    Great job Cliff. I sold my sea eagle 393 and it’s nice that your videos are not solely focused on selling a brand. I also really Appreciate you introducing the small business owner as well. On or next trip thru Texas we will try to time it to explore that river and use his services. Thank you again!

      1. The foot pegs jump out of position too easily and a pain to shift around frequently and get them back where you want.
      2. I have to clean, dry fold and place it back in the bag after every use. (I don’t have a pickup). All my friends are loaded and having lunch while I’m still cleaning , deflating etc.
      3. I do not like how it handles with out the skeg . We tend to go places that have beavers etc and many times weeds. The skeg will catch 10-20 lbs of weeds that you can’t get off easily without exiting the boat.
      4. After purchasing I find out directly from the company that you can not store these in hot places. Instead they recommend at room temperature. They simply take up too much room to store a couple of these in a closet.
      These are probably the best inflatables currently on the market but they miss the mark for our use. I’m looking at going with Eddyline.

      @@Joe-xq1nt I love my Razorlite 393. It's my 2nd favorite kayak after my Sea Eagle Paddleski 435ps (world's most versatile kayak,/hybrid motorboat/sailboat. now discontinued).
      1. I don't use the foot pegs. Instead, I place my feet on the edges of the molded foot peg holders. This works really well for me, but may depend on the size of your feet and length. Did you have this version, or the older version with the PVC pipe foot peg? You could have also added one of those if you preferred.
      2. The Razorlite is probably the fastest inflatable to manually inflate. I can do it in 3 mins and 20 seconds. But I totally agree on the tear down part. It is time consuming, but that is the nature of an inflatable. I place mine on a tarp to have a clean surface to pack them up. Usually it is bare minimal time cleaning for me. Drying is the part that is time consuming for me. As I also don't have a truck and have asthma, I have to pack a dry boat in the original bag. It does take time, but I prefer it to having to put a hard shell on the roof. Also keep in mind, you can leave an inflatable in the trunk and it's ready to use the next time. Your friends have to load up their kayaks on the roof before each use, and they have to put them away when they get home. The total time adds up, but it is true you have to spend a lot longer at the launch to pack an inflatable.I also love that I don't have to plan ahead to go kayaking, but it is spontaneous when I pass a body of water that looks interesting I'm not expecting to see. Not possible for your friends. I've looked into folding kayak as an alternative as something to have for those days I don't have much time, but after much research I'm not sure I think they are a good idea. For one thing, I think they are a lot less safe as I've heard far too many stories of them unexpectedly filling with water due to a strap or buckle issue, and the inability to paddle after this happens, and inability to re-enter them from the water if they flipped. Also unsure they will pack up dry much faster. The Razorlite already inflates very quickly.
      3. Both myself and Kayak Cliff have commented on how amazingly well the Razorlite handles without the skeg installed. I've only used mine 2 or 3 times simply because, it's rarely needed. I love the ability to skim over rocks and really hug the shoreline. But this would depend on the conditions and location your kayaking. If your going for 10+ miles or it's really windy, the skeg would make a difference. But on a normal day for me leaving the skeg off is no issue.
      4. I agree with you there. Fortunately, I'm not in a hot area. But your alternative would be to store a hard shell outside? For people that live on the water, I would agree a hard shell you could leave in the yard ready to go while with an inflatable it probably won't be a good idea. I have so many inflatables, instead of a closet I have a "boat room". I cover them to keep the sunlight off them.
      There are pros & cons of an inflatable vs a hard shell, but for my needs an inflatable is much better.

      N8goulet.. mine was the newer version with foot rests. Bought it used, took it out all summer and sold it. If an inflatable is your thing I expect sea eagles upper end are some of the best. I was less and less impressed Every time I used it., But that’s me.
      If you want a 393 keep an eye on Craigslist and FB marketplace. Recently saw a 393 along with a 330 with paddles etc for $600 or best offer for both. Another 393 in Missouri I think for $100. Said it has 2 holes that need repair. I didn’t look beyond that.
      I think the broken straw for me was after having it on a small lake for a couple days with no fresh water to rinse. I wiped it down folded it up and stuck it back of my jeep. My jeep stunk like dead fish for 3 days.

