I started crying when you said that "nobody should be shushing you in labor" because I had two nurses shush me in the triage (as well as being incredibly rough with the cervical check) and it's ultimately what caused me to not be able to cope with my contractions anymore and get an epidural. There is nothing wrong with getting one, but I fully believe that had they not done that, and encouraged me instead, I may have been able to cope at least a little longer. It still causes me embarrassment and distress to this very day.
Last year I had a nurse that kept shaming me for drinking coffee during my pregnancy. She told me that was son was withdrawing from caffeine because he would shake his arms when he was upset and crying. He still does that 1.5 years later. She made the whole experience miserable for me, made me cry.
Very gratefull for my mum and dad right now for letting me grow up in an environment where bodily functions weren't taboo at all. I think it'll make my labour in March aloooooot less embarassing!
Hi, Nurse Zabe! I would be curious to learn what the differences are between the many different titles (L&D nurse, CNM, doula, OBGYN, lactation consultant etc.) that an expecting mom may interact with throughout pregnancy and delivery. A comparison of these as well as the educational and certification steps would be a great video, if you don't have a video for this already. Love your videos and how supportive you are.
OMG, I'd totally forgotten about how much I farted after my epidural. 🥴 As for eating, my Dr. had no problem with me eating during labor. In fact, she encouraged it. I did have one older nurse try to take the tray away from me as I was eating, claiming that "It's against the rules." She refused to believe my husband or myself when we told her that my Dr. told me I could eat. Thankfully, another nurse came in and told her that I was absolutely allowed to eat. I even ended up having a c-section, but they didn't make me wait after eating. EDIT: How did I forget?! - The nurse who tried to take my food away also told the anesthesiologist how he should be performing my epidural. Like, he told me what position to get in, and she said, "It's better to do it this way" and proceded to move me into a completely different position. Then, once that was done and he left the room, she took the button from me and pushed it 4 times, saying, "You're going to want a good dose initially." (I didn't need or want that much.) Her actions caused my BP to bottom out. 😑 My husband and I didn't know if it was ok to ask for her to stay out of my room, so we kept quiet. I'm pregnant with my second now and I will not let that happen again. I will definitely speak up.

I definitely outed myself when I pooped during pushing lol. Multiple times. I had an epidural but I could tell when I was pooping and when they wiped me. I said NOOOO DID I JUST POOOOP!? Everyone was like haha yup! Good job!
Thank you for your videos! I've watched so many of your videos in the last month of my pregnancy they were so informative! I just had my sweet baby girl one week ago today. Lily Elizabeth was born so fast I didn't even have time to use any of the techniques in your videos 😅. My water broke and after an hour of active labor the urge to push came hard and fast. My midwife almost didn't make it! 2 hours total of labor and pushing and my sweet girl was in my arms! The most amazing thing that I've ever experienced! ❤️
Yay for amazing birth experiences and naming your baby after me! (😂😂😂 I am 100% kidding!) I hope going in with more knowledge and less fear made things feel less overwhelming even if it was fast. 💗
Wow, thank you for all you said about food during labor and being so so supportive. You’re truly an amazing human and nurse. I wish I knew that too before my birth. Thankfully I took snacks. Also on the nurse thing, I asked for a nurse change and they didn’t listen to me. When she first walked in, she did things that sent me into what I can call a pain attack. I was day 2 post csec. I was hyperventilating, beginning to feel numb and just so so bad cramping. We called a nurse, she came in and when she saw me, she went running and was actually concerned for me. I asked for a different nurse and they just spoke with her and sent her back. It wasn’t nice at all. At least she was a bit more careful when she came back
My friend had a baby a year ago and she said she couldn't stop apologizing to the hospital staff for everything... I didn't understand what she meant at the time, but I am starting to get the picture :) It is so good to know that these things are normal and I won't have to apologize over and over if I am ever in that position.

