hey I'm a UBC student studying climate change. Don't feel guilty about the negative pressure surrounding electric cars. Everyone needs to do everything they can to solve the climate crises.
Are you assuming there isn't any truth to the concerns that people raise around electric cars? It's a pretty nuanced discussion that needs to be brought to the overall equation we use to determine our individual impacts on the planet. I'm still on the fence around an electric because of what I know is happening in Bolivia, Australia, Canada, Russia and the United States. Mining the heavy metals required for battery production is not something that can be dismissed as negative pressure. In my opinion Greg is thinking about the immediate threat that climate change will create for all of us and may have the power to ask bigger questions about what our sustainable future is. Hoping he helps shed some light on better practices for all of us.
@@jameswhitesides9546 The concerns around electric cars are 100% valid and I am aware that the solution to solving the climate crises is not to have everyone to buy an electric car. With this being said, shaming others for not being environmentally friendly will NOT contribute to solving the current climate emergency. Part of the solution lies in people like Greg educating others on the causes and impacts of climate change, as well as the mitigation, and adaptation strategies that we can collectively employ. I'd recommend watching Chris Paine's documentary "Who Killed the Electric Car?" or reading Naomi Oreskes "Merchants of Doubt" if you are interested in the biggest reason why we have not been acting on climate change.
@@jameswhitesides9546 Innovation can be messy. Not moving to new technology because of potential side-effects means that you believe the status quo is the best option. On a planet facing a climate emergency we have to try new things. We can all agree that the lithium-ion battery is not the ultimate solution, but unless we try to innovate through it, we won't know what's possible. Have you seen the latest solid-state battery technology? If it works as well in the field as it appears to in the lab, it will completely change the world.
@@nickmantegna9620 I've seen both! And the reality of how electric car design and the lack of real drastic engineering changes to how cars function is beyond depressing.
@@mikedouglas_ agreed that it is a possible alternative for the immediate threat of climate change. And I hope that design and engineering advances are actually released to market in a meaningful manner. My opinion is that electric cars are a bandaid that is being paraded as the answer in rich Western countries. Who will be able to afford solid state batteries in India or Boliv8a or Africa? The places that are experiencing some of the worst effects of climate change are rushing to meet our demand for raw materials to meet a limited number of consumers while we show little to no concern for the 100 or 200 year future. There are better alternatives to current fossil fuel consumption that do not require a new industrial movement towards battery production. Why don't we start with 50mph max speeds on all cars? Why don't we push for 100 mpg minimums?
I started following Greg's adventures during the 2 million foot year, when I was an aspiring ski guide. His athletic achievements where inspiring than, but now his environmental achievements are as inspiring if not more so! What an incredible inspiration.
So glad I found Electric Greg's movie. Like Greg, I am also challenged with living sustainably while pursuing life activities such as endurance sports, making a living, raising a family. Thanks for the inspiration Greg

I wonder if Greg faced unexpected challenges with drop in vehicle mileage/range (other issues) with the cold temperatures? I had the opportunity to travel through Revelstoke along with the NP. Everyone was so kind to us. Brings me real joy that this is your Basecamp. I have installed rain barrels for my family & we are now cooking with solar ovens. Many of the more recent EVs have battery heaters that come on in cold weather. It helps with the range. My Kia Niro only looses about 10-15% in the cold.
Greg - you certainly have inspired so many - including us - seriously - forget the trolls and sometimes the risks aren't worth it, however, living outdoors there are risks all the time. Embracing time outdoors and with family - nothing like it. This is fantastic film.
How inspiring! While this year I started a project called #everysinglesummit that entails climbing the local highpoints from my front door, I never really looked at it from the perspective of reducing my carbon footprint. Now I am and not only that, have begun to think about summits further from home by leg powered means. Thank you so much for creating this!

@@GregHillenterprises - man - just amazed that you even replied - we watch all of your work. I remember when we first heard your name - when we saw "All I Can" - and we immediately looked you up. Since then, we have been a fan. We try to reduce our footprint - though living in NYC, far from where we feel at home, we drive every weekend to and from Vermont and points North. We decided that our next vehicle should be electric- and maybe after our son graduates HS - to move closer to the mountains. Truly you have inspired us and thousands of others. OK we are sure that Mike D will see this and be like - there goes those Alba groupies again. Anyway, thank you - this was a great piece. Seriously, you and your family are hardcore. We aspire to be - and certainly try our best to be.

