I remember when my mom adopted me she had a van with a cassette player. I was 6 years old and no kidding had never seen a cassette tape. I fell in love with them and to this day, I'm almost 32, I still have them
Pro tip from an 80s baby, you can use any cassette to record, you do not have to use a blank one. Put tape over the Write protection notch (there is two), that's it! So, any old tape you find at a thrift store, or a lot on eBay. It's what I did as a kid, because I didn't have a lot of money. The notches are on the very top skinny side, you can also just look up the anatomy of a cassette tape to figure it out 😉.
Up until a few years ago, I had quit using mixtapes, but then I picked them back up out of nostalgia. I have no regrets. The majority of them feature goth music by artists like Clan of Xymox, symphonic, and classical music.
For me, it was The Best Of Metal Blade Vol 3. It had Diamond Head, Nasty Savage, Candlemass, Sacred Reich, Trouble, Fates Warning, Hallows Eve... My first time hearing a lot of those bands.
You’re doing a great job I used to do that stuff when I was a kid do my mixtapes I never thought of decorating and fixing up the cassette itself looks so cool and I love what you do with your hair and I love your T-shirt
This is how we had to make mixes back in the 80s. The other thing I would do is steal a friend's store bought tape of an album, get the CD of the album, and record it back on to their tape in the wrong order, and put it back in the case. My friend thought he was going crazy.
that's so cool you saw iron maiden, I got to see them when I was 12 years old and now I'm 15 and Still so pumped up about it LOL. but love your battle vest and king diamond patch. I love metal so much and this video was awesome to watch, I also love physical copies of dvds, laser discs, vinyl, and cassette tapes. my mum hates me for having satanic bands written and painted all over the walls in my room. also your alice cooper shirt Is badass, so cool. I'm also very connected with the 80s. but LOVE this video and all your music and battle vests. 🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤
Very interesting story, I starting buying Tapes back in 1984, and mention some of the stuff in my "Tapes i bought with out ever hearing the Band" - Rising Metal Tape review Videos. Cool Death Angel shirt & Video.
I've always read about copying tapes like this in metal history books (particularly in relation to 80's thrash metal), but I've never actually seen it done until now, very cool. Also, pristine choices in songs/artists for your mixtape, big props
We have to be the same age... i literally discovered music the same way, love tapes, and my grandparents still have that exact same sony setup. You give me serious childhood nostalgia. I love your room, and I really like your jacket. I know from experience, they take forever to cover in spikes.
I started to record my own music that I came across a walkman and it had two cassette tape on the side and ever since I been listening and recording and here in south Carolina the flea market here has tone on old CDs and cassette tape with bands that I remember listening to when I was a kid in 3th grade and some I never heard but I been collecting ever since and the a real awesome spray paint on the the you did 🤘.
Wow, that was amazing! Thanks, Madi! Man, this was a slingshot back into the past! This is probably gonna be a long, rambly comment. Have you checked out _Cassette Cult_ on BangerTV? Lots of reviews from Sarah Kitteringham (singer for Smoulder - they're killer!) on that playlist, and also on BangerTV's playlist _Overkill Reviews: Sarah Videos_ . So, in the 80s, my brother and I used Maxell, TDK, TEAC for taping. Memorex was around, but I don't recall us using that brand. CrO2 (chromium dioxide) tape was a go-to sometimes. If I remember, the advantage was that it lasted longer over multiple playings, but it compressed the sound more than iron oxide. I could be wrong about this. You also needed a ghetto blaster or tape deck that specified CrO2 in order to be able to record and play back. A couple of veteran Gen X tips: are you lost in a post-apocalyptic wasteland with no tape rewinder? Use a pencil or Bic pen in the sprockets! Also, have you popped out the plastic tabs on the top edge of the cassette and want to record over? No problem! Just tape over the square holes with Scotch tape and it's ready to re-record! 👍
Thank you so much for the idea and inspiration and last but not least for the little tutorial on how to make cassete tape cover. I got some few ideas for my gore-grind project.
_Nice cassette cover art from Gustave Doré..._ _It's also on Emperor's Album Cover,_ _Scattered Ashes: A Decade Of Emperial Wrath_ _...Nice choice in art though !_
Nice! Just got myself a cassette player, and this looks really cool. I actually decided to start collecting tapes because I felt like Metal fits really well together with the cassette music format. I also think it'd be cool to make actual mixtapes.