Hi there! I was wondering if you could touch on a thought about that medical autonomy. While you are absolutely wonderful and accommodating, some other medical professionals are not (lol.) Do you have any tips on how we can exercise our medical autonomy with those who tend to make us feel bad about doing so? I'm very much a "rule follower" but with my first I just had instincts on when to go/not to go to the hospital and the nurse was so demeaning. Also I feel like in labor/delivery we feel so vulnerable and inferior to the professionals in the room so we just sit and obey what they say even if we absolutely feel differently or even know differently. I can elaborate if you need it but i feel like you get my gist. Thanks for caring so much about your patients and your UA-cam community! We love you!
I told my team I was going to try to poop while pushing. I was constipated, and needed to go. They were pretty excited that I was leaning into it to get the baby out.
My first son I labored for 28 hours and his big head made it impossible to pee but my full bladder made it impossible for him to descend further. I got a catheter and my nurse collect 1.5 L of urine! I felt amazing with that release and my son was born shortly after.

Dear Elisabeth, your comb hack out of your labor toolbox just saved my day and helped me to make it untill lunch at work (nursing home, administration). And I'm not even pregnant. A few days ago I hurt myself while carrying the old and broken dishwasher downstairs. A really bad and nasty scratch on my thigh. Not dangerous and not deep but it hurts like all hell! I was wearing pants and the pressure they made on the wound was crazy painfull. I obviously don't have a comb on my desk at work, but the big ruler worked just fine! I've taken proper care of the scratch right from the start, I asked a coworker for instructions and had the pharmacist have a look at it and give me the proper tools to take care of it the next morning.
@@Nurse_zabe for now I'm using patches with a medication allready applied to them as they are packaged. I will end up with an ugly scar in that place. A part that scratched me somehow pushed a part of my skin to the side and losened it, not sure how to describe it. As of today the wound has finally somewhat closed and the inflamed area has gotten smaller. There is so much value in the tipps you give, thank you so much for all your great work!

I didn't want anyone around me and just got really annoyed with my labor nurses. I just wanted to be left alone. Not sure if that's normal or just because I'm pretty introverted. I'm so happy I had the baby with no one there but the labor nurse, because she didn't realize I was having it so she barely caught it. (She said I could start pushing, guess she didn't realize I don't mess around and would only need like 2 pushes... haha). That was my first baby, and I was in a bit of shock anyway since he unexpectedly came over a month early. I'm due again in October and really just wish I could have the baby by myself. My husband can be there, too. Is that weird? 😬
I was in the vibe zone so hard with my first nurse, Emilee. She was so amazing and I totally clicked with her. When she had to leave it broke my heart! I really didn't like my next nurse, AmberLee, and was still a little sad about losing Emilee so I was biased against her from the minute I met her. I felt AmberLee was too bossy, loud, pushy and had more of a manic energy...Skip to time to push and I couldn't have done it without her. We were a little like oil and water at first but she brought out my inner warrior and I wanted to fight her as much as get to see my son! I guess I'm just saying that a "friend" of a nurse may have let me take it easier when this old war horse saw the times that I needed to engage my mama bear.
This is a good question. I am due in a few days with my 3rd and breastfed my first 2. It never felt sexual to me. I would think it has to do with the hormones happening when breastfeeding happens. Curious if there is an official answer.
The best way I could describe it , not sexual, but definitely, definitely when the milk let's down, a feeling of euphoria in some people that's pleasant. But not sexual. Best wishes to you.
In regards to heightened senses: I brought several calming scented things to L&D(love that stuff normally), practiced all kinds of pain relief and comfort/distraction/relaxation things with my doula and partner. And I could NOT stand any of it during my labor. Scents made me feel worse, couldn't stand being touched during contractions, and the smell of my partner's dinner resulted in him eating in the bathroom, and even still it made me puke. All I could do was horse breathing and lean on a ball 😂
My husband and I jumped the gun on intimacy when I was almost 4 weeks post C-section. I had PPROMed weeks before delivery and we were both desperate. Suffice it to say it was minimally effective and excruciatingly painful. 572/10 do not recommend! I cannot stress it enough.