Amazing feats! So Inspiring! I'm a snow skier from Seattle and I've looked up (or across at if skiing at Crystal Mountain ski resort) at Mt Rainier many a day with glorious amazement at it"s 14,000 foot peaks! And to think you've climbed AND skied down is mind-blowing! BTW have you ever considered eating less meat to help save the planet?
Right about now we're learning one real cost of our constant jet setting vacations......and staying home and finding ways to be sustainable is looking better all the time. We don't want to change our expensive consumer lifestyles....but it's not all up to Greg. Right now, we have nothing to 'prove'. We have a lot of work ahead of us, creating a sustainable world, where we're not constantly running off elsewhere to amuse our bored selves. There's many ways we can grow in place; this is one of them.
As an engineer I feel obliged to ask what's teh carbon footprint of Western Canada's electricity. But besides this nasty question I feel like I have just seen the very first "eco conscious" fillm on this channel. To me we shouldn't try to show going respectfull of the environment is "improving our experience". It is simply a matter or being responsible, juste the same reason why we respect others. That said I have been doing "bike+ski" and "bike+trail" for personal outings and not only it adds this "magic of free effort. It very deeply enlighten the outing because of the confidence that this time it wasn't on the back of our common nutshell. After all it's our generation that will face the disaster we trigger. Happy to see that "carbon free" expeditions and films are getting more numerous and more confident in their purpose. Please Salomon kick your transition, it is surely super late but better now than too late!

Good for him - he's aware of the cost of things like downhill ski resorts or flying to Mexico and he's trying to do something good, which is a lot more than most adrenaline bros can say. Thankfully, the selection of EVs is vastly better today than just a few years ago when this film was made.

