Good video. I just bought a Shimano Stradic 1000 HG FM reel and a St. Croix 6' Ultralite rod for Trout and Crappie fishing. Hopefully, it works like I hope it will.
I have both the 3000 Vanford and Stradic I can not fault either, funny enough the extra weight felt better on my favourite 8.6 Bass rod so it’s horses for causes. Great reviews 👍
Damn I just ordered older 1k stradic from a good sale.. Almost went for a vanford but did not like the feel as much. Maybe I'll get the new stradic to replace my 3k nasci.
To my knowledge, they all feature the cross carbon drag in the FM model. I could not find any literature or anything in the manual that says otherwise.
Great review. I got a 4000 FL for $100 USD in japan. I still want a 5000 FM. I fished for along time but don't know much about the science. Will I be missing the higher drag. I just upgraded from the Penn 420 something series. The reel will be used on my 8ft and 11ft with 10 pound line. I usually catch 5 to 8 pound Oio/Papio from shore.
NIce review! I also watched your review on the 2020 Twinpower. Do you think it's still superior to the new Stradic? In other words, is it still worthwhile to spend the extra money on the Twinpower? Thanks.
Great review, left a like and a sub. There aren’t many reviews on this reel yet so I appreciate it. I’m deciding between the Vanford and Stradic FM (2500) to pair with a 6’10 ML Expride for dropshots and neds. Which one would you choose? I know the Vanfords more likely to balance on the rod better, but I don’t want to pay more for a lighter weight if the Stradic FM is going to perform better. Thanks in advance
Nice review the question i want to ask you is worth to get the double prized twin power instead of this stradic? I own tp fd pg 4000 and the stradic 4000fk...
The twin power is a great reel! It’s very subjective when asked if it is worth it… IMO, the stradic can do anything other high end reels can do however, the TP offers more power and in a more premium package.
so where would we go to get some deals? i want to get a 5000, i already have a 4000 and they are so similar but i love the stradic so much so why not..
If price is not an issue, i would go with the Sustain - it is a little better however, the Stradic is a better value with it only retailing at $219.99.
The original sustain good the newer versions have plastic feel, less smooth and some have issues with bail snap.. think the stradic and vanford best at that part of range, then for heavier fishing twinpower, Stella etc. If you want light vanford, slightly tougher but great all rounder stradic
The Stradic FL can be found on sale! Seen it for $150 free shipping! Could get lucky and find a place with no tax. The Stradic FL C3000 is a great tube reel!
I am a big fan of all of the reels you mentioned. If i had to buy one right now, it would be the Stradic FM. It is smoother than the Vanford and comes in at around $40-$50 cheaper.
Twinpower is superior to the Stradic FM. Its smoother, more crisp and outperforms the Stradic FM in every fashion. Did i also mention that its lighter than the Stradic?
My Daiwa Legalis, and Daiwa Regal are about 80 and 60 dollars and their smoothness in all areas are comparable to my buddy's shimano Stradic FL. We got our reels at the same time and i thought his shimano price point was comparable to my daiwa and he thought my daiwas price point was comparable to his stradic. He told me his stratic fl ran him 220 dollars and my jaw dropped. Then i told him my regal was only 60 and he could not believe it. Performance wise and when it comes to smoothness we really can't tell a difference. I do prefer the grip style on the stradic's handle but the daiwa gives you more purchase. Don't ever think that price has anything to do with performance. Oftentimes the performance is the same but the technology used on and in the expensive one drives up the price.
The reason why most Shimano reel is smoother and than other brand is because most of Shimano reel oscillation system is use worm gear oscillation instead locomotive gear
I agree. The older Stadic's were definitely a little bit more rough when it came to being smooth. The Stradic FM solves that issue - give it a try when you are at your local tackle shop. I actually find the Stradic FM to be smoother than the Vanford.
Thanks for asking. The body and rotor material is metal. However, there are a couple of plastic inserts around the rotor and body but it is a hagane body - meaning that it is made out of shimano's aluminum/magnesium
This reel is solid. I would say there are other reels that i would consider a baby stella, like the vanquish, but its nice to see reels in the $200 have some of the technology brought down from the flagship reel.
To be honest, the reel's weight didn't bother me at all. It's not an Exist where it is lighter than a feather, but it wasn't anything i noticed that would be bothersome. It was just right and fit the weight of a $200 price point reel.
But how light? Do you even balance your rod with it? Is this like phones that competed which would be thinner? At some point it doesn't make sense to go to the extreme.
Why would you buy a fresh water spinning real that doesn't have a anti- reverse switch on it. Being able to back wind is one of the great benefits of a spinning real when using light line,
@TJ89741 shimano most overpriced model .. i had 4. All gone bad in fresh water only perch fishing. Bearings worn out .. line roller hold 3 weeks then rhe sounded like a bad car.. used bantamoil .only 1 drop. And they went worse.. crap bearings in vanford budget ones.. plastic gears into aluminium on a plastic body that all screws to easy damaged .. to mych tolarance in the gears . Handle play was a joke after only 1 week ..vanford is just as crap as daiwa fyego lt .. the ultwgra is a better choice . Inside same gears and bearings as the sustain FJ...exept the sideplate aheild is the same as on vanford... suustai. has same system in sideplate as rhe twinpower. I hate to say this ..even abu garcia reel for 120 euro has better bearings And NO PLAY ON THE HANDLE ARM.. BUT THE REEL IS A JOKE .. REVOX2000 METALIC BODY AND CARBON WASHERS IN THE SPOOL.. BUT TYE REEL HAS TO MUCH FEELING OF GOING BACKWQRDS.. I tried one for a month.. now its in parts for the bearibgs. Same size as shimano .. but BETTER QUALITY...
Thank you for watching, or attempting to watch. I take feedback seriously so if there is something that you didn't like, I would liked to know. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion.
I quit buying Shimano spinning reels when they eliminated the anti-reverse switch. Any true spinning reel fan will never use the drag on a spinning reel because of the line twist that it causes. Back reeling is the only good way to fight a fish. Can't understand why Shimano did such a stupid cost cutting move. I'm all Dawia and Pflueger from now on.
Good observation but i have not had any issues with any line twist with my shimano reels. I have had models like the Sedona, Sierra, Stradic, Vanford, Twin power and even the Stella. Which models have you used in the past that cause this issue?
Just so you know the anti-reverse gimmick, it’s actually a weak point and a negative to the anti-reverse clutch ball bearing, Shimano have been getting complaint about this, to resolve it they (Shimano) simply remove it and the problem resolved, they don’t do because they want to; they did it due complaints. So I have been use Shimano fishing stuff for decade and servicing my own reel and I actually glad/happy with the the decision Shimano made, but to you average user you wouldn’t understand at all
I have both the 3000 Vanford and Stradic I can not fault either, funny enough the extra weight felt better on my favourite 8.6 Bass rod so it’s horses for causes. Great reviews 👍