I know you talk about getting embarrassed around people you don't know, but I would even be embarrassed doing some of the taboo things in front of my partner :') I am going to have to share all these things with him so he's prepared too.
I'm still ticked a year later after getting told "calm down it's going to get worse" while I was in transition. Obviously it didn't and she was the charge nurse and didn't leave when I asked her to.
When I was induced with my first they wouldn't let me eat even in early labor and it was torture. I was so hungry and felt like I had no energy to push but I did end up pushing baby out anyway. Still sucked being told I am not allowed to eat sucked. I wish you were my labor nurse
I think I would've been like "whelp guess you'll have to kick me, a woman ABOUT TO PUSH OUT A BABY, out into the street, because I'm eating something right now!!"
I had the exact same experience. I felt so weak after not eating for over 24 hours. Labor was so hard not having the power of food. They only let me have two apple juice boxes.
I had the worst nurses except for one. Wish I knew this, because one never gave me my pain meds in her entire 8 hour shift and when I asked the second time I saw her, 8 hours later she rolled her eyes like it was my fault. Never again!
I am super allergic to some fragrances (it's part of my food allergies) so it scares me that I will be exposed to it when I have my baby. So defusers being used by my neighbor scare me.
I was between 4-7 cm for over 24 hrs on pitocin for a medically indicated induction. Boy was I glad I had prepped homemade broth. Ginger chicken and lemon garlic saved me.

Me when I pooped lol. "AM I POOPING!" the nurse looked like... hm Just like she didn't want to upset me "just a little bit" me "YOU KNOW WHAT I DONT GIVE A DAMN GET THE BABY OUT OF ME!" I thought I would care so much but in the moment I really gave 0 f*** lol. I also didn't smell anything by my sons dad said all of labor didn't smell good.
My last birth was a precipitous labor that ended in an unintentional freebirth in my living room. Instinctively I did it all virtually silently. My other kids were asleep upstairs and I was afraid that they would wake up if they heard me and venture downstairs to investigate the noises. If it would have been something planned then the process and possibilities would have been explained to them beforehand. Since this was not the case, I didn't want them to be traumatized walking in on that 😵
@@Nurse_zabe I also instinctively went downstairs to my living room that has hardwood flooring because I'd just bought my house about a month prior and didn't want to ruin the new carpet 😅 Crazy things that we think of under pressure.
Just finished seeing this video. 👍🏼 I just have a question. Why do the nurses push down on your stomach after labor? They did that to me and I never really asked them. Thank you for posting this video!
Hi is it normal to still have irregular periods 7 months post birth? My daughter was born at 29 weeks so although she is 7 months nearly 8 she is 6 months corrected. I have periods but my cycle is anything from 30 to 40 days. Is this normal? I exclusively pump so as far as i am aware this is not the same hormones that are involved when ex breastfeeding regarding delaying periods and ovulation. Please help my gp was no help at all. ps my darling daughter is named Elizabeth. Lots of love from the uk xx
The no food thing is no joke. I went in for an induction and was told I couldn't have anything. The nurse was really nice and brought me crackers and peanut butter but I couldn't have any food after that.
It really is no joke. I was also induced and so hungry! when they finally brought me graham crackers and orange juice after I finally delivered 50 hours later, they were the best snacks I've ever had haha
@@taraszydlowski625 mine ended in C-section and I wasn't allowed actual food until after I passed gas. I hadn't had any actual food since Friday night and by Sunday morning I was over sprite and jello. Had the best waffle of my life that morning.
Yeah, that’s absolutely crazy! And even after a cesarean we now have people drinking and chewing gum before they even exit the PACU (recovery room). We’ve got a whole new protocol to reduce post-op nausea!
I feel like the thing that made me take so long to push the baby out was I was so scared to poop and scared the pushing felt like pooping. I’m someone who doesn’t like to poop when anyone is around me near my bathroom even at home lol. Eventually I had to get over it so my baby could just be born. I did poop a little nugget just like you said lol the nurse was so quick to clean it but I did faintly notice when it happened but she moved it so fast it was only there for like one second.
So I'm giving birth in SIngapore, and I saw that on the list of the process of delivery at the hospital, that prior to going to the delivery suite, you would have an enema. I am...mostly I think cool with this, but having never had one before, am abit nervous as to how unpleasant it might be, esp considering I will be in labor. But...will take away that fear I guess. Ooh but now that u mention the how fecal microbiota aspect...now am a little concerned bub won't get that... It does kind of surprise/amuse me that for so many ppl the pooping thing it their biggest fear 😅
i wasn't loud when i was having my contractions, until i had my last one before giving birth, i was shouting like i was in hell i couldn't shut up 🤣 after that my water broke and i pushed and gave birth to my beautiful daughter, she's 5 months now
I just have to say pooping was the last thing on my mind. I did not care. I did tell the doctor I was sure I’d be the first person she’s seen poop out their baby. 😂
I pooped during my 2nd … wouldn’t have even known if it hadn’t been for the fact that they didn’t clean me up well and I ended up with a butt rash by the time I figured it out … over 12 hours later. I was rather annoyed.

