  • In this video, I'm taking a look at the Crowtail-4G SIM A7670E module that also features a GPS board and it can be accessed with a microcontroller through UART.
To test the board, I made a prototype device with NodeMCU and two push buttons to serve as an Emergency SOS Caller for elderly people or people who might need immediate assistance.
When in need, the user can press the first button on the device to initiate a direct call to the caregiver and start talking once the call is established, or if there is some other issue where they can't talk, they can press the second number and an emergency message will be sent to the caregiver.
The Crowtail-4G SIM A7670E module proved to be really easy to work with and besides providing call and SMS functionality to our projects, it also provides AT command for making HTTP requests, FTP requests as well as MQTT requests.

Can I program the 4G module without Arduino? Can I use only the USB C interface?

Yes you can. By default it works as a 4G modem on the computer and you can interact with it via serial.

@@TasteTheCode Thank you very much. I will try it with my own developed software with Qt. Greetings from Germany.

Great content, I'll be using this as a basis for my emergency contact device. Thanks
    Other ideas for expanded functionality
    1) Ability to automatically 'pick up' the call from the caregiver to speak to the elderly person
    2) Watchdog/automated text to let the caregiver know the system is still functional (maybe once a week)

Thank you! Let me know how it goes! Also, great suggestions, I really like the watchdog suggestion, it is important for any system to know that it is still operational.

Is the usb 5v enough to power the board during a call emission?

    Does the simcom require subscription?

Yes, you need a sim card that is active either by subscription or by prepaid.
