Star Wars Outlaws Review - The Final Verdict

- Star Wars Outlaws does have its strengths - its surprisingly organic open world and how it encourages exploration, its fun, swashbuckling story, how effectively it captures the scoundrel fantasy - but ultimately, the game feels just a little bit too rough.
From its technical issues to its inconsistent writing, from some of its dated design decisions to the clunky game feel that pervades the entire experience, this just feels like a game that needed another year in the oven.
I'm going to be playing plenty more of Outlaws in the days and weeks ahead, being the hopeless Star Wars sicko that I am, but in the state that the game exists in right now, I'm not sure I'm going to have more fun with it than I will with that toy lightsaber that I bought.

“Just needed another year in the oven”. You could copy/paste this into the reviews for 90% of AAA game releases. Something is broken with modern game development. They all seem to bite off more than they can chew. Pretty much none of them release finished games anymore.
Something is broken: it's an insistence on shipping games based on the demands of the finance department instead of those of the art department and development department, because money is the be-all and end-all for all the companies that publish games.
This is why it's always better to wait... bugs to even graphic upgrades to even performance fixes and crashes and extra dlc and load time improvements. List goes on and on..
It's a mixture of rushing games, unrealistic expectations from the publishers and games being made extremely generic with a "little bit of everything" so it sells better. Nothing ends up finished
This game is not just unfinished in gameplay, the charachters and story is unfinished as well .... basic ubisoft, Game with nothing interesting with big ip. really worth maybe 10 to 20 dollars.. with completed edition -.-... even then would not play it.

You get Premium+, cancel when done with game, get another month when Ubi release another game you're interested, wash and repeat. That's why they went for this business model.
An open world Star Wars game like this would have blown my mind as a kid in the late 80s. Too bad they didn’t make the most out of it.
I have a long way to go before I can pass final judgment on this game, but I like it so far. It's not the theme I would have liked to see, but it's interesting so far and I am hopeful that it'll get better as I go along. Plus, it's reasonable to assume that UBISoft will fix bugs and improve things with continued feedback. Just look at how Starfield has improved since launch or Fallout 76 over the years. Don't give up on the game so quickly. It might very well become everything you hoped for in time.
Best game of the year so far for me. Reminds me so much of Watch Dogs, Hitman, Elex 2, and Witcher 3.

@@Fridgemasters no one is forcing you to buy. Indie devs have been doing a better job making AAA games than the larger companies so either way I'm not worried.
I'm literally playing this now for $15 bucks on Ubisoft Plus. Low stakes. Its not that deep. lol.
@@ComboDamageTV Are you joking, or are you really that financially illiterate? You're paying them for a full game every few months, which they generally only release a couple in a year. And of those games, generally 1:4 is worth playing, although certainly not for full price, and only several months after release when they've had a chance to finish their game. You're literally paying more for the value than most anyone else, especially in a long-term sense.

It’s the one thing putting me off. I enjoy stealth, but I hate the stress of having to repeat a whole long section if I make a mistake. I’ve given up on some games because if that.
But it will take some work and they just wanna copy poste as much they can to save any peny.
What blows my mind is that this hasn't been brought up at all in any of these preview videos. They knew it was a shit gameplay mechanic so they hid it, so did these guys in their 1,200 preview videos.
I don't know, If I mess up in a soulslike game I also immediately die. So there is obviously some tension there that people enjoy. For some boses or traps you get hit, you die and now you restart. I'd call that an instant fail. It would seem a bit like a double standard to turn around and say that instant fail in a stealth mission is automatically a no-go.
In most of the Hitman missions, If I'm caught trespassing it's BASICALLY an instantfail. Like sure I could try shooting myself out but 99% of the time, I'm just going to reload.
I feel like the important point really is: does it feel fair and are the mechanics consistent? If you die in a soulslike or in a encounter in Doom Eternal to then have to do it again, if feels... okay because hopefully the gameplay is fun AND because you know you played badly instead of "I was unlucky." So I don't know how stealth feels in Star Wars Outlaws but if the mechanics are clear and there are no surprises... then I don't actually mind insta fails, as long as there are SOME checkpoints and I don't have to redo like the last 10 minutes of progress or even watch some unskippable cutscenes etc.

Massive missed opportunity to not have a fake surrender command, so instead of instantly being booted back to the last checkpoint you instead grab the persons weapon and have one last chance to either get away or take out the enemies.

Arguably. Jedi Survivor was clunky as hell itself, had plenty of its own bugs, and wasn't exactly gorgeous (IMO). I'd only say it's better because it different in a good way: I can have significantly more fun with even a bad game where I get to play as a Jedi vs what's pretty much a standard 3rd person shooter.
I have cancelled mine and I will wait for a big sale. Games are too much nowadays anyway

I have to disagree completely on your movement criticism. I don't feel like the movement, whether it be walking or climbing or grappling, to be clunky at all. I started playing this morning and I didn't feel like there was any issue whatsoever with movement or I would certainly have noticed it.
I am honestly having a blast playing this game. As a huge star wars fan, it feels like Star wars.

With the fact that they NEVER completely fixed the performance issues of the last Jedi game for the PC, I have lost all faith in the AAA game producers when it comes to Star Wars titles. So, I will get this one on deep discount or when it is reported that it is absolutely fixed.

