@@hughrattray9354 Yes I'm one of them. Been an Octopus customer for over 5 years as well. Survey booked for just after Christmas, which they have told me is a 3 to 4 hour process.
I've gone with Heat Geek for my system, but because every single radiator (and therefore by extension, the pipework to feed them) needs upgrading significantly, it's almost a bit academic trying to get lots of quotes. It's going to be a lot of work. my numbers tally with yours... same kind of ball park.
Thank You for that info but I feel that level of cost is far too high and the price is being forced up to pinch the Gov't grant (you can buy an awful lot of gas for those prices at present!) We'll stick with our old Faithful Baxi back boiler until the prices come down and the level of expertise goes dramatically up? This stuff is already in mass production, Vaillant is a multi-national German company for Pete's sake and the stuff is well used all over Europe! Unless I'm missing the point of course???
The cost of my installation, after the grant, was less, in real terms, than the last time I had to replace my gas boiler so I think it is worth planning for your next heating system to be a heat pump. The grants have also increased recently. I also found my heat pump saves between 18% and 50% on running cost vs a gas boiler. I cover this in the video "Microbore heat pump 12 months performance" at about 17 minutes in.
Thanks again @hughrattray9354. I am actively watching all aspects. Our biggest issue is 8mm microbore pipework which appears to have obvious issues and would be a massive extra cost to upgrade. If we can get a guarantee of efficiency and that temperatures will be acceptable to MBH (Much Better Half) with our present circulation, it would be great and we'd go ahead. However, apart from the few Heat Geeks the overall level of calculation and specification skill seems very low - the main reason for waiting? Baxi has done well and has cost very little in over 20 years as against the limited life of condensing boilers (of which most never seem to be run in condensing mode as most plumbers appear to set them at their max. Just my perceptions?)
@@Shearers1953you can check online quotes from a Heat Geek installer as I did. Unfortunately, and my guess is because they know they have the necessary expertise, quotes are really high in price. I think about 5-7 K above average….. we all know that extra money goes right into the pockets of the installers. Maybe I’m wrong about this….?
7kw heat pump £4655, thats where I have a problem. I can buy a swimming pool heat pump with a titanium heat exchanger around 15-17kw for half that amount! The great heat pump rip off!
I think there is a lot of over pricing at the moment as the installers are now very busy. The 7Kw Vaillant at a VAT free price of about £3k was lower than I expected.
@hughrattray9354 Yes, I feel as there is a Gov incentive scheme for some, prices have risen to absorb that into profit margins, not really what its for. Mass production of heat pumps should lower the cost per unit, a lot more of these domestic heat pumps than swimming pool versions so someone's doing very well out of this. I am enjoying your videos, very helpful.
@@givemethejob3293I am hoping the high demand for heat pumps will bring more installers into the market. There is no point increasing grants further at the moment as the extra will just be taken as higher profits. I have spoken to a few people who have had competitive quotes from Octopus.

I would suggest arranging for national installers (the energy companies) to provide quotations. Some are pushing costs down.
Quite a few people I know have had pretty reasonable quotes from Octopus energy

Also, keep it up, these videos are a fantastic resource!
Yes, too expensive, I just did my own, so no government help. Lol
Did you compare the HG quote with a different installer?

Expect a lot of unreasonable quotes, just keep trying, and don’t overpay, there is no rush.
Totally agree. Just keep looking and be patient.