    • @n8goulet
      @n8goulet Рік тому

      @@Joe-xq1nt As recommended by Sea Eagle, I keep a spray bottle of Simple Green with me to clean my kayaks as needed. I also bring plenty of water, and except on the hottest days I have extra water I could rinse with from water bottles if I needed it. But since I place my inflatables on a clean tarp when I deflate and pack them, they usually are fairly clean at most locations I've used them. A couple places I did have to clean a lot harder (usually rivers), but it's been rare. And if the water is that dirty, probably not the best places to take inflatables.
      I've been following the Razorlite model since it first came out, and I have to say, I have seen very few of them that failed or needed to be patched. There is some learning on how to avoid damaging inflatables. 1. Avoid gravel like COVID. The Razorlite is fast and be careful landing it. I've learned to slow down to a crawl before landing. Don't be afraid to get your feet wet. Many launches could damage them if your not careful, so instead, get out slightly before the launch and just get your feet wet.
      If you research how to care for quality inflatables, they will stay clean and last a long time. My original 435ps is from 2009. I've used it between 450-500 times deflating and packing after every use. It's never been patched, and people tell me it still looks like new. I loved it so much when it was discontinued, I bought a spare made in 2019. I also have the newer 437ps model too.
      In fast, all of my 7 Sea Eagles are in good condition except one I bought used cheap that was not properly cleaned after salt water use. The other 5 are all over 10 years old, and have held up well. Even the stained one works fine, just not as pretty due to lack of the proper care by the original owner.
      The competition to inflatables are the folding kayaks from ORU & Tucktec. I've followed them carefully too, and people have reported all kinds of problems with them.

    Another great video. I didn't know you were in TX (so am I). About to do my first kayaking on Caddo Lake this weekend (hopefully; expecting some rain this week). I noticed your GoPro mounted on what looks like a Pelican case and just sitting in front of you. I watched your other video where you glued the mount to the bottom of the kayak. I think I like the option of putting it on some type of movable object, rather than gluing a mount to an inflatable. Great work!

    • @KayakCliff
      @KayakCliff  Рік тому +1

      Hi Reginald - That black pelican box that I mounted my GoPro to in that video was because I had not yet mounted in my glued in Scotty mount yet.
      The problem with the movable pelican box, is that it shakes when you paddle and video quality can be diminished. I much prefer the glued in mounts
      and am working on having them on all my boats. Bottom line, you need to find out what works best for YOU! What works for one, may not be the best
      option for another . . . Thanks for watching and commenting and safe adventuring out there!

    Thanks again Cliff for another entertaining video. Still struggling with a decision to go with a Sea Eagle FastTrack or Razorlite, or foldable kayak for Class II rivers mainly to take in my RV. Mainly day trips with occasional multi-day trips and some lake paddling. Your thoughts would be welcome!

      @KayakCliff  Рік тому

      Hi 👋 Gil - please forgive me for responding so late. This comment must’ve slipped by me somehow… The FastTrack would perform better if you are doing class 2 rapids very often. Class two would be the maximum for that boat. Depending on your paddling skills the razor light might work as well, but doing class two rapids would get a little hairy. Have you considered the Explorer 380 X? That is a great, do everything boat, especially if you are mainly doing white water.

I was wondering what you're using under your seat to elevate the position ? That's the only issue I find with the Explorer series from Sea Eagle the sitting position for myself is too low because of the LARGE TUBES. Do you have a link to a product that might solve this issue? Thanks for all your hard work.

    Hey Cliff, I’ve just come across your channel and have watched a bunch of videos, they’re awesome.
    Here’s the deal, I want to pick up the sea eagle explorer, but I can’t decide between the 300 or the 380. I want to pick up a boat primarily for single white water paddling, but I do want to carry gear and the bonus of carrying a second passenger would be useful. If you could only afford one boat out of the two would you say it’s worth buying the longer boat even if you’ll generally be using it solo?
    You may never see this message as it’s an old video, so if anyone else has a steer I’d appreciate it! Thanks!

