From the very beginning the only Obsidian theme that's really worked for me is the legacy theme Pisum. I believe "legacy" implies that it is no longer being developed/supported. A pity, since it struck me as such a warm, inviting place to work in from the moment I first installed it and has never lost its appeal. Pisum simply gets out of the way and lets my mind get lost in the content. But Soft Paper is a new fave. Thanks.
Your theme Soft Paper is an amazing improvement - gorgeous and easy on the eyes - many thanks, Nick! The only thing I will have to modify is to reduce the size of the note title font; since it's so big it's hard to have more than a few readable notes on the Canvas. Could you (or anyone else) just give a hint of which number(s) I should change to reduce the size of the note title font?
I love this theme and am looking for a suitable windows typeface, will try Cambra. Also, the H2 Font Weight was set to 100 which looks odd, changed it to 800.
I've been pretty happy with the minimal theme (with the extended features) for its simplicity. Considering soft paper for when I try out the Ideaverse vault. The only concern I have is that the lack of folder structure in Ideaverse makes me too dependent on obsidian in order to access my files/connections.
@@harikrishnasuku Same, but found the solution for you. Go to Settings > Appearance > Text Font > Manage and add New York (or your serif font of choice there). If you've added any other fonts this way, make sure your serif font is at the top. Then voila, Reading Mode will render that font. (I tried doing this through the Style Settings for AnuPpucchin, but it doesn't have an option for Reading Mode.)
I use AnuPpuccin, but I find your Soft Paper styling with the colorful window and full rainbow folders to be still a bit too loud for my tastes. My styling is much more minimal, which makes it easy to transition between light and dark mode while retaining focus, but the colors are still soft so it brings me more calm. I did like your use of the New York font, though, and I think I’ll incorporate that into my style settings.
To all those windows obsidian users, 1dt theme doesn't look as colourful as MAC in windows, instead of light mode use dark mode which in windows is better suited for them. and new york font is not in windows typography

I also have the prism theme, can I download the LYT mode also in the appearance section? Dit you use a hotkey for changing the style changes? It was so fast in the video?
Yep, LYT Mode is available as a theme in Settings > Appearance. (Ironically, it's only meant to be used in dark mode.) I made "Change Theme" into a hotkey, yes. All my hotkeys are included in Ideaverse Starter Kit and Ideaverse Pro.
@@linkingyourthinking Thank you for the prompt reply. I could not find LYT mode, but changing the mode to dark mode did the trick! Keep up the good work!
Thank you for the tutorial! Is there the New York font for linux or windows? It seems to exist a few New York fonts. Which one exactly is used here? I don't have mac.
I can follow you better now that you are calming down. Personally, dark themes are much more chill than light themes. Is there some way for me to use the style setting plugin to make that change?
It would be amazing to have Style Settings options for LYT Mode. That's beyond my abilities, but if someone out there magically wanted to help, that'd be pretty cool
Nice. Thanks for this. I'm using the dark version of the theme and that required tweaking the colors a bit. But I found a good combo and really like it. About the New York font -- it is pretty sweet, but doesn't work well outside of the apple-verse. When I copied the fonts to Linux they did not render well at all (very thin). But on my system there was a font called Noto Serif and I found that works will. But how to get a shared vault to work across macOS and Linux? You can specify multiple fonts in the settings. Changing the Font Family settings for Live Preview and Reading modes to: "New York","Noto Serif" works great ... on my macOS it finds New York and uses it ... on my Linux system it doesn't find New York so it looks for Noto Serif, finds it, and uses it. Having said that, I don't think we are supposed to be using "New York" in this way. Looking at the license for that font, Apple says its use is restricted to making designs and mockups of products to be delivered on Apple devices; it is not licensed for general use. That said, you can probably get away with it for personal use, but there are plenty of quite good serif fonts out there that you can use instead. So I'll be switching to a different serif font on macOS, real soon now.

Weird, thanks for noting that. I wonder what's causing that. It's almost like the rainbow settings are canceling each other out or something. Maybe others will know more...
Thanks for sharing this! It looks very interesting. Unfortunately I have an issue with the settings. I can’t save the code copied from Google Drive, the error message is referred to a missing comma or curly bracket. I checked it and it’s complete. Any suggestions from anyone?
I installed your mods to AnuPpuccin and have been finding myself using it frequently. 🙂I appreciate the work you put into the mods and the video. I was wondering if you could help me make 3 changes to the light theme. I would like to make the milky overlay less, that is, more transparent. I'd also like to make the note text font a bit darker. Both of these would help my old eyes see things better. Is there a way to make these changes?
@@linkingyourthinking One user wrote: The reason is that Obsidian loads as you scroll. Once you scroll pass an initial length, the element will be removed. Say you have 100 folders and only folders within the range of 20 is loaded. So when you scroll to folder #21, folder #1 will be removed from UI, and the 1st index (color Red) will now be assigned to folder #2 (before it is color Orange because it has index 2). - so I think until now just collapse unneeded folders while scrolling to avoid the color change :)
I'm relatively new to Obsidian. I watched Nick Milo's beginners play list - Excellent. Installed the Anuppucin theme. Its great. Just one major problem, now my vertical SCROLL BAR is missing. (I'm on a PC, and can still scroll using the arrow keys, but thats a pain). Can anyone suggest how to get it back, WITHOUT having to uninstall this beautiful theme.
I think I have your solution. Go to...Settings » Style Settings » AnuPpuccin » Show/Hide Ul Elements » Hide Scrollbars ... It's currently toggled on, so try toggling it off.
On Windows it is possible to install the font by opening the Apple Installer package in 7zip and then drilling down the actual font files (there are a whole bunch of them), extracting them, then selecting all fonts and right-clicking and "Install" or "Install for all users". However, the font does not look the same for me as it does on Nick's screen. Regular text appears much thinner and not comfortably readable, even when zoomed in. The font possibly needs different configuration on Windows, or as @harikrishnasuku has said, maybe a different font recommendation for Windows.
@@linkingyourthinking Regarding the font readability on Windows, I think I have solved that. If you change the font in Style Settings to "New York Small", or "New York Medium" (depending on preference) rather than "New York", then it looks much more like your setup Nick. This doesn't solve the switch back to default on Reading Mode though.
I love this theme. I have followed the instructions and managed to get everything installed. The only thing that bugs me is that the folder colors repeat, like the red one is twice and then the teal one three times before another color is used. Is there any way to change this? So that each color is used only once before it starts repeating?
Is there a way to make it stop changing the colors of the left menu when you scroll through your folders? It is extremely distracting and no idea what the point of it even is.
Does anyone have font recommendations for Linux? I use Zorin, a distro based on Ubuntu. Can't install New York, so I'm looking for substitutes or tips.

