- This is recording from the dress rehearsal preceding the "Vánoční koncert ze Senátu" (Christmas concert) that QUATTRO Chamber Orchestra gave on 15th December 2009. You are present in the Main Hall of the Wallenstein Palace (Hlavní sál Valdštejnského paláce) at The Lesser Quarter of Prague (Malá Strana). This palace is the seat of the Czech Senate, the upper chamber of the Czech Parliament.
QUATTRO Orchestra played that evening R. Binge, J. Suk - Serenade in E flat major, A. Vivaldi - Sinfonia in G, J. Pachelbel - Canon, W.A.Mozart - Church Sonata, S. Bodorová - Canzonetta d´amore for clarinet and strings and Christmas carols in S. Bodorová adaptation. The soloists of the concert were Zdeněk Plech - bass, Irvin Venyš - clarinet, Pavla Franců - violin and Gabriela Filippi - recitation. Conductor Marek Štilec.
Concert was live recorded by the Czech TV - to be broadcasted on 2nd January 2010 as a festive New Year program (22:35).
I first heard this in the late 50's as a 4 year old boy and fell in love with it. On hearing it again takes me back to playing with my toys on the living room floor.

The beauty playing the main violin totally enchants me.. The concentration in her eyes, 'seeing' every note in her mind. .Unpretentious and supremely talented.. She is beautiful and this whole rendition is beautiful. ..It captivates me totally. Absolutely delightful. . Every time I hear this piece it reminds me of the sense of hope and optimism we had in 1952, and I hope it brings the same feeling to others. The beautiful soloist here even looks rather like our Queen did then! Ronnie Binge wrote some delightful pieces; he would have been amazed to know he is being played today in Prague. This wonderful piece has rightly gained international recognition. The tempo here is a little too fast, as others have pointed out.Nevertheless, it is great to see the performers enjoying themselves.

Certainly, one of the "happiest/uplifting" melodies I've ever heard... In terms of "emotionally-moving music", it is up there with Verdi's "Va pensiero" and Puccini's "Nessun Dorma", America's "Star spangled banner", Korea's "Arirang", etc... Brilliant!
