I have existential OCD involving death. When my wife and kids were at the parks a couple of weeks ago and wanted to ride haunted mansion, guess what I did…… I didn’t ride it. If you know your triggers, don’t jump on a ride or experience and expect to be catered.

Haunted Mansion is literally a ride about deaths and ghosts, why are people getting so sensitive when it's a haunted house ride for crying out loud. Plus the hanging corpse is literally part of the story of the attraction.

You don't see this in other parts of the world. We are all adults. If someone doesn't like a movie, book, attraction, whatever the case may be, don't attend, see, or read it. Many people today have the attitudes of toddlers or coddlers.
Mystic manor literally exists because of cultural reasons. Similar to that current day culture is very different to when it opened, especially since Disney has a “for kids” image, telling people to indirectly KYS is definitely not something they would want to deal with.
That makes it a different ride. That's such a false equivalency.

It's literally called the HAUNTED MANSION why are people so damn sensitive. the ride is basically a hybrid ride from 2 legendary imagineers that wanted it to be scary and fun. The ride has a bride that kills all her rich husbands with an axe. Why doesn't nobody complain about her? Or how about madam Leota she does seance and back story has voodoo, which a reminder people, this is why the shadow man wasn't added in Tiana's bayou adventure. why isn't she being replaced? at this point just call it the lonely mansion or ghost retirement mansion.
The stretching room is one of the most iconic parts of the ride and they want to change it. All I know is the HM fans are EXTREMELY vocal if they don't like it they will say something about it.
Because people in this crazy generation get offended by every little thing, and they feel lentitled that Disney should do away with it and ruin it for the rest of us
Small correction; Leota’s official backstory has nothing to do with Vodou, she was either: a Romani medium who lived in New Orleans (Disneyland + most likely to be canon) or a witch who lived in Salem during the witch trials (WDW). Neither backstory given implies that she practiced the religion, her only ties to it being where she lived depending on the backstory you chose to go with.
Give it time, eventually those things will be patched out too. Then Disney will start losing guests one by one and they'll scream "COME BACK" and Universal Studios guests will go "Why?"

The position needs to be entirely removed permanently. Jobs like that inevitably result in over corrections because they HAVE to justify their existence. The boss is NOT going to pay you if you spent an entire year telling him, "damn you guys are amazing! Not a single thing offensive in sight!"

The rabid censorship crowd has been demanding all references to alcohol be removed from pirates for years. They have also been trying to force Disney to change the Carlos the Mayor scene with him in the well.

Yet Universal will have big crowds for their Halloween 'mazes' AND they're building a permanent 'horror' attraction in Vegas AND they're gonna have a 'Horror' land in their new park...seems Universal ain't worried 'bout a few 'upset' people.

Disney continues to just get worse and worse, removing classic attractions, poor re theming, removing classic elements on various rides,etc. next will be the removal of the animatronics shooting or holding guns on Pirates of the Caribbean.

Just because I was scared of the stretching room as a kid but got over my fear sooner doesn’t mean there should be a change! Keep it the way it is!
What people don’t understand is that Disney has an entire department dedicated to making these kinds of changes. The more obvious changes, Pirates, Jungle Cruise, Splash Mountain, etc., have already been made, so now they’re reaching.

OLC owns Tokyo Disney, not TWDC which helps. There was a rumor that TWDC was willing to pay them to get rid of Splash & change it to Tiana's. OLC turned it down

To test the waters the OLC removed Zip A Dee Do Dah from the park entrance music loop of Tokyo Disneyland. Save Splash Mountain movement here never got off the ground. But what is society in Japan. Organization, discipline, strict. After organized massive outcry, OLC put it back. Zip A Dee Do Dah and Everybody’s Got a Laughing Place is in the park entrance music loop. Disney did go to them three more times. OLC has refused. Disney however controls merch and character part. There is no merch and no Br’er meet and greets. The little store after the ride. Doesn’t sell much. I’ve been twice now summer of 2023 and just recently. When I went 2023 there were Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde plushes. This year, bunny ear head bands. Those are some ways they get around it. But the Japanese don’t care. Splash Mountain is popular. When I went I went with a Splash Mountain Br’er Rabbit Plush vintage I ordered on eBay. The cast members fawned over it. I got positive reaction from guests. It’s not just “a ride on a hot day there” - foxes and rabbits are significant in their folklore as well. Especially foxes - Kitsune - which are believed to be shape shifting spirits that can be good or bad tricksters. So when translated in Japanese in the bilingual ride… the Uncle Remus tale adaptation Song of the South of Usagidon (Br’er Rabbit) using clever tricks to escape a bad Kitsune (Br’er Fox, Kitsunedon) fits within their culture. No wonder the Oriental Land Company saw it and said “we want that”
When representatives visited the stateside parks to scout attractions. Besides a great log flume there was connection to Japanese folklore and culture. Splash Mountain in Tokyo is not going anywhere any time soon. The Japanese are smart businessmen. And Oriental Land Company knows if they change Splash Mountain they will have outcry there that will make Save Splash Mountain look like Child’s Play. Disney can try all they want but OLC isn’t going to change anything. Not to mention they still have original County Bears, have just brought back seasonal shows, never changed Pirated of the Caribbean Auction, Or Jungle Cruise scenes.

