1 Timothy 4:8. Training your body is of some value, yes, but don't sacrifice it at the expense of your love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, self-control. May your movement flow from the fruit of the Spirit, which will last forever.

This is easy to say when you are jacked at 17. Some guys start off looking like an Auschwitz prisoner. Lifting is about more than woman, but building self confidence and discipline, instilling the irrefutable belief that you can achieve more. Should lifting be your whole life? Of course not. But how you do one thing is how you do everything. To be jacked and excel at fitness is part of a man’s journey to realize his full potential in all aspects of life. Plus, lifting heavy shit is fun

As a man who was never really into working out, this is a breath of fresh air. Might lift twice a week but I love going on long walks, eating good meals and focusing on my work, my relationships and God. "Go gym" "Eat more" "Get big" seeing all these influencers on social media just made me feel like I am not being successful in my life, which is a bunch of bs. Moderation really is key. Haven’t looked at the comments yet but I guarantee at least 75% of guys will lose their minds over this take. He’s not telling you to STOP LIFTING - he’s saying stop making it your priority over more tangible things such as having a personality, charisma/charm, people who love/depend on you and maybe a good-paying career to better the quality of your life as a whole.
I go to the gym at least 4x per week and only do it for the sake of momentum in my week and overall confidence; but at the end of the day it’s all about your AURA. Do people even respect you? Do you even respect yourself? Are you still wondering if you’ll ever meet the unicorn trad waifu you so desperately want?
If the answer is no, you have a much more important task than lifting buddy.

Also, being strong makes me better at baseball, and frankly being big makes you more respected by other men (if they are strangers- in other words, it helps make a good first impression). Finally, it just makes me feel good and helps me get a deeper sleep at night. I can't sleep good if I'm not exhausted from the day.

This is the best advice I've seen regarding the subject. Ultimately, the kind of person you attract due to lifting obsessively is not likely to be the kind of person you want to forge a long term relationship with. Vanity is an ugly trait and attracts superficial people. By all means, lift weights, stay healthy and enjoy it but don't let it become your personality or dominate your self image.

There’s a balance to it. Lifting 5 or 6 days a week can be “depressing”. Not lifting at all for a week and a half gets depressing. 2 or 3 times a week. If you are lifting with the right intensity, you won’t keep taxing yourself when you should be resting. Enjoy your moment of intensity, then get the hell out and enjoy life.

For me workout is play. I don’t think it’s meant to be this complicated and stressful thing that online influencers make it seem like. After a good lift, you feel amazing. It’s way more important to become strong than just trying to look better.

  • @VansLegacy
    @VansLegacy 9 місяців тому +3

My biggest problem with modern gym culture is the integration of being in love with your body/image obsession while trying to integrate with religion (especially Christianity). I’m a Catholic and I simply do not understand the relationship between being a fitness influencer or a gym rat with “loving God.” Yes, you want to respect your body and mind and strengthen it. However, there is a difference between training to become stronger and not consuming poison vs. stripping naked on a camera and worshiping yourself (essentially making yourself an idol - pure idolatry - and even taking drugs) and self-indulging yourself with online attention.
The Ancient Greeks, Romans, and Vikings respected their body because it served as a representation of their ethics and lifestyle. The men were well-versed in both warfare and politics and wisdom. Now, we are regressing. Bodybuilding should serve as an extension of our creative endeavors and discipline, not a form of idolatry.

Working out for a physique or the desire to be perceived a specific kind of way is vapid. Framing it as a form of worship and gratitude for life is what really helps me. To be as healthy as I can be so I can be here longer for the people I love and move in the ways I need to help and be there for the people I love. To keep this body strong, healthy and detoxed and not letting it descend into a cancerous obese death as a form of thanks and responsibility for the fact that I was gifted this body in the first place. To work out to feel those endorphins and thus experience the mental benefits that come with it that allow me to share more happiness with others.

I'm going to have to argue with you here because bodybuilding is a sort of play, it really depends on mindset. I want to get jacked of course but in between sets me and the bros are goofing around, shadow boxing each other. The lifting itself is a competition. Even when lifting alone, I made the most gains when I just got really into it, saw it as a game to beat last week's score.
A lot of us would rather have fun making gains with the boys than be hot to women 24/7. Tbh as long as you don't bulk like a crazy mf you're still attractive so it isn't a bad thing imo if you genuinely enjoy bodybuilding and the sort of culture around it.
Just my two cents but I get what you're saying, Eli.

When you’re running a marathon and on mile 20 and you can barely stand up let alone walk that’s when you have to really dig deep and understand what your body is capable of. I guess I understand this to a point as you have other needs such as to work to make money but your health should alway be #1 priority

I just make sure to stay lean and have abs and thats all. A brutal truth is that most of the people showing physiques online are on roids. after 2-3 years you really max out natty gains and have to jump on roids to continute to progress unless you want to grind for 10 years. My brother fell for the trap and ended up taking roids. Luckily he didn't totally wreck his health.

I put the music on and just destroy my body for minimal results now that I have maximized most of my physical appearance.
Instead of this meaningless grind I am now moving on to trying new things to help my body such as yoga and developing mobility, flexibility and athleticism as well as eating healthier.
I won’t never go to gym anymore but the goal has changed.

Muscle is WAY easier to maintain than to grow initially. After you gain 25-40 lbs from your natural frame, you can only gain like 1-2% more muscle per year after so you're all you gotta do is maintain your muscle mass by hitting each muscle 2x a week and eating protein and just stay lean.