The old one is still a great deal - especially when you get it on sale. Enjoy!
Me too I like the feel of the stradic better but I pick up a vanford too
the best reel for the money !
Agreed!
In the FL only the 3000 and up had the carbon drag. Does the FM have the cross carbon drag on all the sizes?
To my knowledge, they all feature the cross carbon drag in the FM model. I could not find any literature or anything in the manual that says otherwise.

Great review! Where can we buy it online?
Hey Steve, thanks for watching! I purchased mine on Tacklewarehouse.com. They are more readily available each day at other retailers as well.
Just bought the C5000XG and it has huge play in handle and in spool. I'm thinking on returning this reel.😢
That's unfortunate. Still have my 2500 and its going strong! Just took it on it's 2nd North Dakota trip.
That fin was not about neat line, it's to catch a slack and it's very useful in windy situation
Duo purpose :)

Is the stradic fm waterproof? Safe when accidentally dropped on saltwater?@@ChewyThaoFishing
Good for striped bass fishing? Thinking of pairing a 4000 w/ a 7’ medium heavy
Yes - absolutely
That’s what I use 3500 Penn for off shore 7.6 and 7’ 4 k inshore rod for strippers
Stradic FL and now FM is built for big game fish. Power vs lightweight
so where would we go to get some deals? i want to get a 5000, i already have a 4000 and they are so similar but i love the stradic so much so why not..
I am loving Stella sw❤ I have Stella sw 4000 hg ❤❤❤
Do you by any chance know the size difference between the stradic fm 2500hg and the nasci 4000?
nasci is significantly heavier - roughly 2 ounces more but it has more drag due to it being a 4000 size.
I've got.the Shannon 3000 sedona
So far I love it Japan made
Shimano.
Hey thanks for your great video. I can’t decide between Sustain FJ 4000 or the Stradic FM 4000, maybe you can help. Thanks a lot!

Stradic vs Saragosa? I kinda lean towards Stradic because it weighs less..I would use it for shore jigging
Stradic!
What braid line do you have on there. Wondering the lb and yards you spooled. Thanks!
20lb suffix 832. Not sure how much exactly however.
@@ChewyThaoFishing I have 20lb braid as well on my stradic. What lb is your flouro leader? Thanks

Depends on what you plan to use it for. I use 20lb suffix braid with a 8lb leader.
Would this be to much for fishing lakes and ponds I don’t live near the cost but I have some pretty big lakes near me
Absolutely not! Fish in style anywhere you go!

Can the Stradic FM fishing reel be used for saltwater?
Can you swap the handle over to a right hand side
Yes, you absolutely can!

Which you will choose, Shimano sustain fj or shimano stradic fm
I think the Sustain is still superior but with the recent upgrades in the Stradic FM, it is very close.
