Thanks for watching! This was a challenging design and a fun build! I figured I'd take a moment and answer some of the questions that I've been getting here. Q: Is the top heavy to lift? A: Not since I used Cedar. Cedar is a very soft and light wood that is great for outdoor furniture because of its resilience to the elements. In this case, it was the perfect choice. If you build this out of a more dense wood, expect the top to be a little more challenging to open. Q: Aren't you afraid of accidentally bumping it closed when it's open? A: It's actually more difficult than you would think. The top pivots up and out, meaning that for it to close, it takes a lifting action. However, if you're concerned with it, you could use some of the left over 1" dowel and inset it into the support post with a mortise in the leg for it to lock into. Q: How sturdy is the table? Looks a little flimsy. A: It's a little wobbly as you deploy it, but once that support post is in position, it's stable. Obviously, you can't do handstands on it, but it will hold up just fine for dinner to be had. It's similar in sturdiness to one of those fold-up card tables that Grandma always uses at Thanksgiving for the kids to eat at. Q: Is there storage in it? You should have added storage. Why didn't you add storage? I could store things in it! A: Between the diagonal supports and the support post that hangs down from the table surface, the potential storage space is very minimal. Yes, you could add some slats across the bottom, but you won't be able to store a ton of stuff in it. Q: What did you use for finish? A: Thompson's transparent water seal Q: What program did you use to design it? A: Fusion360 Q: Is Fusion360 hard to learn?? A: Yes Q: Did you really put fish in the heating registers of your college dining hall? A: You better believe it!
Love watching these old vids I missed. Today I cut a walnut glue up 22 15/16 instead of 23 15/16. I’m so glad I’m not the only muppet that can manage making beautiful furniture using the cut twice measure once, then glue and cut again methodology.
Im the meanest person in the world, to myself, in my shop. You dumbass - yup you screwed that up again - man that looks like crap. Then at the end of it all, "hey that didnt turn out half bad."
There are plenty of boring, straight forward people on UA-cam. Humor and charisma with good instructions can attract people just as much, probably more, than just instructive content. This is great stuff
Clever design! Thanks for showing the doofus moments. It really helps the rest of us just getting going! I try not to get mad at myself when I have my doofus moments and seeing more accomplished woodworkers still making mistakes truly helps me keep my perspective. Congrats on a nice piece for your patio.
Awesome video. Love the humor and the REAL LIFE of any wood worker. You always see 10 minute videos of projects working out “perfectly “ but never see the reAl side of things. Again great video.
I have watched hundreds of DIY videos, but gave never enjoyed a video as much as I did this one. Amazing idea, build and commentary. I loved everything about this.
ok, You are officially my new favorite woodworking channel. Thanks for including the outtakes, it means a lot to amateur woodworkers like me to see that you call out your stupidity in the shop just like I do. Sometimes in this instagram world we live in, we always see just the finished products of others, and the frustration of our own projects and we want to give up. Thanks for keepin it real.
Oh thank god im not the only one who messes up!!! Please keep the outtakes going. When mistakes aren’t shown it gets discouraging bc the other guys make it look so simple and easy. I love the table! I’m gonna make that!
Just started woodworking about a year ago and realized your stop block on your miter table is nicer than any crooked birdhouse I've made. Love the channel!!!!
For the 8 years of me on UA-cam I have about 20-25 subbed channels, this is one of them. Great job for all the projects you did. Very good craftsmanship, love it.
I watch woodworking videos all day, to learn and get ideas. This has been one of the most enjoyable videos I’ve seen in the last 5 years. Thank you for this.
Your stop frame animation skills are highly under-rated! Considering the effort it must have taken to do the 'self sorting lumber' bit all for a 'small joke' its a testament to your commitment to high quality content!
This is awesome. This is what I was planning on building for my deck. You have no idea how much I appreciate the outtakes. Makes me not feel so bad I good and have to give it another go.
This project was very cool and someday I’ll get around to the exterior of the house and then the backyard and then the patio and THEN I can do this table! Love the dog marking his territory...
I love how awesome this turned out! Also this is the first skillshare ad I've watched all the way through in a long time. Loved the evenly spaced jokes throughout!
This was awesome. I bet your shop smelled heavenly while you were working this project. I love your sense of humor. I aspire to be able to do a project that looks half as good as one of yours
I love this piece. One of my favorites from your channel. I think you could use a locking pin though. I can visualize someone hip checking the table top down while food and drinks are on it.
This is such a lovely and beautiful piece! I love the outtakes at the end, it gets to show me experienced woodworkers would still make mistakes like I always do, and I shouldn’t get too frustrated and give up.
A couple ideas for add-on's later, if you think they have any merit. Where the lift arm touches the top rail, a dent in each corner edge might appear over time. If that should start to happen, countersunk screws in each member at that point with the heads just touching each other, would prevent further denting and keep the top level (although the leg extension and V-channel will probably prevent that). Also, a full bottom spanning and resting atop the lower rails would provide some useful storage, for games, cups, mats, napkins, etc. (plus prevent spiders, wasps and other critters from finding a home under there). Anyway, well done! I'd make this, but I can't drive the Home Depot forklift yet. Maybe someday.... :)
Awesome job. I love the video and I love the outtakes even more. Glad to see I am not the only one who makes major mistakes like gluing in the pieces upside down.
I really like your video, this is an amazing creation and you showed us your mistakes so that it allows me to forgive myself for sometimes making mistakes in woodwork. Thanks for sharing your experience, this is one of the best videos I watched during my self quarantine.
It's very nice, thank you as well for the outtakes, I watched it in the morning before work and I laughed hard, looks like someone other than myself glues things the wrong way, a perfect way to set the tone for my day.
Nice job! You almost have me convinced I could build that table. Also, I think it would be a nice storage spot inside it for Drew when he's outside, since he didn't show much respect!
Another great build Drew, the colours that popped out were amazing, i see why you love that wood so much. Oh and i think your dog was making its mark on the table, as his property now ha ha ha. Barry (ENG)
I'm actually building a cedar planter right now and the legs are made of the same 4x4s, and I, like you, milled them down to 3x3. I got 2 posts that were perfectly straight at the store and were nice and bowed by the time I got home, I could literally see it happening in the bed of the pickup in my rear view on the way home. I am sure glad I was able to cut them into 2 foot sections and mill them flat. Nice work on the table!
How funny, someone else that speaks just like I do. Also, speaks to self the same way. Love it!! Beautiful herringbone pattern on the top of the table.
That is an absolutely beautiful table . I never really realised just how brethtakingly lovely looking cedar is .The outtakes were great . Clearly your dog does not fully recognise your genius efforts.Ha ha ha .
Great work. Hope I can complete this project once I get everything ready. Wonder how it will come together with pocket holes. Loved the bloopers. Woodworking seems relaxing and peaceful. Thank again.

