It is possible although it depends to what extent are you willing to sacrifice free time. I would recommend you to go for it and give it your best! It is such a cool subject. Unlike any other stuff covered in school. I have had comments from people that asked me the same thing and managed to study the whole Further Maths in less than a year. Hope that helps! I still owe lots to the subject! Taught me how hard courses can be the most rewarding and exciting!
Hey im unsure of what to do for my future between engineering, computer science or surgeon, so should i pick further maths or should i just pick chemistry instead?
That’s a tough question. Which other subjects are you taking? I would say, in general, that you should take Chemistry before Further Maths. Although, do make sure to check whether your desired engineering course has Chemistry. If you’re thinking on an engineering course separate from Chemistry or on a computer science course, then do take Further Maths instead of Chemistry!
The problem is I am doing my o levels/ gcses and I do not take physics, and I believe that subject is very important for further maths. So can i take it if I don't take physics very worried about that, I do take ad maths (getting A's and B's) but in maths I'm getting straight A*'s, which is why my mother is urging me to consider taking it. I think further maths is a very impressive subject and I just may be able to do it but not sure. Thanks for the informative video!!
I’ve heard of some people that take Further Maths and don’t do Physics. Although it does come in handy and the Mechanics content overlaps Physics A Level, I think it is still possible if you’re willing to. Whether or not you study Physics, the Further content is going to be hard so not doing physics will only make it 5-10% more difficult in my opinion. If I could go back to when I was in Y12, I would have taken Further Maths way more seriously. It’s the hardest though it’s the most life changing and the most enriching and fulfilling to work on. Great video do you think itd be possible for me to do further maths by myself and still get a good grade if i work hard even though i got a 7 in gcse maths
Hi, I think that a good grade in Further Maths (A or A*) is generally only obtained by those that have previously excelled in GCSE. Because you may even get an A/A* in GCSE Maths but then with the jump to A Level some may only manage to get a B/A and in Further that would translate to an E/D. Yo get a good grade in Further you need to excel at the previous levels (GCSE and A Level) and then push super hard in order to nail the Further subject. If you’re willing to take your Maths to the next level and to get real serious then you should definitely do it. At least give it your best before thinking it’s too much for you.

Hi! Further is difficult and heavy workload but that isn’t necessarily bad. It does give you a foundation for the first two years of university level Maths required for Engineering or even Natural Sciences courses. It depends on whether you want to focus on securing really high grades in those A Levels or if you want to take the challenge. If I could I would try to go to Further classes and see how you go about. If you think that it’s not worth the extra effort you just don’t sit the exam but just covering some of the content will be very beneficial for future years! I personally took Further Maths and didn’t really prepare it well as we didn’t have a teacher for Further for most of the time of A levels so we had to improvise it and it was a bit chaotic. It depends on how quickly you’d be able to go through the content. It isn’t impossible but it seems very difficult. You would need to do each component (I have 4: FP1, FP2, Further Mechanics & Further Stats) in just one month. @@Mark-fc1xw Cool! I mainly use gceguide.com for past papers, proatuition.blogspot for topic theory and questions, and random UA-cam videos (mainly from TLMaths)
Ok i reached chapter 3 now. I realised how unlike normal maths, u can't really solve the past paper questions easily, they're much more difficult than the book's questions. They require u to connect the dots and think outside of the box. I'm not sure if all that is true but when i self studied normal maths, the transition from the book questions to the past paper questions was more straightforward and easier. And i also came to know now that i have to cover statistics 2 from normal maths before i start with further statistics. That's so OVERWHELMING
@@Mark-fc1xw Yeah, it’s not easy and quite scary as there’s so much to do! I personally still have to cover the whole Further Mechanics and I need to do thorough revision of FP1 and FP2! For Further Stats I just need to revise and do past papers! Try to approach it day by day and you’ll do more than you ever imagined! And make sure to rest every once in a while!
Further Maths always comes useful for any science (involving math in some way or another). Possibly it is not crucial to have it for Computer Science but it will definitely make you stand out when applying and it will give you an advantage at the Math classes.
hey when did you start studying further math? Did you divide the syllabus into two parts between last year and this year? or did you first start from scratch in year 13?
Last year we went through FP1 and FP2 although some bits were missing. This year we covered the whole Further Stats and we have to do Further Mechanics by ourselves. For me it’s as if I had started from scratch this year except for a few classes from Y12 that I remembered 😅😂

