Austin, I'm speechless right now....I just quit my job today for literally the same reasons you are talking about. I can't believe I'm watching you explained everything I need to do, I have my mind set on obtaining a class a cdl, and doing a traid school at night. Thinking about buying a cheap engin drive and throwing it in the back of my truck after watching this video. Was at a place I couldn't stand beaing at for 7 years, and I broke it off today, I just couldn't waste no more time there, I've been so nervous these past two days, abut after seeing this video I'm relly inspired!
So stoked for you! I am wishing you nothing the best. Work hard and know that you have it in you. You survived 7 years of a crappy job you can survive anything! Take care.
A month later. How is it going? I'm thinking of doing the same, starting my own fabrication business.
Something to keep in mind. Some schools only give you a CERTIFICATE of completing a training program. Other schools will have you test for an AWS (American Welding Society) CERTIFICATION. Lot of jobs sites and employers require an AWS certification. Make sure the school you choose can certify you. The deference being qualified welder vs certified welder. A 3G and 4G cert will certify you for fillet and groove welds in all positions (plate). 6G is pipe. 3/8" test plate certifies to 3/4", 1" test plate certifies to unlimited thickness.
I wish I had met someone like you 50 years ago. My life would have been so different. I never had the self-confidence to make meaningful changes in my life. Instead, I bounced from one job that I hated to the next.
This video couldn’t have come out at a better time. I wrapped up my first “big” welding job this week and got off the phone with a customer about a pipe fence I’m going to start when this video dropped😂
Mr. Earl Nightingale, Mr. Napoleon Hill & Mr. Jim Ron are amazing Mr. Ross.
I had a welding business for about 7 years. I did architectural, food service welding, and general repair. I went back to work at regular job the past 10 years. I am looking to retire in 3 or 4 years. I am going to work part time with welding in retirement. There is a lot of work out there if you are versatile.
I'm slowly working my way to being a full-time rig welder. I started my llc in '21, and this year has been my best year so far. The month of March turned out more work and profit than the whole 3 years prior
As a mobile job shop welder and field fabrication. Well said Austin. Some of these social media pages are so "fake" promising guys. They can load up a Harbor freight generator and a 110v flux mig welder in the back of their subaru. And their gonna make big $$$ like a guy who has put in the time and gained years of experience.
Austin's videos started me down the path of changing careers. Going to be a celebrity youtuber! Just kidding, working on my aws certs right now.
Do it I subbed
I’m a traveling field support mechanic for a construction company and a couple years ago I got the opportunity to work with the welder and I have discovered the joy in dropping my hood. I am planning on in January starting a welding trade school at night in welding in the town I’m currently working out of. I’m just currently working nights. Thank you for the video, definitely confirmed I am going in the right direction for what direction I want to go in my career!
My pleasure! That’s very exciting to be headed towards what you want to be doing! I’m excited for you!
I started watching you back during covid when you got laid off from the pipeline. Ive been working a decent job the last year and lost it. Thought it would be bad but now in a couple of months Im going to welding school!
What I have been doing for the last few years is being a single hand welder . It is the same as being a rig welder. I'm up and down the highway all the time I do shutdowns new construction tanks turnaround's this is where you find out if you want to be a rig welder without spending all that money to find out this may not be for you. It also gives you a chance to get tooled up . This will give you the experience you need to become a rig welder if you decide to do it.
Great motivational and self help video! Austin, thank you for all that you do to help others to advance in the art and career of welding. This video is very helpful and uplifting to provoke action into the advancement of being a productive welder.
That’s my good buddy’s truck in your thumb nail. Ironically he’s the one who inspired me to be a rig welder. I was his helper now we both are bad asses lol
Very very good video Austin, great information and easily understood. Thanks for sharing with everyone. Fred.
Austin thank you for this great information. Greatly appreciated.
Check with your local state college, cause some of them offer night classes on welding..
Good show Bro I'm 48 & working as a Millwright at a Aluminum Extrusion plant in Ohio doing Frankenstein Welds lol & just more want
Think about taking a welding certification program at my local state college
😅I'm 45 have been off and on welding since I was 12. And learned alot in diesel tech. and just starting to put a truck together, and already got my llc trying to get a call back I hand out cards every where I go it's hard cause my 8-5 is actually 6-6 91hrs per week. I get steel and lay beeds when ever possible
So I'm turning 17 in October I'm 3 weeks into welding school at sotech ardmore Oklahoma I graduate in May of next year I'm thinking about doing a small welding business doing pipe fence and small repairs when I graduate and then when I turn 18 getting a welding job somewhere just hoping I can find a good deal on a diesel next year for my rig
Nice and informative! I'm trying, but my mig welding is cracking and braking. But I'm still trying. 😅
Practiced 4G 1" plate tests today. Lost count on how many passes went in each weld but it was a lot. My shoulder is tired. Need to find a more comfortable position for overhead.
That's how i felt
Great video
How long did you wait until you got insurance? I priced it around 6000 a year in ohio but im assuming probably important to have in getting job's and just for peoples comfort
Hey Austin, I’ve been watching for years now. I just got off the navy in December. Decided I wanted to be a welder so I went to school for a semester. Ended catching on fast and landed a welding position at the shipyard. My question is while I’m working what would be a smart side gig to create a portfolio?
I’d say whatever it is you are most interested in. If you could do anything you wanted and make a living doing it or create a business around it, what would that thing be?
@@arosswelding I want to be my own boss. With that being said, I would like to build hand rails for the time being then eventually move onto bigger projects. I feel like hand rails would be perfect to be able to do as a weekend gig to build my travel rig
A great video maybe the best yet thanks for this today Austin, I'm slowly putting my own rig together and looking forward to getting out there and getting after it keep burning that rod brother
Hi, loving your content! Which type of rod would you recommend to use for a root pass on pipes if 6010/6011 not available at all (for example, in Europe)?
Becoming a rig l can work 24 7 !!
Just curious when is the pipe fence course opening again?
It’s open now!

I’m in the same place. Going in to my normal job is sickening. Just don’t quite have the workload to leave.

Cemetery is the richest place on earth cause all the dreams that never happen cause of people afraid of failure..

I'm in my 50's and going to welding school tomorrow.
8 to 5? What's THAT!? I'm a 530-900 man. Up at 530, dont sleep till 9. Come home and my shower runs black. THAT'S how I know I got some work done.
Exploited 😢
Go buy 8 hr work day hello 14/18 hr days 😮
I've welded for some Tacos, and I've also welded for a haircut
Love u
The tax rate, SSS, and putting money into an IRA. It makes it hard. I'm hard on myself, because I need to be!
How do I subscribe twice
8-5 .?? That's office hrs. To pay the bills and have a life in the UK, quite normal for a 10 he working day plus Saturday..That was as 10 yrs ago, no idea what the guys have to put down now.. But if you put the effort in, you get the reward..miss those days tho.
Not as much as we should lol😅
