  • FAS TV is back with Season 4! On this weeks FAS TV we are visiting Crichton Royal Farm at Dumfries, one of Scotland's Rural College research farms and home to the famous Langhill dairy herd. Rearing heifers as replacements for the herd is an important part of the cycle of milk production. There have been significant changes made at Crichton over the last year in how the heifer calves are managed. The aim of these changes has been to improve health and growth performance to reduce the age at first calving, as well as utilising pasture to reduce heifer rearing costs.
Scotland’s Farm Advisory Service (FAS) is funded by the Scottish Government, providing information and resources aimed at increasing the profitability and sustainability of farms and crofts.
