- In 1969 Linda became the first-ever African American female to appear at the Grand Ole Opry, to perform her big hit "Color Him Father". She also released an album on Plantation, entitled "Color Me Country". But 7 years earlier she was releasing girl group tunes such as "A Little Tear (Was Falling From My Eyes)", b/w "Things I Do For You" - on Fire 512.
Thank you Mr. Watson for sharing.
You are very welcome.
Linda Martell's 1970 lp, Color Me Country was re-released in 2022 by Sun Records. It's on ebay. It is orange vinyl.
Had no idea she had done an album. Will have to check that out.
@@wally1435 Did you know Linda Martell was the first black female on the Grand Ole Opry? Her lp has songs like "Color Him Father" and "Sanfransico is a lonley Town".
@@donaldewert2332 Yes, I knew that (I had listed it as part of the description - under the video - when I first uploaded this track, but I wasn't aware of her LP or any of the songs on it). Thanks for the updates.
Awesome song and artist. Can't believe "I" keep finding more gems ; ). I'm going to have to trawl through all your girl group uploads. This and a Barbara Jackson song were just brilliant. Great work, thanks
You are welcome. :-)

Stunning info. I'm a British 60's Soul fan and I bought this years ago. What a track! Postings like yours make UA-cam so unique!
@dvanhulst Hello there...thanks for giving us the additional information, including the fact yu were bass player. It's a great song, thanks for your contribution to it.
Thanks.
Glad you enjoyed it.
I remember when I was in high school and I walked into Selfway and Ms. Linda was in their singing. She sounded so beautiful. Paco had always told me his mom could sing. I knew his sister could sing too.
Love ❤️ cuz!

Thanks for the comment. That track was made 50 years ago...I was 15 yrs. now 65! Seems like just yesterday. I loved her voice, I always wondered why she didn't pursue her career further.
I was in the studio up on Shakespere Rd. in Columbia, SC the night these recordings were made. I think it was Homer Fesperman's studio. Big Foot Saul and Charlie Derrick from WOIC radio were producers. I played the bass.
Hi. Thanks for the comment & rating!
Thanks for commenting; appreciated.
@dvanhulst It might be 50 years old, but it sure as hell knocks the spots off the majority of stuff coming out nowadays! You just can't beat good old 60's girly sounds!
Thanks for the nice comment.
Tell her "hi" for us & that she is remembered!!!!
that i'm aware of, she doesn't I'm in Florida now at Full Sail University for school. And she's like a grandmother to me because my family was close to hers...etc you can probably understand how that works. But last time that we spoke she said that she writes still but I'm not completely sure if she's still recording. Next time I talk with her i'll ask and then i'll let you know.
Nice comment.
This track came out on FIRE 512 , Bobby Robinson`s New York label.....I wonder if David remembers the piano player.
@RitaPopcorn You are very welcome.
@traintogirlstown you are welcome.
No, redtub07, I don't live in Columbia anymore. I have lived all over the world since those days. I really liked Linda and was hoping to watch her star rise...she obviously had more passion for other things.
What a voice!! Too bad she retired so early.
@cmlbob I guess you have to be really driven to want to make showbiz your life - it can be dissappointing to some, I think & they'd rather concentrate on something else. But, it's our loss, isn't it.
