Thanks for the video. I am Intending to replace my Garmin tomorrow. After watching your detailed video, I'm feeling much more confident about what I will be doing.
Faaaaat Albert ... nice job. Just installed 2 UHD 73sv’s on my bass boat. Using the RJ-45 to connect the two allowing either to see the other’s transducer. Yes, also that port would support the Panoptics hookup.
Nice clean install. I might be installing this same unit in my Pathfinder 2200v tomorrow on NASP. First time messing around with one. Bit anything will be better than the Lowrance originally installed on the boat in 2000. I keep my boat at the marina by the front gate.
You did a great job. I have a Garmin 4212 I need to replace. I used Boat Outfitters for my rocker switch panel too. They do good work. Thanks for your video.
It's a good idea to always pull another jet line (pull string) through each time so you always have one if you need it. Also, I use a small plastic bag on the connector end before using tape, it keeps the connector free of residue.
Great and informative video. I just got the unit. I wish the cradle flush mounted permanently so the unit could still be removed. Doesn't seem to be a workaround for that.
Thanks for posting this video of your experience with installing your new Garmin unit. It is informative and illustrates very well how to successfully make this project happen.
There's one thing I didn't see - two old bracket holes filled in before installing the new transducer bracket. Any hole or damage to a boat hull can be filled in to be just as strong as the hull by using an epoxy putty product "marine-tek". it's sold at most marine stores. West Marine sells it under their own brand "West-Tek". It allowed me to completely refit my Mako 211. With a little paint, you'll never know the old holes were there. Ream out the hole to get down to new material, get an epoxy syringe - also from West Marine, mix the putty and load the syringe - new hull, no water intrusion.
Thanks for the comment. It’s definitely a relatively straight forward install with the newer tech, and less mess of wires like the old one I had pulled out.

Nice vid. I just purchased a garmin gpsmap 1042xvs for my BW 190 Outrage. So the transducer does not cut out at any speed? I had that problem with the old transducer.
Readings at higher speeds will almost always be interfered with at some point due to disturbances in the water. But I have experienced accurate reads up to about 35 mph continuously based off bottom knowledge.
Fabulous install, thanks for sharing! Two quick questions...now that it’s almost July are you still happy with this unit and does it require an external GPS antenna or is it contained within the unit? Thanks again for sharing.
Yes I am still very happy with the unit. Even urged my father to buy the same one for his boat. I am a little upset that they are much cheaper it seems now haha. And no external GPS unit needed at all! Everything is self contained.
Hi Anthony nice content, and I'm sure you already catch alot of fish with your garmin 94sv..... I just wanto know how far are your transducer in the water
How far beneath the water isn’t as important as to where on the hill of the boat it’s mounted. With that, you should try to mount it as low as possible on the hull, while also avoiding anything that’s going to crest water turbulence when underway
Hi...I like your video. I wonder how well your unit and Transducer work in shallow water and mid-range water such as between 20ft and 600 ft deep? Do they give you clear images in that range ? Thank you
Thanks! And that is all I have used my unit for so far. I have it on the factory setting still and I don’t have any issues with readout. I am still trying to completely figure out the ClearVu stuff though. Haven’t been out real deep though.
So I’m trying to mount mine on the dash and I see you have screw hold to mount yours on the front of your graph. I have the same one but I don’t see holes for mounting it? There is a lot of little screwes on the back and it looks like I have to take it apart to mount it? Did you have to separate yours before you did it? Hope that makes sense
Paul there are two faceplates on the front of the unit that need to be taken off to expose the mounting holes. They are about a half inch or so pieces, and run along the bottom and top of the faceplate. Hope this helps
I just bought a 73sv Echomap Plus. Were there any other mounting brackets (not the Starboard) that you needed? The 4 screws hold it in place? I'm concerned about it popping out and wondering if I need anything additional that was not included (or missing) from the box. Thanks!
Everything you need for a clean install comes in the box. Whether you’re flush mounting or bracket mounting. The only reason you’d need more materials is if you had to re-work any surface area like I did.
www.westmarine.com/buy/3m--marine-grade-silicone-sealant-white--190280?recordNum=11 I think I used this if I remember. But any of the 3M Marine sealants can work. It’s just filling/sealing screw holes.
I want to say it was 8.5” x 12” but not certain. And yes it was half inch. The dimensions will be pretty specific to you if you are trying to re-surface a pre-existing hole. I wanted to cover my old cutout, but not create too big of a black frame to take away from the aesthetics of the garmin itself.
@@anthonyblack7990 Yours looks perfect. Must be about an 1 1/2" border around the unit. I have bought other items from Boat Outfitters - great company!
They were super helpful with getting me what I need. I have gone back to them since with custom requests and am working on other projects using their products.
No they were a pain in the butt. I had a plastic putty knife I was using (don’t use metal tools). Start at one end and once you get it in the seem, slowly try to slide it down the rest of the seam. I remember it definitely being difficult.
Hey, good video. My instal wasn’t as smooth, took my 3 days 😅. I’m still having some trouble finding structure and fish with the sounder. If your available I could use some help
What trouble are you having? As long as your settings are still factory set, you shouldn’t have issues reading bottom. Are you getting feedback at all? Are you sure your numbers are accurate?
I just installed my Garmin 73sv on my kayak. Upon setting it up it asks to select vessel type: powerboat or sailboat. Not sure which one to select for kayak. Does it matter?
For your application, you would choose powerboat. The option really matters if you’re using it on a sailboat, for there are different settings/accessories/transducer offsets/etc. with a sailboat. Thanks for the question. Hope this helps.
I would make it just about flush with the bottom of the hull. The only reason you lower it on a motorized boat is to get the transducer below the turbulent water coming off the boat.
I believe it was a 12” x 8” but don’t remember for certain. The size of the board will really depend on how big of an existing hole you may be trying to cover, as well as how much of a frame you’re wanting to create around the unit. A good piece of advice to test things out is to cut cardboard and insert the device on it to see how you like the look, and get sufficient measurements.
Check the manual for power specifications. It has the in-line so you don’t need a second one. But I sent mine to a buss bar that has fuses as well I don’t remember what fuse I used, but it was what’s recommended in the manual. Maybe 10A?