Hi great vid, very informative: I am doubting myself whether or not I can do further maths, it seems very hard. I will probably do economics at university and further maths will help me, but again seems very hard. Did you feel the same way? Anyway, hope your exams went well!
Hi there,
I would definitely recommend you to attend the lessons and see if you are engaged and seem more or less encouraged to keep up with the workload.
Personally, I didn’t put as much time as I would have liked into Further Maths to actually get a top grade but just learning the content made it worth it.
Are you in Y12 or Y13? Couldn’t you be able to drop it if it become too overwhelming?
@@MarioFabelo going into y12, I will try that, thanks! Which did you find harder , eg to revise for and difficulty of content, physics or further maths?
hey i too want to do further maths...but i am confuse that after further maths could i get jobs or not?
@@Faizaeman17 I think further maths helps a lot if u want to do econ or maths at uni however is not required for most.
I want to become data scientist....do u have any information regarding it?
Do you have any advice as I find the text book questions SOO Much easier than the pass papers and for edexcel there isn’t many pass papers available
UA-cam TLMaths.
Proatuition.blogspot.com is an amazing website with all the theory and different topical questions with answers. Although it is meant for CIE it will definitely be useful.
Try to find as many past papers as possible. If the questions sound like a foreign language then focus on deciphering the way to attempt it as questions are usually very similar.
Hope that helps : )
@@MarioFabelo thank you so much
@@Xo-qu3lf Sure! Let me know any other thing I may be able to help you with!!
@@MarioFabelo pro tuition usually does book qns tho, but he certainly helps u understand the core concept imo. However, I have a hard time doing past paper qn since the mark scheme barely provide the necessary steps u need to solve them.
@@orange_penis yeah, I know. That’s the difficulty of Further Maths; learning without being given much help if any at all. It’s tough but it’s also challenging to try to crack the puzzle by yourself!
Hey I'm starting now I got an A* in normal maths and I want to do A Level Further maths. I only have less than 4 months. What do you think? Should i take it?
It depends on how quickly you’d be able to go through the content. It isn’t impossible but it seems very difficult.
You would need to do each component (I have 4: FP1, FP2, Further Mechanics & Further Stats) in just one month.
Getting an A* with that little time will be very difficult but maybe you can get to an A!
You will need to go very intense into it! If you think it’s worthwhile go and try!
@@MarioFabelo ok so I'm planning on solving all the book in one month (I have the same book by the way). Then start past papers what do you think? I'm also self studying the whole thing😂. and I need an A* somehow lol. From your experience do you have any advice (maybe material) on how to study it real quick? Thanks!
And make sure to rest every once in a while!
hi, if i am planning to major in computer science, would further maths be useful?
Further Maths always comes useful for any science (involving math in some way or another). Possibly it is not crucial to have it for Computer Science but it will definitely make you stand out when applying and it will give you an advantage at the Math classes.
Good video
Thanks, Sam : )
hey when did you start studying further math? Did you divide the syllabus into two parts between last year and this year? or did you first start from scratch in year 13?
Last year we went through FP1 and FP2 although some bits were missing. This year we covered the whole Further Stats and we have to do Further Mechanics by ourselves. For me it’s as if I had started from scratch this year except for a few classes from Y12 that I remembered 😅😂
@@MarioFabelo oh nice, since exams are approaching, what is the ultimate schedule for further maths? I am aiming for an A* and I don't know how to prepare, do you think focusing just on past papers now is a good idea?
@@linaabdelshafy6524 Yeah! In the end you want to prepare for answering exam questions! The most you do the most practice you’ll get and you’ll make sure to cover as many different types of questions as possible!
So do past paper questions and if you feel like you don’t know what to do then go back to the book, website (proatution.blogspot.com) or UA-cam (TLMaths) until you get confident with the thought process behind the question!
@@MarioFabelo Ok thank you so much! Goodluck!
@@linaabdelshafy6524 Thank you and let’s crush these exams!!!

hey i too want to do further maths...but i am confuse that after further maths could i get jobs or not? and if i get so what type of jobs we can get plz advice me
Further Maths will definitely give you the opportunity of learning higher level maths than what is included in the A Level Maths syllabus.
If you’re thinking on doing any science/finance related course/career it will definitely benefit you! Hope that helps : )
Thanks for your reply I have another question too
I just recently finished my o levels(IGCSE) and now I am gonna start a levels maths but my question is first I have to do as level and than a level or simply I can move to a level and than on further maths?
Yes I want to become data science...do you have any information regarding data science?