      Hi 👋 there! Thanks for watching and watching my video(s)! I would DEFINITELY go with the Explorer 380X. It is very manageable to paddle
      by yourself, plus it will track better for you with it’s added length. The Plus, is you have extra room for another passenger or any weekend camping
      gear you may have without being concerned about being over loaded with weight. I really like the Explorer 380X as a do everything kayak. The 300X is awesome for surfing at the beach, or straight whitewater. Paddling the 300X solo is slower than the 380X. Below, I’m putting a link to my full review
      on the Explorer line of kayaks, plus my affiliate website links for the Sea Eagle website. Take care, let me know if you have any other questions!

    Hello Cliff. I've been really enjoying your videos, and your beautiful locations. I was wondering have you reviewed the 420x. I"m undecided between the explorer and the Fast Track I like the straight tracking features that you speak about but I want the stability of the 420X and the ability to go in the surf with it. Also my wife and I will be using it tandem most of the time. I'm upgrading from a SE370. would like your opinion/suggestion

    • @KayakCliff
      @KayakCliff  Рік тому +1

      Hi 👋 merobaro! - Thanks for watching and commenting! I have not used a 420X, but I do have the 300 and the 380X, so the 420x is just an extension
      of those awesome boats. The Explorer is basically your do everything boat! It is like a mountain bike is to a road bicycle or a Jeep Wrangler is to a Mustang!
      It is not going to be the fastest, but it will get you there in comfort with plenty of stability due to it’s large pontoons. In light of the fact that you have been
      paddling the SE370, you will LOVE the feel of the Explorer. If speed is a concern of yours, the FastTrack will get you about 3/4 - 1 mph more speed, while
      still delivering excellent stability. I hope that helps, let me know if you have any other questions. Below are links to products and other adventure videos

This Brazos river day trip looks awesome and we will definitely give it a try in 2023. We currently have 2 Eddy Line kayaks that have been great. Light and easy to maneuver. Have two questions. Do you have a short list of recommended day trip locations we should try? These could be in Texas or other states that provide an enjoyable paddle? Occasional mild rapids are ok but not looking for an aggressive adventure. Also we are looking for a kayak that would accommodate an 80 lbs lab that we would like to take on occasions. Would the Sea Eagle Explorer 380x work well for that purpose? Thanks in advance and look forward to following more of your adventures.

      Hi Paul - It all depends on paddler / gear weights. The 380X - should be able to hold two average weight paddlers and an 80 lb. lab performance wise. You
      would have to position the lab between your legs for the back paddler or up in front if the front paddler isn’t too heavy. It’s all about balancing your
      weights. You don’t want to be too bow heavy, evenly distributed is best. All in all I think it will work fine. If you need more room for gear or just stretching
      out comfort, just move up to the 420X.

    This is a very nice recommendation. We have a goal of camping in our small RV motorhome at most of the Texas State Parks, and Possum Kingdom SP is on our list. It's pretty close to Rochelle's, so could probably figure something out on the RV logistics (as we don't have a tow car). Really enjoyed the view along the way! BTW, is there really much difference between the 380X and the 385FT? Still haven't bought our kayak from Sea Eagle, and looking for something my wife and I can take out to lakes and rivers. One thing that impressed me on the 380X is the stability - which I'm sure my wife would be a proponent of. However, the 385FT, folds up a bit smaller, has more interior width, and is about 5 pounds lighter.

      Hi 👋 there! Thanks for watching and commenting! If you fold up both boats completely, I haven’t noticed much difference in the folded sizes of either
      the Explorer or the FastTrack. I would say there is about a 1 mph difference in cruising speed from the Explorer to the FastTrack. I prefer the Explorer if
      I’m constantly on rivers where I might scrape the bottom a bunch. I prefer the FastTrack, if I’m going to be in deep water most of the time and can
      take advantage of the inflatable and the rear keel. Both are extremely stable boats. Pretty much the Explorer is you do everything boat, just a little
      slower (but not much) and the FastTrack is the fastest, most versatile boat. Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions! Below are links

      @@KayakCliff My husband and I currently own hard shell kayaks but are looking for the portability of inflatables. We just found your channel and are enjoying your reviews and information! We paddle mainly in flat water...lakes, rivers, and ocean marshes. Which kayak is better at handling sudden water changes due to a fast power boat creating waves and weather changes with chopping waters? Thank you!!! (Not interested in tandem). (I like stability; husband doesn't have a preference).