I got two questions - 1: what snow tires are you running on your bolt? I don't trust mine. 2: what racks did you use? Fellow bolt owner/skier in Squamish. Don't be discouraged man. I'd say every month the number of ev owners at my office increases. You can use my level 2 any day. People I thought would never do it surprise me all the time.
I use Toyo winter tires, and I drive cautiously. It works though. As for racks I have a thule ski box, and it comes with adapters. It is not perfect but it work well.
Excellent movie and definately inspiring Greg! I try very hard to keep my footprint low, but it certainly is no where near as low as yours. My husband and I have considered buying an EV vehicle but have one major hurdle that would be a hurdle for many millions of people worldwide. It is easy to purchase and EV vehicle when you live in a house, duplex or townhouse. But what about the masses of us that live in apartments and condominiums? We have an underground parkade that has only a handful of power outlets for over 140 stalls and those are not powerful enough to charge EV vehicles because they were installed for electrical to keep pipes from freezing when the temps get cold. We may not even have enough power in the building to allow for many vehicles to be EV (the building is going to get an assessment of that from an engineer). After that report though, it would costs tens of thousands of dollars to install conduit and electrical lines from the electrical room in a concrete underground parkade to various locations in the parking area. Then it would be thousands more for each charging station. Sadly owners of units who are not committed to changing their lifestyles or vehicles do not want to pay huge assessments for others who do want to have EV vehicles. So there is the rub. We cannot even get a majority of the strata council to agree on going in that direction, let alone a majority of the owners of 108 units. That problem would be even worse in larger complexes. So how is it that our type of building is supposed to build in the massive infrastructure required to charge EV vehicles and pay for it when it could cost up to several hundred thousand dollars (depending on what type of system you go for and whether or not you have a power useage/metering system)??!! Will the government pay for it....somehow I do not think so and any incentives will be small and usually only for folks buying the vehicles and not for buildings having to do huge upgrades. I also wonder if there is legislation to enforce that new construction of condos and apartments all have charging stations or at least for a majority of stalls. So this is a really big issue that will be very difficult to solve and will not be a quick one either. I guess EV vehicles will mostly be for the well to do that can afford houses, duplexes or townhouses....sigh :( Our only thought is that someday close to retirement we could sell our condo and move to some very small town where housing is way less expensive than in Victoria where we could have those options. But that still might be stretching our finances too far, especially when you have no private pensions and a small income. Ah darn realities, eh!! Having said all that, I hope those folks that can change to EV will do so, because every little change adds up!
it is an absolute conundrum, and I feel for you.. Initially it may be easier for the "well to do" to change and then that will make everything more affordable and easier in the long run. possibly autonomous ride sharing electric cars might be a way to change. I am unsure but I know that questioning and pushing for change will make it happen.
Honest question, would sticking with the diesel truck instead of buying a whole new car have less of a carbon footprint? I'd imagine the production of the car and the batteries has a large impact, and diesels, even in a truck, can be quite efficient.
There have already been a number of studies done on this. (I don't have the citations readily available to share, but a Google search can probably unearth them.) Over the lifetime of the electric car, it quickly "pays" for itself with the decreased footprint. What would be additionally ideal would be for the diesel truck to be destroyed and not resold to be used, but that's probably not what happened.
@@jflouie It seems like the most environmentally friendly thing to do would be to buy an old economy car from the 80s, the ones that get like 50 MPG, and just drive that. You aren't making a footprint by producing a brand new car, or supporting those companies, and you get insane gas mileage. I'd have to do the math but I think that would be much better for the environment until we find better means of transport. Sometimes I think all these people buying brand new electric cars are getting sponsored and not thinking about the impact entirely, just my 2c.
This journey In your life is amazing and at the same time very questionable to a point that we question ourselves in a sense that you know your not the first to do this there were other whom came before us you should appreciate n respect that n continue challenging yourself in everything that you do so the millennial generation can see is possible
Am I wrong thinking the most sustainable choice, transportation wise, would have been keeping his old pick up for the next 30 years? No one ever thinks what it takes to produce new cars. Isn't, most of the time, keeping your old car running the greenest choice? I'd like to hear someone thoughts on this. Anyhow I admire this guy, he's inspiring.
I love this movie! I thought I was the only crazy person taking my electric car into the mountains on adventures! If you're a nature lover, how could you justify using fossil fuels to get there?
Not gonna lie, inspirational, but it was hard to watch around 7:20. His wife was basically saying he is an absent father and person trying to do this mission. That was actually painful.
you're not alone. The US fertility rate declined 1% between 2018 and 2019, hitting a 35-year-low, according to a report from the CDC. Demographic time bomb predicted by experts when there won't be enough young people to support the economy and ageing population. Add Coronavirus to this, the global decline in birthrates, tighter immigration laws... Another good one to forgo would be a cat or a dog -collectively consuming the dietary equivalent of 1/5th of the US population -or a polluting equivalent of a large size truck per dog annually
Statistically over your entire footprint, not having children is significant. I've made countless other choices as well. I've never owned a dog, but I'm often asked to take care of the animals of those who love me. I'm happy to love animals. I've been a teacher of children. I love being an uncle. I just like to travel however and continue to do so. I've been to Europe multiple times, Asia and to 46 of the 50 states, on my way to climbing my 400th mountain with prominence last Winter, and adding a dozen more since.
A liitle reminder: Electric cars (batteries) just shift the environmental issues from "Europe" to China or Africa, where the mines are... and it leads to children work, soils pollution....etc
No. Irresponsible and corrupted governments lead to child exploitation, pollution and the kind of capitalism that let companies dump toxic heavy metals however they like resulting in countless birth defects etc. And they exist in all industries. We need transport with lower carbon footprint- fossil fuels are still polluting more than electric vehicles. Even if the electricity comes from burning coal.
@@TheBigFrazer Yes the governments are one problem but it's a major fact and in the end, you have to deal with the chemicals somehow. Can you explain to me why electric vehicles are more environmentally friendly? Coal contains less energy than fuel so you need to burn more to get the same results. Plus electric cars are really heavy when you have a normal family-sized car. I don't want to criticize you. I just want to know if I miss something here.

