    Beautiful video. I'm looking at doing this trail soon. What TH did yall start at and how far in was that waterfall campsite?

      Thanks for the comment Stephen! We started from the easternmost trailhead. Just past the 39:00 minute mark in the video I explain the location of the trailhead in Allison, AR using an aerial image. The campsite with the nice waterfall was about 2 miles from where we started. It sits kind of hidden off the left side of the trail right after crossing a broad creek (the one that the waterfall is on). The creeks will probably not have as much water in the fall. The area had quite a bit of rain the day before we hiked and the creeks and waterfalls were flowing well because of it. If you wait for the cooler temps and for the leaves to change color it will be a beautiful hike. There is much more to the trail toward the northwest. Thanks again for watching! Safe travels! Mark

    I'm planning to do some moto camping and need a light weight reliable camping stove. What would you recommend?

      Nothing beats a Jetboil for preparing dehydrated backpacking meals and coffee. I get fast boil times with minimal fuel use. A model called the MiniMo is my go to for most trips.

      Seriously. What the heck 😂

      Great question rick b! It started a few years ago when I heard a UA-camr (Sintax77) use the phrase "And now its cheeseburger time." at the end of one of his hiking videos. Cheeseburgers are my favorite "after hike" meal (ask anyone that knows me) so I started using the phrase at the end of my videos. I learned later that Sintax77 had been using it as a mainstay in all of his hiking videos. He even changed his channel icon to one with a with a hiker on top of a cheeseburger. Check it out his channel when you have a chance - its great! He's got 104,000 subscribers and even sells T-shirts with the phrase, "Its Cheeseburger Time." And yes, I bought one for myself. So, out of respect for my fellow hiking UA-camr, I decided to stop using it for my videos. Maybe I can sneak it in one more time and throw some credit his way. Until then, I'll need to come up with something unique that still brings some fun and levity to the end of my videos. And whether I mention it or not, after a good hike, it will always be CHEESEBURGER TIME!!! Thanks for watching. Mark

      @@mhammann57 I thought I had seen that phrase before Haha! With all do respect though, sintax's videos are just mediocre. I prefer your style. At first i felt it was heavily influenced by David Gray, and while I still think that is that case, there's no one better to emulate. Keep up the great work! I absolutely love the hiking bits with no talking... it's so peaceful and relaxing and the camera movement is smooth and I just love it

      @David Lounsberry You are correct! I have been influenced by David Gray's work, especially the still image montage at the end of his videos. I think we both need to up our game for a new opening title/intro. Speaking of DG, I just received a notification for a new video from him. Thanks for noticing my efforts to minimize the talking, and keep the image stabilized while walking. Changing from my Sony a6000 to a GoPro 7 helped immensely with the stabilization. Really appreciate your feedback and thanks for watching! Mark

      @@mhammann57 yes I just started his new video! Very exciting... by the way I have been splurging on your older videos and you have inspired me to head out west. I was born in San Antonio but my family and I left Texas when I was 4 so I have no recollection of our trip to Big Bend. After watching your video this morning I'm dying to go back there. Long trip though, I live in East Tennessee. Also my friends and I all want to go up to Baker and Johnson Lake at Big Basin NP. The still pictures of Baker Lake at the end of that video were jaw dropping.

    You cook in your jetboil a lot. Do you have a non messy cleaning method for that thing?

    • @mhammann57
      @mhammann57  3 роки тому +1

      I suppose my cleaning method varies depending on what I have cooked. One of the more difficult meals to clean is oatmeal. For that, I usually add some water and simmer with lid on to soften anything that might be cooked on. Then I use mother natures scouring pad (handful of pine needles or leaves) and wipe/scour the inside. It may take two or three handfuls to get it completely clean. Then I'll wipe down the inside with a damp paper towel and let it dry. This is all done away from camp, especially in bear country. Not sure if that qualifies as non messy but it doesn't require soap and if fires are allowed, I burn the paper so very little impact. I use the same method for my MSR skillet when I cook eggs & bacon. The teflon coating makes cleanup with pine needles/leaves easy. I also carry a small 1 X 2 inch piece of scotch pad for anything really cooked on. Hope that answers your question. The jetboil is a great piece of equipment by the way. A little bit heavier than some stoves however, boil times are very fast due to the flux ring design and this allows for less fuel consumption. Thanks for the comment and thanks for watching! Mark