It is a totally different publisher and developer, but I am more cautious in general of the AAA gaming space as a result of game that expensive not even being fully fixed. This is not an attack on Ubisoft, it is just a lack of faith in all of them now because some have gone beyond putting out games as a buggy mess and fixing them to putting out buggy games and leaving them more than a little bit broken.
@@abraxis59 Oh, I totally agree with the sentiment. I think Ubisoft still patch and work on their games at least even if they are all formulaic. EA just leave games broken and move on. Especially if it’s a game where they aren’t selling you card packs.

I would personally redeem it. No idea on whether or not you will like it but getting a free code of a game that would normally cost $70 is really good - its price point does not really justify its quality. Though its probably best if you wait for patches before you download it of course.
I can’t get over how the stealth takedowns are mostly punches. Even against stormtroopers with their armor. It looks so bad 😂

You know what would have made sense for a outlaw protagonist who can solo entire bases of enemy’s with out people noticing? Sev, from Republic Commandos.
He already should have had a reason to hate the empire (He was left on Kashyyk). His ability to one shot storm troopers with his fists would have made sense (He has a knuckle blade made out of a really strong material). It would have been way more interesting if the two elite units of the sides during the Clone Wars we’re on the same team. And it could have been a semi realized sequel to republic commandos. Or this could have been a prequel to the actual sequel. And he would have heard about the destruction of Tantuss Base through his connections in the underground/ Rebel alliance. He would go looking to reunite the squad and it would have retconned Scorch‘s death in the Bad Batch finale.
Just my thoughts and ideas since the people in the seats love using old characters.
A reminder there were people flown out and wined and dined by Ubisoft.
This is essentially a stealth game. Which is good because I love stealth games.
Unfortunately, the stealth game mechanics of this game really suck. Often you will fail for no discernable reason, and sometimes you will succeed when you should not.
Creating a stealth game with janky stealth is poor game design.

Is anyone surprised that Ubisoft’s attempt is a colossal let down? Realistically, the Star Wars license almost carries no real weight with its fan base anymore. No production outlet that tries to reasonably imagine an all engrossing story that actually allows fans to feel immersed in the source material that made it so amazing. But as stated initially, it wasn’t fair to have realistic expectations when Ubisoft has only made the very same mistakes in the face of its fans. Add it to the pile of could have beens.

Kind of wack, a huge percentage of PS2 era games are absolute garbage.
Although old platformers and Gran Turismo from the era put modern attempts to shame.
PS3 & 360 era have some powerhouses.
Agreed ps1 is Def the golden age, ps2 had a small handful of goodies
I think we just have TONS of more games being released compared to PS2 era. Also early access stuff and the ability to release patches makes the number of shitty games to be released bigger but also good games. The amount of good games remains the same probably, we just got more bad ones too…
I'll say that PS3, 360, and even WII had the most impact in the game industry. Based on innovated and creative mechanics, plus a solid story and fun gameplay
Honestly, the review didn’t say the game was bad. It just seems like technical issues that will hopefully be patched. I’ll buy it on sale on Black Friday at 40 bucks. Hopefully the updates would kick in by then.

That Storm Trooper armour must be pretty rubbish if you can just punch them with your bare fists to knock them out.
Open world with borders isn’t an open world… This game wasn’t tested nearly enough for the glitches to be fixed..
I didn't have any technical issues with the game. Played just fine
So if 10 enemies see you in a firefight it's game on but if one isolated enemy sees you in a confined stealth section, it's game over? Incredible realism 😂😂

The series with Kap Kestis is the best star wars game ever made. No body wants to dogfight in space. No one wants to not be a jedi. This is an assassins creed in a galaxy far away. Which sale it will be in is the real question.
I played the game and its a solid 7/10. My only issue is that Kae's face looks a little off sometimes

I felt like it was a missed opportunity to not have the options to take on missions from the empire.

I think the game has potential.
ALSO - perhaps a way you can keep hold of weapons you pick up with a crafted sling… so you can still climb, drive etc..
But still ditch it once the ammo is spent to still give you that tension of NOT being a one woman army - and have to play SMARTER….

Could you please publicize the problem with the creators' previous game, Avatar. For over 30 days the game has been blocking users if they do not have DLC. I had 30 hours of gameplay on ps5 and I can't finish the game.

I bought this and Jedi Survivor at the same time. This is a really fun enjoyable game for me. The hatred of it seems so weird to me lol it’s not a bad game no matter what the haters say. Don’t expect a Rockstar game here because it’s not on that scale or level but it’s really good. I like it more now that I’ve adjusted the settings to remove the rhythm lock picking and have leveled up to halving my distance of being noticed by enemies and i have quickly learned to outsmart the AI so yeah i feel like anyone complaining sucks at the game 😂

Yet another Ubisoft game that excels at nothing but graphics. Speaking of graphics, I cannot for the life of me understand why they thought it was a good idea to make the VA for the protagonist ugly when she's genuinely pretty in real life.
This Star Wars game really didn’t appeal to me at all because why do I wanna play as a teenage girl with a fuzzy sidekick as a outlaw? What the game should’ve been a teenage Han Solo as a outlaw/smuggler! With a young chewy as his sidekick, both of them are doing side missions to help the rebel forces, but at the same time they’re fleeing from people they owe money to and smuggling stuff from the Empire, that would’ve been a more appealing game!
