rhodes Mk8 is a real hardware instrument, a new Rhodes version. And the V8 plugin is a piece of software, a virtual instrument, meant to imitate the Mk8, I guess, on a computer.
I don't know if it is true but I heard that Bob Dylan called Wichita Lineman the best song ever written, that is saying a lot but even if it isn't true I still think that Jimmy Webb is one hell of a songwriter!😊
So did Pat Metheny, I think!
I agree. Have you read his memoir?
A Case of You destroys me every time. Sounded beautiful, even to a brontosaurus who can't move past the "pre-CBS" Fender Rhodes.
🧡
I'd love to have you give me about an hour of Michael McDonald music using that plug-in, Aimee!!! Sublime!!! ~Frank
Aimee, your singing and playing is beautiful as always. I don't like the V8 sound. It doesn't do justice to the Rhodes sound. There is no bell tone, and it just doesn't ring like a real Rhodes would. I think all the presets suffer from too much drive/distorted sound, (although it might some problem with the recording).
Do you like Rhodes more than piano?
Note the video timestamps... Who is Joanie Mitchell? any relation to Joni Mitchell?😄
what keyboard is she using?
Korg SV1
Nice to see your smiling face.
I must say I have some nice sounds on my YamahaP515. There are a slew of "options" that are sweeet.. especially the string patches.
I also own (and love) my kawai es920 for the piano sounds.
Great voice and playing BUT a proper demo would have you play some biting licks and comp that the Rhodes is so well know for. Also more tines would be nice and distortion when appropriate. you play it like a piano but there is a whole world of rock that uses the instrument differently.
There are tons of people reviewing this Plug in who all do that. I wanted to bring something beautiful and different and …me
@@AimeeNolte I meant no offense. What you bring is truly beautiful
🧡🧡🧡🧡.......
Time to Bust out some Steely Dan.
What. No Stevie Wonder. Criminal ;)
Please, Aimee, bring that real Rhodes in from the garage, repair it, and give it pride of place in your music room.
The real Rhodes will sound better. It'll be a bit less perfect than the sampled one, but that's it's charm. It's sad that it's still in the garage, and not being loved.
You can see it on my Stevie video - it hasn’t been in the garage long but I don’t have room for it in the house right now.
ok second