Regular car manufactures suffer the same manufacturing problems you are posing but with the additional pollution during the lifetime. Also: petrol engines are horribly inefficient - about 80% of the energy is converted to heat compared to like 10% for electric engines. Weight is of course problem (more so in petrol cars!) but hardly a dealbreaker. If a car has the range and capacity then weight shouldn't be a problem right?
@@alpinejonny Yes, I watched it he's not saying how it's better than a normal-sized car. @TheBigFrazer thanks for sharing, I know this study with the Nissan Leaf, and I really think electrified small vehicles are the better choice. Here in Germany, most people drive VW Passat kind of cars, and with more weight, you need bigger batteries, and those bigger cars are expected to have a bigger range. Both results in an exponentially bigger battery and more weight. With a petrol engine, this effect isn't that big as you just need to add a bigger tank and maybe 20kgs in fuel weight to get to a higher ranger. For batteries, we're talking about 100kgs plus to reach the same results, and you feel this extra weight whenever a traffic light switches from red to green. I read quite a few studies from 2018 regarding the Tesla Model S, and they said that after 8 years it would be on the same level in terms of pollution as a similar-sized petrol car if the battery lasts that long. The problem is that most of the batteries need to be replaced after 7 years. I also visited a big battery factory in China, and it's terrible how they deal with the chemicals. They have stored barrels of chemicals in front of the factory. The barrels were leaking directly into the ground. The ground wasn't sealed; it was just a parking lot. While the car batteries get recycled as energy storage for houses and companies, you only postponed the problem a little bit. When the storage battery isn't good anymore, you have to remove the chemicals, metals, etc. and that's where it gets dirty and cost-inefficient. I think electrified cars are one part of the solution for cities, but we're not there yet when we talk about long-range vehicles or even trucks like a Dodge Ram or Ford F150. (still curious on the environmental impact of the Tesla Cybertruck)

Too bad that politics entered Banff Festival. "Electric Greg" is one of the worst movies I've seen so far. Very disappointing.
@@charliealgert646 The grid in BC is 98% hydro which is carbon free. In Greg's area it's 100%. Greg also put solar on his house this summer, which should produce enough energy to power his car.
Hilarious that he thinks charging a car isn't using fossil fuels. Most of the electricity in the country is produced by burning fossil fuel (coal) and the fact the fossil fuel is being burned across the state instead of in the internal combustion engine doesn't change the fact it's a fossil fuel car. Add to that the fact that the batteries cost more to produce, use rare earth metals that cost tremendous amounts to mine (and use huge amounts of fossil fuel). I have no issue with electric cars, they're fun to drive, etc, but don't kid yourself that by driving one you're using less fossil fuel. You're not.

Just curious...where does the electricity come from that charges his car? I'm guessing fossil fuels. Literally everything he is wearing, using, riding and driving in this video is made from and through the use of fossil fuels. I'd love to see him climb/run/summit 100 peaks using wooden/leather equipment and horseback or dogsleds, because that'd be the only way he be doing it "without the use of fossil fuels"...
slimigan BC is 95% hydro power. Don’t guess look it up. Even in areas with the highest amount of coal power, an EV is still more efficient than a gas car.
I think I would need to start out naked and then hunt, skin and survive and the then climb the mountains... I dream of a complete carbon free life, but its not possible. What is possible is making changes in your life and searching out how to use less.

Your battery becomes toxic waste at the end of it's lifespan, what happens to 50 million of them? Everywhere in the world does not have 90% Hydro like BC. what then? If everybody in Canada plugged in there car tonight the whole grid would crash, thats a fact, so how much diesel equipment will be burned to build this new infrastructure? Electricity is not FREE get that through your thick skulls. There is only 36 million people in Canada and 7.6 Billion on the planet so do the math. Flying is huge carbon footprint so is your vegetables you eat all week planted and cultivated by a diesel tractor, and then shipped by a diesel truck to your grocery store, what about Monsanto, GMO, CIL, Dow and other chemicals that are sprinkled all over your vegies, and no your not growing enough for a family of 5 in Revelstoke year round. So don't give me meat is killing the Planet BS. The Trains in Canada alone burn more Diesel than you can fathom, to deliver coal, grain, lumber etc. all over the world and then into a ship and millions of more gallons of diesel burnt. Then all those ships come back full of Chinese and Asian gadgets and crap that you use on your adventures and life style made by child labor. Just look at your garbage bins after Christmas? You are still a huge consumer of gluttony. There obviously is not a simple answer or equation to solving our consumer actions that are killing the Planet. I started following Greg's adventures during the 2 million foot year, when I was an aspiring ski guide. His athletic achievements where inspiring than, but now his environmental achievements are as inspiring if not more so! What an incredible inspiration.

Love the solar oven idea.. I absolutely lose range in the winter, probably 30%.
Many of the more recent EVs have battery heaters that come on in cold weather. It helps with the range. My Kia Niro only looses about 10-15% in the cold.
Greg - you certainly have inspired so many - including us - seriously - forget the trolls and sometimes the risks aren't worth it, however, living outdoors there are risks all the time. Embracing time outdoors and with family - nothing like it. This is fantastic film.