@FishersShop is woodworking your actual job or a side hustle?
Just a hobby.
@@FishersShop nice
Where do you buy the self sorting lumber? I can't find it at the local home store
What spray rig did you use to apply finish? Have you done a video on it?
Love watching these old vids I missed. Today I cut a walnut glue up 22 15/16 instead of 23 15/16. I’m so glad I’m not the only muppet that can manage making beautiful furniture using the cut twice measure once, then glue and cut again methodology.
I can't begin to tell you how many times I screw up
Fisher's Shop is the Bob Ross of the wood working world. So easy to watch. Keep up the great work and funny outtakes!
yes he is and it is calming and funny
upside down legs are just little happy accidents
Omg yes. I can fall asleep to his videos they’re so soothing. I never Listen to peoples adds but I do his cuz the way he talks is just satisfying
Yes! Makes it look so easy but us mere mortals could never recreate it.
Agree! “Are you peeing on my table?”
Dog: “It’s my table now.”
Definitely my favorite content creator. Great work as usual!
Dude, the bloopers, that's totally me in my shop, ever the exterior dialogue between me and myself. And I don't even have a camera running. Love it.
Im the meanest person in the world, to myself, in my shop. You dumbass - yup you screwed that up again - man that looks like crap. Then at the end of it all, "hey that didnt turn out half bad."
My dialog usually involves more swearing. Much more swearing.
Much much much more swearing with the biggie words and an occasional tool tossing episode.
Peter Filardo
How could this happen is my way to often and then figure out how to solve the holy xxxx issue. Great job on the touch of reality.
Same here. And I talk to myself in first person plural. Please don't tell me that's weird, I'll just be worried.
There are plenty of boring, straight forward people on UA-cam. Humor and charisma with good instructions can attract people just as much, probably more, than just instructive content.
This is great stuff
I love it! I will be getting the plans and saying "crap" a lot in the near future!!!
You got this!
Clever design! Thanks for showing the doofus moments. It really helps the rest of us just getting going! I try not to get mad at myself when I have my doofus moments and seeing more accomplished woodworkers still making mistakes truly helps me keep my perspective. Congrats on a nice piece for your patio.
Glad you enjoyed! Thanks!
I just love your subtle humor. Makes it even funnier.
The outtakes 😂😂😂
I thought I only did dumb stuff in the shop, appreciate your videos and honesty. Great table BTW!
Thanks, Gary!
Stunning!
Thank you! 😊
Awesome video. Love the humor and the REAL LIFE of any wood worker. You always see 10 minute videos of projects working out “perfectly “ but never see the reAl side of things. Again great video.
Thanks Tim!
I agree, came out fantastic...
I have watched hundreds of DIY videos, but gave never enjoyed a video as much as I did this one. Amazing idea, build and commentary. I loved everything about this.
Thanks James!
I love that you set expectations low, and surprise yourself every time!
Did he have to do the self-sorting lumber bit?
No.
Did it take forever?
Yes.
Was it hilarious and worth it?
Always.
He did that for us. Never forget it.
I really like the outtakes because it shows that I'm not the only one that stuff things up
I’m not sure if I’ve seen a single one of your videos that I haven’t wanted to do. And I look forward to the outtakes every time. You’re awesome, man.
Well thanks so much! :)