I will continue to bulk and get strong because I like mogging other people and I am going to enjoy it while I am young. When I am 40 I’ll get into running and lift less but right now is the time to be a dog, I am 225 right now and I am gonna bulk to 250 is that healthy? I am sure you’ll say it’s not. I like being bigger than most people because if we are being honest my presence commands respect and people don’t fuck with me. You do you tho.

Comment: There is nothing wrong in lifting weights, as long as you don't do roids, then it's all good. Many men are not lucky with Women Chemistry wise, but they need this hobby (of lifting weights) so it can give them confidence. Love and Females is a very complicated subject, but giving up the weights is not the way to go (for the man).
I get it, there are some young men that look like David the Statue, and they don't lift weights and they are super lucky with Women especially hot women who are 10's. But many men don't have that (attraction) when it comes to reeling them in! When a man is not lucky, he loses confidence in himself. So please don't give up the weights!
Everything said here is tied to each other, so I am making sense here.
I recommend that all men lift weights along with "swimming" daily so One can get a great body.
I too recommend that he speed date along with he in signing up for PUA (pick up artist) Classes.
You need to develop your people skills with Women. Having a great body does not say that women will pop up in your life just like that, but you need to know how to interact with women in public.
Having a great body does not say that you will find true love with a Hot Woman, but it does say that you will be healthy for many years. The goal to life is about living a long time along with being happy and if lifting weights gets you happy then go for it.
People along with this host should ignore Wheat Waffles (the UA-camr). Any man can find love with a Woman but he needs to lower his expectations (his standards) and true love will come into his life.
Not every man will be marrying a Brooke Shields Clone, but it's beautiful when you find love with a Woman who really cares about You. Any person who tells you that giving up the weights is the way to go is actually disabling you as a Man.
If you like playing Ping Pong at the gym, then that is your business and more power to you. The same thing can be said about lifting weights at the gym, it's your life and if you have the power to look more beautiful than 3 years ago, then follow that path (if it makes you happy). Just remember that Women are complicated! You can have muscles and looks along with a great job and to a Woman you may mean nothing so don't worry if you don't find her but focus on looking and feeling great. Life is not perfect but believe in you(self) and don't give up the weights if they make you happy. Never give up your Passion (of lifting weights)!

I think this is excellent advice. Muscle-heading is silly.
On the other hand pushing your athleticism, in a healthy way, to its limits may satisfy a mans need to control and accomplish SOMETHING (more/else) in his life.
Mobility and balance should be a primary anchor to support the athletic journey. Athleticism, not necessarily being an athlete.
Looking your best, signaling your discipline and commitment, this might be noticed by women who will appreciate you for it. Who knows, maybe even a great one.
However, worrying too much about them, especially in their current condition, will siphon off precious life energy you do not want to waste.

I've done some weight and bodyweight stuff and never put on some serious mass because I always hated doing it. I have a pretty wide frame from the get go and also somewhat too much fat on me. While not being the tallest guy I found no sense in actually bulking up and look like Gimli in the end. Much more fun and lifechanging for me was doing cardio more regularly. Slowly leaning out as you've mentioned is my way. It really looks much healthier and more youthful than being jacked as fuck. That's my goal.
I really like stationary cycling on a real racingbike (with Zwift or something) in combination with rowing and Yoga. Also the play aspect is BIG. Trying out new sports courses at the college and meeting and just playing while mainly playing Golf in my freetime did wonders for my mental state. I do bascially only those things but the dumbbells still are being used for basic compound stuff.

I disagree. Maybe this serves as a wakeup call for some gymcells, but for most of us this feels like your average anti-lifting video. Don't keep going because it's small increments? Everything is like this, man, if you took this advice and applied it to everywhere you'd just be hopping from hobby to hobby, chasing the newbie gains. And what part of lifting prevents you from getting all of the other things you cite in the video? Again, I think this is for that guy who makes the gym everything to him, but the way you talk about it sounds more like disencouragement for most of us. You've said it yourself, being there in the gym, pumping iron, being social, it's great, and now you're telling me I should abandon this for something that "gives me success" and "helps people"? Can't always do just productive things, which is weird because you then go on to tell us to play more
Overall, I feel like the intent of this video was a warning to not make your whole life about lifting, but it sounds more like you're dunking on bodybuilding with all that diminishing returns bs that everyone loves to splatter, you said you haven't put on many pounds but you haven't even been training that much, as you said in another video, so maybe you would progress more if you bothered to, but it's not your priority. I'm not that advanced into bodybuilding myself, but I've started watching a bunch of natural bodybuilders who have been going at it for very long and are still reaping great gains, like Natural Hypertrophy, Geoffrey Verity Schofield, etc. and I guess their mindset caught on to me, I won't ever stop bodybuilding and progressing in it because it's fun, and, I don't know if the ladies agree, but it does always make you look better, just take a look at those guys' physiques and tell me that they'd look better without a couple pounds of muscle lol

Outside of how it appears on social media, not that many people workout that seriously and we live such comfortable lives now that even a mega stimmed up workout would barely replicate the adrenaline and hormetic environmental stress of our ancestors. Though as you said, there is clearly diminishing returns and guys should diversify their hobbies and how they exercise. But consider how many guys actually get to the point of looking like they lift/workout?

Easy to say "it's all about the face" when you have the face... I have it too, and most men have it but they don't believe it. Just think, most if not all women wear make up to make themselves look better, men don't, yet we usually match market value or surpass that of our women. Men, the only change we need right now, immediately, imminently, is to accept who we are and be proud of who we are; then you can get the body, then you can chase success, then you can resource to clinique, but you'll do so because you want to, not because it''ll give you something you expect. Haven't you noticed that gyms are packed with insecure men? Women like confident men, women like emotionally stable men, so, let's get ourselves together, the rest will come.
