    Austin, I'm speechless right now....I just quit my job today for literally the same reasons you are talking about. I can't believe I'm watching you explained everything I need to do, I have my mind set on obtaining a class a cdl, and doing a traid school at night. Thinking about buying a cheap engin drive and throwing it in the back of my truck after watching this video. Was at a place I couldn't stand beaing at for 7 years, and I broke it off today, I just couldn't waste no more time there, I've been so nervous these past two days, abut after seeing this video I'm relly inspired!

      So stoked for you! I am wishing you nothing the best. Work hard and know that you have it in you. You survived 7 years of a crappy job you can survive anything! Take care.

    Something to keep in mind. Some schools only give you a CERTIFICATE of completing a training program. Other schools will have you test for an AWS (American Welding Society) CERTIFICATION. Lot of jobs sites and employers require an AWS certification. Make sure the school you choose can certify you. The deference being qualified welder vs certified welder. A 3G and 4G cert will certify you for fillet and groove welds in all positions (plate). 6G is pipe. 3/8" test plate certifies to 3/4", 1" test plate certifies to unlimited thickness.

    I wish I had met someone like you 50 years ago. My life would have been so different. I never had the self-confidence to make meaningful changes in my life. Instead, I bounced from one job that I hated to the next.

    This video couldn’t have come out at a better time. I wrapped up my first “big” welding job this week and got off the phone with a customer about a pipe fence I’m going to start when this video dropped😂

    I had a welding business for about 7 years. I did architectural, food service welding, and general repair. I went back to work at regular job the past 10 years. I am looking to retire in 3 or 4 years. I am going to work part time with welding in retirement. There is a lot of work out there if you are versatile.

    I'm slowly working my way to being a full-time rig welder. I started my llc in '21, and this year has been my best year so far. The month of March turned out more work and profit than the whole 3 years prior

    As a mobile job shop welder and field fabrication. Well said Austin. Some of these social media pages are so "fake" promising guys. They can load up a Harbor freight generator and a 110v flux mig welder in the back of their subaru. And their gonna make big $$$ like a guy who has put in the time and gained years of experience.

    I’m a traveling field support mechanic for a construction company and a couple years ago I got the opportunity to work with the welder and I have discovered the joy in dropping my hood. I am planning on in January starting a welding trade school at night in welding in the town I’m currently working out of. I’m just currently working nights. Thank you for the video, definitely confirmed I am going in the right direction for what direction I want to go in my career!

    What I have been doing for the last few years is being a single hand welder . It is the same as being a rig welder. I'm up and down the highway all the time I do shutdowns new construction tanks turnaround's this is where you find out if you want to be a rig welder without spending all that money to find out this may not be for you. It also gives you a chance to get tooled up . This will give you the experience you need to become a rig welder if you decide to do it.

    Practiced 4G 1" plate tests today. Lost count on how many passes went in each weld but it was a lot. My shoulder is tired. Need to find a more comfortable position for overhead.

    Hey Austin, I’ve been watching for years now. I just got off the navy in December. Decided I wanted to be a welder so I went to school for a semester. Ended catching on fast and landed a welding position at the shipyard. My question is while I’m working what would be a smart side gig to create a portfolio?

    • @arosswelding
      @arosswelding  5 місяців тому +1

      I’d say whatever it is you are most interested in. If you could do anything you wanted and make a living doing it or create a business around it, what would that thing be?

      @@arosswelding I want to be my own boss. With that being said, I would like to build hand rails for the time being then eventually move onto bigger projects. I feel like hand rails would be perfect to be able to do as a weekend gig to build my travel rig
