    I admire your ability to explain anything pleasantly, precisely and with great clarity. With regard to peanut butter sandwich variations, there are better alternatives, such as sprinkling a quarter cup of raisins on top, or spreading on a layer of strawberry preserves. Or both! I really like your videos, and find your voice strangely relaxing. I'm beginning to wonder if a form of hypnosis is being surreptitiously practiced.

    Very nice video as usual, I've learned a few nuances I didn't quite get before. Questions: 1/ is the first meaning of "as such" more or less interchangeable with "per se"? (and if not, how do they differ?) and 2/ can the second meaning of "as such" be replaced by "for this reason" or "which means"? (it sounds right to me in your examples, but I'd rather make sure). Thanks for your help and please keep up the good work.

    Great video! There's one phrase/expression with 'such' that always gives me a headache: 'such that'. After years of speaking English i still havent figured out the difference between 'such that' and 'so that' (if there's any) 😅

    • @LetThemTalkTV
      @LetThemTalkTV  3 місяці тому +1

      they are different use "such that" to talk about the seriousness of a condition you mentioned before. "the number of comments is such that I can't answer them all"...it's quite formal.

    • @HermanVonPetri
      @HermanVonPetri 3 місяці тому

      And if I may add, "so that" is usually used in the middle of a sentence to indicate that the task or process that comes before is either a requirement of the thing that is mentioned afterwards, or it helps us accomplish whatever is mentioned next in the sentence.
      For example, you could say "I cleaned all day long _so that_ the house would look nice for the dinner party tonight." The task of cleaning helps us accomplish the goal of making the house look nice. "I did something _so that_ another thing can happen." "I took an earlier train so that I could arrive on time."
      It might be a little confusing, but you can sometimes use "so that" at the beginning of a sentence and it tends to reverse the order of what is required. "So that the house will look nice, I cleaned all day long."

    @LetThemTalkTV Great teaching, thanks! - Have you done something on the conjunctive use of ‚like‘, or will you? I‘d really love to hear about that one from an expert. I teach English as a second language and I‘ve come to accept phrases like (😅) ‚The president behaves like he were a little child‘, even in writing, originally marking it down as a register or lexical mistake and demanding students use ‚as if‘ instead of ‚like‘ (which is what I was taught decades ago). Searching for competent sources I‘ve found the Webster (online) arguing that conjunctive use of ‚like‘ has been firmly established over centuries while people seem to have reservations if educated to use British English. What advice should I give?

    Hi, Gideon. This was great. I learn a lot from your videos. Greetings from Colombia. I have a question, I hope you can give me an answer. This isn't related to this topic, but I usually watch videos of people speaking naturally and I have noticed that sometimes they pronounce the R sounf like the one we use in Spanish, for example they say something like "get up" and they say it like "gerrrrrrrrrup" putting emphasis on that R and they don't say it with a flap. I don't know it that make sense to you. Thanks in advance

    Sir, How to describe this kind of situation?
    Suppose there was a party last night but i and a friend of mine didn't go to the party and now we're talking about another friend of ours and guessing but we're not sure about whether he went or not we're just guessing
    1) If he went to the party he must have enjoyed
    2) If he would have gone to party he must have enjoyed
    Now first one makes me feel that how could i use past simple when I'm not sure or have no idea about him going or not and on the other hand i feel second one is okay but because we're speculating but i read we should never use would have + v3 because it's third conditional. Then how do i express or describe situation? 🙏

    Not to confuse the issue, but how you say a thing depends on what you want the listener to hear. To use the example from the video, "I'm the boss, and as such, what I say goes." Perfectly fine. But kind of low-energy.
    Suppose the boss was having an argument with one of her workers, she could say, "I'm the boss, and because I'm the boss, what I say goes." The phrase is repeated on purpose because you're making it very clear, and emphasizing the point that You Are The Boss.