I love the table! I’m gonna make that!
Awesome! Have fun with the build, Tim!
Just started woodworking about a year ago and realized your stop block on your miter table is nicer than any crooked birdhouse I've made. Love the channel!!!!
10:59/11:00 - the eternal sound of the happy inventor. Love it!
For the 8 years of me on UA-cam I have about 20-25 subbed channels, this is one of them. Great job for all the projects you did. Very good craftsmanship, love it.
Thanks!
I've never giggled so much while watching a building project. Thank you for sharing your GLORIOUS sense of humour.
I watch woodworking videos all day, to learn and get ideas. This has been one of the most enjoyable videos I’ve seen in the last 5 years. Thank you for this.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Love the way the table looks and operates! Perfect for the uses you specified.
Thanks bud!
I wish I was your neighbor. The woodwork wood be great, but you have the sense of humor I really enjoy.
Your stop frame animation skills are highly under-rated! Considering the effort it must have taken to do the 'self sorting lumber' bit all for a 'small joke' its a testament to your commitment to high quality content!
Thank you very much!
I watch your videos as much for the humor as for the inspiration. Thanks.
Awesome video man! Love the table. Also your sense of humor gets me everytime.
Thanks! :)
Not sure if I like the table or humor more. Thanks for sharing!
I like you showing mistakes. Most channels don’t. And you should do radio. Great voice. Love the design
Terrific humor. Keeps me coming back to your channel.
Love your sense of humor...classic...so funny and you have to listen closely..
Woodworking and good humor; two of my most favorite things. Thanks Drew
Thanks, Adam!
I have no need for a table like this, but watching you build stuff always gives me inspiration for stuff I DO need.
This is awesome. This is what I was planning on building for my deck. You have no idea how much I appreciate the outtakes. Makes me not feel so bad I good and have to give it another go.

Thanks Zach! And thanks so much for your help with the project.
Your ingenuity is admirable friend. Well done.
This is the best woodworking channel on UA-cam.
Love the project and the humour. Thanks for sharing.
This was awesome. I bet your shop smelled heavenly while you were working this project. I love your sense of humor. I aspire to be able to do a project that looks half as good as one of yours
Thanks, Joni!
I love this piece. One of my favorites from your channel. I think you could use a locking pin though. I can visualize someone hip checking the table top down while food and drinks are on it.