While this year I started a project called #everysinglesummit that entails climbing the local highpoints from my front door, I never really looked at it from the perspective of reducing my carbon footprint. Since then, we have been a fan. We try to reduce our footprint - though living in NYC, far from where we feel at home, we drive every weekend to and from Vermont and points North. We decided that our next vehicle should be electric- and maybe after our son graduates HS - to move closer to the mountains. Truly you have inspired us and thousands of others. Right about now we're learning one real cost of our constant jet setting vacations......and staying home and finding ways to be sustainable is looking better all the time. We don't want to change our expensive consumer lifestyles....but it's not all up to Greg. Right now, we have nothing to 'prove'. We have a lot of work ahead of us, creating a sustainable world, where we're not constantly running off elsewhere to amuse our bored selves.
There's many ways we can grow in place; this is one of them.

As an engineer I feel obliged to ask what's teh carbon footprint of Western Canada's electricity.
But besides this nasty question I feel like I have just seen the very first "eco conscious" fillm on this channel.
To me we shouldn't try to show going respectfull of the environment is "improving our experience". It is simply a matter or being responsible, juste the same reason why we respect others.
That said I have been doing "bike+ski" and "bike+trail" for personal outings and not only it adds this "magic of free effort. It very deeply enlighten the outing because of the confidence that this time it wasn't on the back of our common nutshell. After all it's our generation that will face the disaster we trigger.
Happy to see that "carbon free" expeditions and films are getting more numerous and more confident in their purpose.
Please Salomon kick your transition, it is surely super late but better now than too late!

I got two questions -
1: what snow tires are you running on your bolt? I don't trust mine.
2: what racks did you use?

Don't be discouraged man. I'd say every month the number of ev owners at my office increases. You can use my level 2 any day. People I thought would never do it surprise me all the time.
I use Toyo winter tires, and I drive cautiously. It works though. As for racks I have a thule ski box, and it comes with adapters. It is not perfect but it work well.

Excellent movie and definately inspiring Greg! I try very hard to keep my footprint low, but it certainly is no where near as low as yours. My husband and I have considered buying an EV vehicle but have one major hurdle that would be a hurdle for many millions of people worldwide. It is easy to purchase and EV vehicle when you live in a house, duplex or townhouse. But what about the masses of us that live in apartments and condominiums? We have an underground parkade that has only a handful of power outlets for over 140 stalls and those are not powerful enough to charge EV vehicles because they were installed for electrical to keep pipes from freezing when the temps get cold. We may not even have enough power in the building to allow for many vehicles to be EV (the building is going to get an assessment of that from an engineer). After that report though, it would costs tens of thousands of dollars to install conduit and electrical lines from the electrical room in a concrete underground parkade to various locations in the parking area. Then it would be thousands more for each charging station. Sadly owners of units who are not committed to changing their lifestyles or vehicles do not want to pay huge assessments for others who do want to have EV vehicles. So there is the rub. We cannot even get a majority of the strata council to agree on going in that direction, let alone a majority of the owners of 108 units. That problem would be even worse in larger complexes. So how is it that our type of building is supposed to build in the massive infrastructure required to charge EV vehicles and pay for it when it could cost up to several hundred thousand dollars (depending on what type of system you go for and whether or not you have a power useage/metering system)??!! Will the government pay for it....somehow I do not think so and any incentives will be small and usually only for folks buying the vehicles and not for buildings having to do huge upgrades. I also wonder if there is legislation to enforce that new construction of condos and apartments all have charging stations or at least for a majority of stalls. So this is a really big issue that will be very difficult to solve and will not be a quick one either. I guess EV vehicles will mostly be for the well to do that can afford houses, duplexes or townhouses....sigh :( Our only thought is that someday close to retirement we could sell our condo and move to some very small town where housing is way less expensive than in Victoria where we could have those options. But that still might be stretching our finances too far, especially when you have no private pensions and a small income. Ah darn realities, eh!! Having said all that, I hope those folks that can change to EV will do so, because every little change adds up!
it is an absolute conundrum, and I feel for you.. Initially it may be easier for the "well to do" to change and then that will make everything more affordable and easier in the long run. possibly autonomous ride sharing electric cars might be a way to change. I am unsure but I know that questioning and pushing for change will make it happen.