I’m not sure if I pooped either time but I know I asked the second time (unmedicated)😂 I wish I would’ve ate the first time. The second time I ate a few hours before delivery and threw it up 🤢 First birth wanted unmedicated low intervention but ended up with medicated and traumatic 😥 Second birth unmedicated and went much better ! I was pretty quiet the first time and HOLLERING the second 😂

I didn't have a very positive birth experience. I was so chill going into it. I didn't have a birth plan or anything. All birthing classes were cancelled due to covid. So although I thought I knew a lot going into it. I quickly realised I knew nothing. My water broke at 2 am after 2 hours of mild contractions, I was a week early thought they might be braxton hicks . My waters were a bad colour, so my husband called the hospital and they told us to come in. I thought water breaking was like it is on the movies, one gush and your done.. Nope it keeps going till you have the baby! Extremely wet pants in he middle of winter, not nice. Once at the hospital they told me due to my waters breaking and the colour I had to give birth in the next 24 hours. I was just agreeable, went along with everything. They put me on Pitocin straight away. My contractions were so manageable and then suddenly went to extremely intense, every 30 seconds. I had no idea that this would happen. I stopped dilating to at 2cm. My husband left, he couldn't cope seeing me in pain. My mum took 4 hours to get to the hospital (she lived 4 minutes down the road :( ) . And due to Covid I wasn't able to have any one else. I asked for an epidural twice, they both failed. My sons heart rate wasn't recovering quick enough after the contractions. 2 mid wives came in, I was just trying to be so nice and friendly even though I was in so much pain because I was so lonely and scared. They said they need to put something on the baby's head to monitor the heart rate better. I agreed of course I would, who would say no. One midwife held me down the other went inside me to put the monitor on the baby's head and check if the cord was wrapped around... and I cried and blacked out due to the pain. 10 hours after I had been admitted to hospital I had my son via C section, he was just perfect and healthy thank goodness. But even my husband said to me when we were in the recovery ward. "Well that was the worst day of my life". Not something you hope to say nor agree with when you meet your precious baby for the first time. My son will be turning 2 soon and we are talking about possibly having another, there is so many things I would want to do differently. I really hope for a more positive experience. Thank you for your videos, just love watching you xxx
This info is assuming you have a solid poo. What it it isn't solid? Would you get out the tub? Do you get cleaned up if you are on the table? WHAT IF IT'S NOT SOLID?! lol

Such a great point!
One taboo topic I've literally NEVER heard anyone address is how does breastfeeding not feel sexual? Or does it?
This is a good question. I am due in a few days with my 3rd and breastfed my first 2. It never felt sexual to me. I would think it has to do with the hormones happening when breastfeeding happens. Curious if there is an official answer.
It doesn’t. Kind of in the same way that using a tampon doesn’t feel sexual. But I’ll def do research on more “official” answers and get back to you!
@@Nurse_zabe thank you that makes so much sense! I had the same question but was too afraid to ask. That's a great example!
The best way I could describe it , not sexual, but definitely, definitely when the milk let's down, a feeling of euphoria in some people that's pleasant. But not sexual. Best wishes to you.
@@deanakalova3063 Then there's me with tears in my eyes because my letdown was so painful for the first few months. 😅
Not sure if you have adressed this yet, but can you talk about rectal prolapse and if there is an increased risk of tearing?
My husband and I jumped the gun on intimacy when I was almost 4 weeks post C-section. I had PPROMed weeks before delivery and we were both desperate. Suffice it to say it was minimally effective and excruciatingly painful. 572/10 do not recommend! I cannot stress it enough.

