One time I and a friend took a little amount of acid and went to see John P in concert. Midway, I was moved to get a little closer to this great person and his band, and my friend and I got up from our seats and went and sat on the floor in front of the first row. He was just finishing up another of his great songs, Hello In There. He and the band noticed our arrival, and seeing the grins on our faces, John on the spot organized an a cappella version of Illegal Smile, and they all lined up at the edge of the stage, and sang it to us and the rest. of the folks
Anything by John Prine is good to react to. The guy was an enormous talent. So sorry that I passed up the chance to see him shortly before he passed. Maybe check out John performing Lake Marie, the Live Sessions at 54th. Fantastic stream of consciousness type of song with great musicianship.