Honest question, would sticking with the diesel truck instead of buying a whole new car have less of a carbon footprint? I'd imagine the production of the car and the batteries has a large impact, and diesels, even in a truck, can be quite efficient.
There have already been a number of studies done on this. (I don't have the citations readily available to share, but a Google search can probably unearth them.) Over the lifetime of the electric car, it quickly "pays" for itself with the decreased footprint. What would be additionally ideal would be for the diesel truck to be destroyed and not resold to be used, but that's probably not what happened.
@@jflouie It seems like the most environmentally friendly thing to do would be to buy an old economy car from the 80s, the ones that get like 50 MPG, and just drive that. You aren't making a footprint by producing a brand new car, or supporting those companies, and you get insane gas mileage. I'd have to do the math but I think that would be much better for the environment until we find better means of transport.
Sometimes I think all these people buying brand new electric cars are getting sponsored and not thinking about the impact entirely, just my 2c.

No. Producing a car is only a few percent of its environmental impact. Scrapping that truck is a huge win.

Statistically over your entire footprint, not having children is significant. I've made countless other choices as well. I've never owned a dog, but I'm often asked to take care of the animals of those who love me. I'm happy to love animals. I've been a teacher of children. I love being an uncle. I just like to travel however and continue to do so. I've been to Europe multiple times, Asia and to 46 of the 50 states, on my way to climbing my 400th mountain with prominence last Winter, and adding a dozen more since.
A liitle reminder: Electric cars (batteries) just shift the environmental issues from "Europe" to China or Africa, where the mines are... and it leads to children work, soils pollution....etc

Can you explain to me why electric vehicles are more environmentally friendly? Coal contains less energy than fuel so you need to burn more to get the same results. Good article addressing your concerns. Regular car manufactures suffer the same manufacturing problems you are posing but with the additional pollution during the lifetime.
Also: petrol engines are horribly inefficient - about 80% of the energy is converted to heat compared to like 10% for electric engines.
Weight is of course problem (more so in petrol cars!) but hardly a dealbreaker. If a car has the range and capacity then weight shouldn't be a problem right?

@TheBigFrazer thanks for sharing, I know this study with the Nissan Leaf, and I really think electrified small vehicles are the better choice. Here in Germany, most people drive VW Passat kind of cars, and with more weight, you need bigger batteries, and those bigger cars are expected to have a bigger range. Both results in an exponentially bigger battery and more weight. With a petrol engine, this effect isn't that big as you just need to add a bigger tank and maybe 20kgs in fuel weight to get to a higher ranger. For batteries, we're talking about 100kgs plus to reach the same results, and you feel this extra weight whenever a traffic light switches from red to green.
I read quite a few studies from 2018 regarding the Tesla Model S, and they said that after 8 years it would be on the same level in terms of pollution as a similar-sized petrol car if the battery lasts that long. The problem is that most of the batteries need to be replaced after 7 years.
I also visited a big battery factory in China, and it's terrible how they deal with the chemicals. They have stored barrels of chemicals in front of the factory. The barrels were leaking directly into the ground. The ground wasn't sealed; it was just a parking lot. While the car batteries get recycled as energy storage for houses and companies, you only postponed the problem a little bit. When the storage battery isn't good anymore, you have to remove the chemicals, metals, etc. and that's where it gets dirty and cost-inefficient.
I think electrified cars are one part of the solution for cities, but we're not there yet when we talk about long-range vehicles or even trucks like a Dodge Ram or Ford F150. (still curious on the environmental impact of the Tesla Cybertruck)

@@charliealgert646 The grid in BC is 98% hydro which is carbon free. In Greg's area it's 100%. Greg also put solar on his house this summer, which should produce enough energy to power his car.
I live below a 400foot tall dam, and built a roof for my solar next summer.

Hilarious that he thinks charging a car isn't using fossil fuels. Most of the electricity in the country is produced by burning fossil fuel (coal) and the fact the fossil fuel is being burned across the state instead of in the internal combustion engine doesn't change the fact it's a fossil fuel car. Add to that the fact that the batteries cost more to produce, use rare earth metals that cost tremendous amounts to mine (and use huge amounts of fossil fuel). I have no issue with electric cars, they're fun to drive, etc, but don't kid yourself that by driving one you're using less fossil fuel. You're not.

I think I would need to start out naked and then hunt, skin and survive and the then climb the mountains... I dream of a complete carbon free life, but its not possible. What is possible is making changes in your life and searching out how to use less.