I have been watching your videos for a few months now. Let me tell you in the two ways I know how, to be concise and not to bore you with a speech (although it may have been necessary). you are very good at explaining and the presentations you make are highly recommended, I wish I knew English in the most fluent way to understand at first the Obsiadian.md subject you deal with!!!!!
I was already running anupuccin, and added this, which looks nicer, except.... I already had Rainbow folders working and that has somehow disappeared.
Not sure. I don't think others have had that problem as of yet
The font does not exist for windows 11 sadly, is there a similar replacement that I can use?
In the comments, we've figured out your best options are Times, Cambria, or Times New Roman
Installed it. Love it! But my list of files is not showing the rainbow colours :(
No rainbow folders? Try restarting Obsidian. Also, you do have folders right? The files won't be rainbow-colored.
@@linkingyourthinking I restarted but no luck. Yes I do have folders.
When I'm scrolling the color is changing in the menu bar on the Soft Paper Theme. Has anybody a fix for this?
Yeah, I've notice that Rainbow Folders acts strangely when scrolling through long vertical lists. I'm not aware of a fix
@@linkingyourthinking Issue sorted. Your solution fixed the problem. Many thanks.
@@linkingyourthinking Settings » Community Plugins » Style Settings ... Thank you for theme!
@@blynes1976 Hey could you please check if the applied font works in reading mode? When I toggle reading mode from editing mode the old font appears.
@@harikrishnasuku Same happens for me, switches back to the default font when you go into reading mode.
@@blynes1976 Hmm, let me see if that's fixable on my end...
Would Cambria be a decent alternative to recommend?
@@linkingyourthinking Regarding the font readability on Windows, I think I have solved that. If you change the font in Style Settings to "New York Small", or "New York Medium" (depending on preference) rather than "New York", then it looks much more like your setup Nick. This doesn't solve the switch back to default on Reading Mode though.
I love this theme. I have followed the instructions and managed to get everything installed. The only thing that bugs me is that the folder colors repeat, like the red one is twice and then the teal one three times before another color is used. Is there any way to change this? So that each color is used only once before it starts repeating?
How did you change from light mode to dark mode with shortcut? For the theme change I believe you used Theme Picker is that right?
In terms of typobraphy, serif typefaces are more readable. People should have opinions about what they like, but that's the case.
Thanks for sharing. Some serifs I wonder about that, but on the whole, I'm sure serif beat san serifs on the technical aspects of readability
Thanks!!!!!!
hey guys! is there any way for me to install the New York font in my windows pc? thanks for the help!
I think Times New Roman is the consensus alternative
How can I add the New York font to my windows?
In the comments, the consensus is to use a different font like Times New Roman
Is there a way to install the New York font on the phone too?
What kind of sans serif font do you use for Obsidian (menus left and right)?
I've tried countless and settled on Open Sans
@@linkingyourthinking Thank you 👍The font is really very clean and beautiful.
@@AvniBilgin Glad you have good taste ;)
Is there a way to make it stop changing the colors of the left menu when you scroll through your folders? It is extremely distracting and no idea what the point of it even is.
I agree, but I don't think there is a way just yet
Does anyone have font recommendations for Linux? I use Zorin, a distro based on Ubuntu.
Can't install New York, so I'm looking for substitutes or tips.
hello This font is not working on windows, is it ?
In the comments, we've figured out your best options are Times, Cambria, or Times New Roman
😍😍😍😍
🙌
Anyone knows where to download the font. Im a windows user :)
Check the other comments, but the best answer is to use Times New Roman
@@linkingyourthinking Thx :)
how do i do this for windows?
Belíssimo tema
HI. Quiero leerte en mi idioma, español. Considera, por favor, agregar subtitulos en múltiples idiomas. Abrazos desde 🇨🇴 Colombia
I'll try to learn how and see how much work it is, but would love to be able to offer that.
@@linkingyourthinking Con herramientas de inteligencia artificial no creo que implique mucho trabajo. Active las campanas, quedo atento a todo lo que usted comparta sobre Obsidian.
All was good until it became mac-centric.
use Times New Roman and you're fine
@@linkingyourthinking That'll probably take a deep dive for Linux.
@@linkingyourthinking Found the font-change settings, it's all warm and wonderful here now with Berkshire Swash and rainbow folders.
i didnt like that the folder had the same colors repeaded for the first two and then the last 4 of mine so i played around with the colores and got the darkmode to look better