I honestly prefer having the animatronic hitchhiking ghosts they just seem more realistic.

you have Constance Hatchaway in the attic scene, then there's the portrait in the stretching room where the old lady is sitting on top of the tombstone that's has a little bust at the bottom of it with a little axe in its head and then there's the two ghosts in the ballroom who at shoot at each other

The duel paintings? Back in that time, projectiles were basically small lead pinballs. Really painful way to die, it tears bodies apart.

Universal Studios moving towards the darker theming with Dark Universe, because the Universal folks trusts their quests, to know what’s real, and what is not real. The Disney folks seem to want to get as close to PG theming, as possible, because they think their guests are so immature, they are unable to handle anything. Sadly, Epic Universe is going to put Disney World to shame.
Removing the hanging ghost does not make sense. Was always a engineering marvel how they made that happen.

Every time they make these sensitivity changes it always makes the attraction worse. Why are we reading into all this? Skip the ride or just enjoy the ride for what it is.
This is bullshit! The Haunted Mansion is supposed to be creepy and by removing the hanging corpse, it reduces the scare factor. If people are sensitive to this then can’t they just skip the ride? God this sucks

It’s a rumor. Not confirmed by Disney. None of the changes discussed here are confirmed as happening. If they didn’t remove it during the extended sixteen month closure, they won’t remove it now.

The worst part of the Haunted Mansion updates are digital hitchhiking ghosts. Animatronics are so much better and practical. Screens are low budget ✋🏽

Hope they keep the hanging skeleton in the streching room. It’s a great effect and sets the tone for the Haunted House.
I would assume that a person who would be bothered by death wouldn't go on an attraction called The Haunted Mansion or anything similar. Like, I can understand why someone might be sensitive to the macabre, but they're also not the ones going on the ride, right? Why change it when you have a greater number of people who are not bothered?

let me gues they are taking my fave part out of the ride, when he says THERES ALWAYS MY WAY OUT. i have had alot of issues with self harm suicide and suicidal idealization but when i went in 2018 (near the hieght of my depression ) i would jokenly says I'VE BEEN TRYING when he says theres always my way out and i would always hear some one in the room laugh
Just the title of this video alone pissed me off before I even watched it to find out what it was about. So glad I'm 50 and lived through the glory days of Disney theme parks. RIP Disneyland and WDW. Kiss my a$$ PC, woke bulls#!+.

As someone who has had lifelong su!cidal thoughts, I found it badass. If I’m in a particularly bad phase I avoid it, we aren’t children. And if they are, that should be on the parents. Also as a kid that was chronically scared, I think it’s good to scare kids. You learn to process your emotions in a safe place
The outside Tiana's Bayou Adventure looks a Hell of a lot better in that poster than it does in real life.
One thing is for sure: anyone who was an A-hole towards Splash fans for being upset about its removal and replacement, I really don’t want to hear it from you about this.
As it is, my favorite ride is gone so any other changes they make are just “whatever” at this point. Can’t get any worse for me.
There is a sensitivity team at Disney whose job is to find and remove anything that can be offensive is any way. If they find nothing they have no job. They have to continue to find nuanced ways to see offense. Until that team is dissolved, we will see changes to classic attractions like Haunted Mansion’s stretch room.

Or, hear me out, just don’t look up if suicide is triggering to you?? I didn’t even know he was up there until I was an adult and someone told me about it.
As someone who’s dealt with suicidal thoughts for the majority of my life, I’ve always loved the line, “how do you escape a room with no windows and no doors? There’s always my way.” And then showing the hanging corpse as his way out because it felt so validating and cathartic, as that’s how I feel about life and seeing suicide as the only way out sometimes and it comforted me because of that.
Also, Walt Disney struggled with suicidal thoughts himself. I think that line could’ve been inspired from his own feelings.

Theres maybe like 3-4 bands that actually fill enough of the theater where a dining plan would help,theres three shows nightly with the furst one being the busiest,even if the first one is busy and you cant get a great seat free if you go to the later shows its usually way less busy.
The cutbacks on the parades and live entertainment make sense because the performers were unionized under Actor’s Equity Association. Disney probably doesn’t want to pay the exorbitant extra costs now added to all the performers for the parades and shows during non-peak periods
I literally have tried offing myself in the past and honestly it should stay in because suicide is a very real thing that some people unfortunately go through and for the ride I don’t think “oh that’s too dark for a ride” I think “what did he go through to do that?” It’s a part of the story and should stay a part of the story.

