      I have a bachelors degree in physics, currently doing a masters in materials engineering! I actually consider sewing quite a mathematical thing - it's just putting curves together hsha

    • @BothHands1
      @BothHands1 3 роки тому +40

      Enchanterium that's awesome!! my bachelor's is in neuroscience, and i'm working on a master's in neuro, but with a focus specifically on broca's area and wernicke's area of the neocortex -- psycholinguistics.
      but yeah, everything comes down to math at some point, even sewing. it's the universal language of our natural world.

    • @kouusa
      @kouusa 3 роки тому +15

      @@BothHands1 I'm a fan as soon as you said neuroscience. But psycholinguistics? Perfect! (I've been looking up both areas as migraines do a number on my ability to speak. Even without one, speaking and definitely trying to understand what the heck people are saying can be...weird.) Good luck in your studies!

    • @BothHands1
      @BothHands1 3 роки тому +11

      kouusa
      thank you so much! yeah, migraines can happen in quite a few different parts of the neocortex. when i get them i usually go mostly blind for the first hour before the actual headache part starts. the focal point of my eyes becomes a searing bright light, even with my eyes closed, so all i have is peripheral vision, and no matter what prescription glasses a person uses, reading out of your peripheral vision is basically impossible.
      but yeah, in the country i was born, everyone is required to be bilingual, and at least 2 languages are taught from preschool all the way through university. in the part i grew up in the two languages at my schools were english and afrikaans, though it varies by region. but knowing afrikaans lets me speak with a dutch person, even though some context is lost along the way. and then i did a minor in japanese so i could study in japan, and eventually took a break from uni to teach english so I could get a new visa to stay longer. and just learning language has been so fun for me that i decided my specialization before i went to the usa (i did middle school through uni here). but since my mom's family is afrikaans, it still stayed as a language in our house when i moved here. anyway, that was an unnecessarily long story, but i guess what i was trying to get at is how fascinating it is how the brain understands language, and depending on the age you learn them, how those languages are compartnentalized in the brain. english and afrikaans almost feel like the same language to me, but i interpret japanese very much through english and afrikaans. it's so fascinating, like english has different tenses for words, afrikaans just feels like more tenses of the same words, just arranged a bit differently. but japanese truly feels like a different language, even though i reached the point where i can speak and understand casual japanese without translating it first in my head, more difficult japanese still goes through translation.
      and there are also all sorts of weird problems that can go wrong with these parts of the brain, like when after head trauma, a person may be able to read but not understand the words when spoken. but can still speak the language fine. or when the connections between wernicke's and broca's areas are damaged, a person may be able to understand everything a person says to them, and they can speak and write perfectly, but they can't relate the two. so someone asks you how your day was, you can understand what they asked, but that signal doesn't get to the speech center of the brain, so you can talk to them, just not about the topics you were asked about, unless it's by coincidence. language is so incredibly strange in how disconnected it is in the brain, and how it functions. but there are some people, like 20% of left handed people, and about 1% of right handed people, who have half of each language center on each side of the brain. so a person like that may be able to recover from what would be irreversible damage to one of these areas, by having the half in the other side of the brain pick up the slack. usually the language centers are all in the left hemisphere.
      i could keep gushing for hours cuse it's so interesting, but i'm gonna have to stop here for your sake 😅😅😅

    God this doll is GORGEOUS. The crystals, the hair, the tail. Just wow. Even the lack of 'human features' like the nose and lips, it adds so much to this doll in terms of making her feel more extraterrestrial and less human. Honestly a genius idea and it adds so much to making her such a unique doll.
    Gushing aside, one of my favourite alien characters of all time has to be garrus vakarian from the mass effect series. And 90% of the species from that series tbh.

  • @AragornSidePiece
    @AragornSidePiece 3 роки тому +4

    I LOVE how you go all out for your projects and put a lot of thought into their design and backstory. The decision to actually grow crystals on and forgo the general human face to a new sleek alien mold was absolutely a GENIUS design move, and the blue and orange contrast has always been a favorite of mine. The rocketship design with the 3D printer I also enjoyed watching, especially the theme of crystals as the exhaust was a brilliant move, and the actual though into naming it PRIDE an acronym that made sense and was relevant was beautiful, as well as the use of that alphabet made me smile. overall, keep up the good work you two!

    That was really cool, I love that you guys also make the accessories yourself (I mean the ship!) that's amazing. And the crystal and science behind it all is really informative.

    I'm love this video so much already and I've only just watched the intro ^_^ You ladies clearly had so much fun with this project. I love the use of the crystals on the doll that is so unique. You used so much creativity making this doll and she is lovely!

    Gotta be honest, I didn't know if I'd like it in the beginning but you really surprised me with how amazing this turned out. The hair especially looks so fantastic. I think the exclusion of the ears, nose, and mouth really brings attention to how great you are at painting eyes.