Glad you like them!
Your humor is golden. Such enjoyable videos!
Another great video Drew! Great design for a great looking table that is even better functionally. Keep up the good work!
Thank you sir!
Loved the design. It's come out really nice. Hope the table surface does not wobble when it's extended out
Nice job man
I've had an idea to make something exactly like that. Thanks for sharing. I really look forward to your videos when I get a notification.
Glad you liked it, Eric
This is such a lovely and beautiful piece!
I love the outtakes at the end, it gets to show me experienced woodworkers would still make mistakes like I always do, and I shouldn’t get too frustrated and give up.
This may be my favorite project you've done. Looks gorgeous!
Thanks Michael
Fisher, I love watching your videos, sir. Thank you for what you do, sir.
Love the commentary! Martha Stewart, insider trading, taking top off... keep up the witty banter!
Just found your channel, you are totally the woodworking version of this old tony.
Really enjoy your videos!
Snuffaluhfaguss yes
You have the gift of narration man. Keep it up. Loved this!
Thanks!
Once again, a beautiful project, an informative and funny, funny video! Thanks for doing what you do!
Thanks, Tim!
You make this look so easy, and add a touch of humor at the same time. Keep up the great work!!!!!!!
I always enjoy your videos! The best part are the bloopers!
Another great build mate, good to see you constantly trying something different.
Thanks! :)
Sweet table - I love that you made it all out of wood!
Very clever design, the outcome is fantastic.
Excellent design

The subtle jokes you make are awesome. Keep up the great work !!!
Awesome job. I love the video and I love the outtakes even more. Glad to see I am not the only one who makes major mistakes like gluing in the pieces upside down.

Thank you so much!
Thanks for the last 30 seconds. You showed the little frustrations I encounter in every project :P
Also the project is beautiful
It's very nice, thank you as well for the outtakes, I watched it in the morning before work and I laughed hard, looks like someone other than myself glues things the wrong way, a perfect way to set the tone for my day.
That table is totally awesome! Amazing design!
Thanks, Joseph!
Nice job! You almost have me convinced I could build that table. Also, I think it would be a nice storage spot inside it for Drew when he's outside, since he didn't show much respect!
Very nice build. Enjoyable video.....thanks for taking us along for the build. It was fun.
Thanks, Mike
Another great build Drew, the colours that popped out were amazing, i see why you love that wood so much. Oh and i think your dog was making its mark on the table, as his property now ha ha ha.

Loved the outtakes, made me feel normal.
This is absolutely beautiful!!! Wow!!!
Thanks!
Your editing and humour is amazing
As always, awesome! I want all of your tools.
Thanks for sharing your mistakes; all the rest of us make mistakes, too. Loved the table!!
Another beautiful piece.

love your video style , great work on the table
Very nicely designed me and your funny along the way, thank you for the learning comedy
awesome build.....your videos are excellent viewing with your subtle?!? humour.!
How funny, someone else that speaks just like I do. Also, speaks to self the same way. Love it!! Beautiful herringbone pattern on the top of the table.
I really enjoy your humor and can identify with 90% of the blooper reels. Great stuff!
Glad you like them!
That dry humor is great.
Man you were on your absolute comedic A game in this. Bravo sir
That is an absolutely beautiful table . I never really realised just how brethtakingly lovely looking cedar is .The outtakes were great . Clearly your dog does not fully recognise your genius efforts.Ha ha ha .
Thanks so much!
Great work. Hope I can complete this project once I get everything ready. Wonder how it will come together with pocket holes. Loved the bloopers. Woodworking seems relaxing and peaceful. Thank again.
Love the out takes nice to know I'm not the only one making errors, great vid, table is awesome
Great job and love that you share the bloopers. You do some of the very same things I do when I am working.
Wonderful gift idea. I'll use it as a work station.
Beautiful, and functional.
Great project and really cool design. I love all of the dry humor.
Thanks Scott