With the increased pricing and babyproofing of literally every ride, it's becomimg clear Disney caters to one demographic exclusively: family influencers who can afford a house in California.

Disney needs a new person in charge, this is ridiculous, if everything gets changed because of ‘sensitivity’ it’s going to be ‘the most boring place on earth’
If you don’t like something then don’t ride, go, see it etc etc I don’t like things that are very dark and not nice so I won’t go to Universals HHN because I won’t be able to handle it. Disney is really going downhill now. I’m going back to WDW in December but not been since 2017 and so much has changed in a bad way, including them changing the welcome speech for the fireworks because ‘ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls’ isn’t inclusive enough, like seriously people getting offended over a saying that’s been said for probably hundreds of years (not just in Disney) so Disney removes it 🙄
I don't think they should remove the hanging corpse; however, if they do, PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD DO NOT KEEP THE TARP UP AND USE PROJECTIONS. During the Haunted Mansion Holiday, that tarp and projection is one of the most incongruous elements in the ride. It totally pulls me out of it. Better for them to do a pepper's ghost creepy face looking down on everyone or something. And I actually hate the updated hitchhiking ghosts at Walt Disney World. It looks soooo fake compared to the pepper's ghost effect. So this is disappointing.
Noticed, if there is no way out. The body hangs from the rafters AND THERE ARE WINDOWS THERE! He could have just went out the windows. Use the rope to climb down or ask for help.

Don’t know why they are scaling back entertainment. Plenty of people packing in DCA these days. They really should put something in their theater. It is ridiculous it just sits there empty. Literally my biggest criticism of the company.

This is my favorite ride anywhere. I was 6 when I first went on Haunted Mansion in Disneyland and have ridden it dozens and dozens of times. I'm really over this sudden pearl clutching and I am one of those rainbow people and Native. Are customers behind this or is this some executive's disrespect of classic Disney? Nothing needs to be changed, they could put something in the cue and those that don't want to go on the ride can exit or they can use it as an opportunity to educate. When I took my kiddo to Disney for her first time when she was eight and none of the rides caused any issues for me or my kid.
Exactly. They could put a sign out front that says something about a character having committed suicide via hanging, however, it is not a graphic depiction since the hanged person is seen from a distance & offer a "Guest's discretion is advised." type of warning. They do not need to take it out entirely. HM is one of my favorite attractions as well.
Can Disney's upper management stop being so petty. I want to be entertained. This is why I visit the parks. I'm not a shopper but might be willing to spend more money if I don't have to carry my packages all over the park all day (hint, hint).
Give me decent size parades, characters, and street performers to interact with. E ticket attractions are fun but costly and involve construction. Hidden gems are what make vacations memorable. Long queues, 3am wake-up calls for ADRs, add-on costs, and 7am FP selections are what make guests unhappy before they even step in the park.
Focus on what matters upper management. That is what you get paid the big bucks for.
Personally I don’t want it removed, but I do have a close friend that’s significant other was unalived in that matter therefore making it a nope for her, I say leave it and post a warning outside,
The Parks are the only facet of the Disney empire that continually makes money. They are actively funding loss leaders like the Disney +. Instead of offering a "magical" experience in the parks, they are cutting back everywhere, and it's obvious. Removing live shows. Cutting back on general maintenance. Changing the menus to remove favourites and cut back on quality. Making guests pay for Lightning Lane, a service that used to be called "Fast Pass" and was free. Instead of spending $180 million on a, quite frankly, dire Star Wars show, they should be keeping up standards in the Parks.
I stopped going in 2022 because of all the broken animatronics and 4 rides broke down for most of the day. Comments usually confirm that it’s still bad at both parks now. 😢

I was born in the early 70s, everything i seen at Disney, they are changing for dumb reasons. Like all of the jokes they said in the Jungle cruise, with the natives, and everything else that was on there. Mainly Disney does not the older generations to go the the park anymore. In other words I'm not offended by the way they made the rides.
I mean. You "die" riding the Haunted Mansion. That's not triggering? They would have to change the whole ride story/concept.

If I was in the meeting to discuss the possibility of removing it I wouldn't be able to not laugh at how seriously they're taking it. What a joke. Don't they have better stuff to discuss? Maybe worry about adding new things instead of changing things people like. It's just so tiring keeping up with Disney's BS... TBH I can't wait to take a nice long break from Disney once Epic opens. I hope Universal crushes them next y ear and they finally realize they need to get their priorities in order.