      Rikdeere… I own a small motorhome as well. Mines 28 foot for reference. If you don’t have a tow vehicle and you want to go with inflatables I’d suggest getting an enclosed hitch box. I know Thule makes one and I’m sure there are many others. If you have to store your inflatable inside your not going to be happy in the long run. (Been there done that.) They do take up quite a bit of room which small motorhomes do not have a lot of.
      If you go with an inflatable watch on Craigslist for one of those enclosed hitch mount carriers. They can be found at a reasonable price, they can be locked and this also keeps the smell of august lake water out of your rv as well.

      Hi 👋 there, Joyce - i’m sorry for the late response, I must have missed this! Thank you for watching and commenting! For the type of paddling that you are describing, I think the fast track 385 FT would be probably the best solution for you and your husband. This boat offers unparalleled stability, huge payload capacity, and is still a relatively fast boat to paddle. Have a great day and safe adventuring out there!

    Which model Sea Eagle paddles did you switch to in your video?
    If you think the longer paddles made a difference on the 380X, I can only imagine on the Paddleski 437ps which comes with paddles that are way too short for a boat that wide. Have you had a chance to try wider paddles than the included AB30's on your 437ps yet? I would imagine it would help a lot, though it will still be hard to paddle next to the older 435ps model or the 380X.

      Hi 👋 there Nate - I used the 8’ AB40 paddle which works wonderfully!

    • @n8goulet
      @n8goulet Рік тому +1

      @@KayakCliff And did you compare them on your 437ps vs the included AB30's? That's the boat where I think there would really be a huge difference.
      I think Sea Eagle at checkout on the purchase of the 437ps should suggest the upgrade of the paddles to the AB40's and simply charge an extra fee for the more expensive paddles. The AB30's I feel are simply way too short for the 437ps, and really shouldn't be used with it for much more than getting the boat out into deeper water to drop the motor. Or for people that rarely want to paddle and won't be going very far at all. Anyone in the least bit serious of paddling the 437ps as a kayak needs longer paddles than those included. Even still, I think it would be like paddling a barge vs paddling a kayak. I haven't directly compared paddling my 437ps vs one of my SE330's, but I imagine the SE330 would be easier. And the older 435ps Paddleski paddled so well, I believe it paddled better than even the Explorer. Maybe not on very windy days however. I'm hoping Sea Eagle will bring out a new Paddleski model that paddles more like the old model, but has the advantages of the new model and maybe even fully drop stitch with some improvements. I loved the concept of having a single boat that paddle pretty well in average conditions, made a decent motor boat (well above just a trolling motor) and a sailboat. Only the discontinued 435ps really could I say did all that.

    How do these Sea Eagles hold up to hitting logs and dragging on the rock? Are they raft rental quality or lighter weight?

      Hi 👋 there, thank you so much for watching and asking! On both of my Brazos River videos, there was significant dragging on river rocks and logs, etc. I experienced no damage to the black bottoms at all on all three kayaks - RazorLite, FastTrack and Explorer. Serious question for all. When i look online about getting in the brazos river then i get littered with warnings of brain eating amoeba, toxic waste dumping, etc. They say dont get in. Whats yalls experience and whats all that about?

      @KayakCliff  Рік тому +1

      Hi 👋 There! Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. I have never heard about toxic waste and brain eating amoebas out in the Brazos. It is never a good
      idea to swim in HOT summer months in very stagnant areas, as bacteria that are not good for you do exist. As long as it’s an open area with a little flow,
      you should be fine in my opinion . . . If I’m hot and the water looks good, I’m hopping in!

      The 380X will paddle at cruising speed around 1.5 - 2.5 mph. Maximum speed (sprint) is 3-4 mph, for me.