This is so cool! I’m 17 and right now I collect CDs since they’re way cheap and easy to find, really cool to see the generational difference over time haha
It makes me so happy that you’re a Candlemass fan! I get so much shit from my fiancé for loving them, but how can I not?! 🤣 first time I heard Bewitched I fell in love. This is so cool! You are extremely creative and tech savvy!
@@MadiDangerjust started listening to their music, and so far, what I've heard so far, I can agree. Wasn't really into Doom Metal, but decided to give it a try.
My first real exposure to mix tapes was thanks to my first volunteer work, i was an assistant DJ for a group home activities coordinator , even got to be scare actress for an annual volunteer scare actress for a Halloween event. I got a bunch of tapes and CDs as payment and someone gifted me a boombox. I'd make mix tapes in my spare time.
For better sound try the Maxell , Sony, TDK Chrome High Bias tapes or Maxell Cobalt Metal type ll, lll and type lV tapes. I use to mix a lot of tapes back in the day. These tapes just sound better. But, you have to have the High Bias or Metal tape buttons on your tape player to take full advantage of the better sound quality. Still these tapes just last longer. Keep your tape heads ckean and demagnatized with a tape head cleaner and pinch rollers cleaning kit before recording on your tape players for better sound and your tapes want crinkle up so easy.
Hey, I have been long awaiting a new video! You are right about the difficult with finding Cassette players, I recently looked into it and it turns out that almost all manufactures have completely stopped manufacturing them except for like one company out of Japan. The price of a lot of Cassette Player decks now, even used ones have a high premium, like $300-$500 sometimes because of how rare they are to come across now! I have a couple of old units myself, one still fully working but the others need replacement rubber belts. I see how you are using vintage Sony equipment! I believe that tape deck you have there is from the 80's, those were when all Sony stereo items were made really well, I still run a lot of stuff from that time and they are built to last forever. Your Sony deck is better than the one I have though.
@@MadiDanger You can find dual cassette decks for under 90 bucks by a company called PYLE. I have a dual cassette deck and it not only has RCA but also a USB out so you can record mp3's should you want/need to. Just a suggestion. 93's!
Nice! I collect a lot of cassettes, but I've never tried making one. My dad used to make a lot of cassettes back in the day; maybe I should try to be a second-generation mix tape maker.
I only buy digital downloads in lossless quality. Last year I put my entire music collection on the iPhone. It took some time to rip 400 CDs, but it was worth it. I don‘t have to leave the chair when I want to change the music now ;) Btw: do you like gothic metal (e.g. Theatre of tragedy, The sins of thy beloved, Paradise lost etc.)?
I have music on my phone for convenience, but I’m a lover of physical media and still have a tape/cd deck in my car as well I’m not really big into gothic metal, kinda funny considering I love goth and metal music
could you do a video on how to color a cassette tape cover? Like I saw someone make theirs red for the Weeknds star boy and they used water that was red or something...idk?
I used to buy records looking on back if they wore leather had long hair and had guitars I'd buy it to see if I'd like it , I already heard off quite a few bands but always great to hear new stuff I never heard and found many new bands that way that was 1993 I was 16 and the records were only £1 each from a music shop in Scarborough uk
I made one a while back in what may be considered blasphemy by some and plugged my phone into a boombox and recorded the songs from that. Edit: commented too soon. 😂
Just want to say YES I'd buy some if you made this a business! I would love to make you one day with music I think you'd like, but don't think I can invest on the recording machine atm. Is there a method you like for people to reccomend you music?
Ive did mix Tapes from 1984 - 1992. and done all kinds of stuff, But Never spray painted them. thats a Nice idea BUT Cd's are out & Cassette tapes are almost obsolete.
I dont understand why do people listen to casettes in 2k... Especially by walking on the streets, its so uncomfy to me, to change tapes all the time, to transport a lot of casettes...
@@MadiDanger sound s fair, thats why i pay to music services as youtube music of course there is no ads, i am subscribed on youtube bloggers that check new metal albums and anyway i consume new music. I have Spotify Premium so I haven't had an ad for years and sure it's annoying that some bands aren't there (Holy Moses please get on Spotify) but bands that are there have their whole discography right there without taking up shelf space and a good chunk of my money and sound quality is great which matters a lot to me.
