I heard talk on the street saying this engine’s valves do not hit the pistons, but they may hit each other.

@@catlady8324 That's what the manual says. If you need to move the cams independently don't force anything if it's not wanting to move freely. At these slow speeds you're not going to damage anything if the valves do touch. You can also align the cams with the head off so you can see the valves.