I know you talk about getting embarrassed around people you don't know, but I would even be embarrassed doing some of the taboo things in front of my partner :') I am going to have to share all these things with him so he's prepared too.
I’m with you! Like I don’t care about pooping in front of medical professionals. I care about doing it in front of my partner! 🙈
Of course, warn them! But if your partner truly loves you they won't care about it when it happens 😉
My partner told me ahead of time “I know you’re going to poop, don’t worry about it” lol
Ugh, that is the WORST, and makes no sense. I’m so sorry!
Any thoughts on Relactation? You haven't made a video on this topic yet. I would love to hear your thoughts
Would love to know where your necklace is from! Looks like birth stones for the kiddos but cute and simple. Love!
Oh my gosh- beautiful necklace. ❤️💯
Yes! I was scrolling through the comments to see if she mentioned where she got it!
It was a gift from my SIL for Xmas. My children’s birthstones 😍😍
I was so concerned about eating during labor and then when I was in it I could not eat. They had to force me to take a few bites for energy
Yes, we often aren’t super hungry once active labor hits!
I had the worst nurses except for one. Wish I knew this, because one never gave me my pain meds in her entire 8 hour shift and when I asked the second time I saw her, 8 hours later she rolled her eyes like it was my fault. Never again!
That would just make me so angry !
I would ask for a new nurse and kick her ass out
Love your hair like this!
I love your necklace 🙈 can you possibly link it ??
I am super allergic to some fragrances (it's part of my food allergies) so it scares me that I will be exposed to it when I have my baby. So defusers being used by my neighbor scare me.
I was between 4-7 cm for over 24 hrs on pitocin for a medically indicated induction. Boy was I glad I had prepped homemade broth. Ginger chicken and lemon garlic saved me.
After an episiotomy, I had ZERO interest 6 weeks postpartum!! 🥴🥴🥴lol
Ouch❤️

Me when I pooped lol. "AM I POOPING!" the nurse looked like... hm Just like she didn't want to upset me "just a little bit" me "YOU KNOW WHAT I DONT GIVE A DAMN GET THE BABY OUT OF ME!"
I thought I would care so much but in the moment I really gave 0 f*** lol.
Since this was not the case, I didn't want them to be traumatized walking in on that 😵
Dang, that’s crazy how your instincts kicked in!
@@Nurse_zabe I also instinctively went downstairs to my living room that has hardwood flooring because I'd just bought my house about a month prior and didn't want to ruin the new carpet 😅
Crazy things that we think of under pressure.
Just finished seeing this video. 👍🏼 I just have a question. Why do the nurses push down on your stomach after labor? They did that to me and I never really asked them. Thank you for posting this video!
They are checking to make sure that your uterus is clamping down by doing a “fundal massage”. If it’s not clamped down we worry about excess bleeding.
@@Nurse_zabe this was last September 😹
I'm not allowed to eat once I am in labor just incase I need an emergency csection
Isn’t having sex in the hospital considered public indecency or having sex in public, punishable by law? Interesting discussion!
I didn't poop while pushing at all because I hadn't eaten in over 24 hours. I felt awful. :(
Ugh, that sounds so rough!
Mmmm ahh 🫢❤️❤️
i wasn't loud when i was having my contractions, until i had my last one before giving birth, i was shouting like i was in hell i couldn't shut up 🤣 after that my water broke and i pushed and gave birth to my beautiful daughter, she's 5 months now
I just have to say pooping was the last thing on my mind.

I love your bob look!
Omg I was so loud for the last 30 mins of my labor 😅 but that hurts 😂
I delivered in a car on the way to the hospital and pooped while pushing. I felt bad for the ER techs and nurses who transferred me to L&D, but I’m sure they’ve seen worse. We definitely got the car detailed.
They definitely have! I’m glad your car cleaned up well from having a baby in the car. Sometimes things can get messy 😅

I’m not sure if I pooped either time but I know I asked the second time (unmedicated)😂 I wish I would’ve ate the first time. The second time I ate a few hours before delivery and threw it up 🤢
First birth wanted unmedicated low intervention but ended up with medicated and traumatic 😥
Second birth unmedicated and went much better !
I was pretty quiet the first time and HOLLERING the second 😂
I wish I would’ve spoke up about one nurse I had the first time. Rest of my team both times were AMAZING 😍

❤
I wonder if they will let me have my baby on the toilet 😅
😁😁😁😁 I'm louder when I poop
This info is assuming you have a solid poo. What it it isn't solid? Would you get out the tub? Do you get cleaned up if you are on the table? WHAT IF IT'S NOT SOLID?! lol
Great points. I think it just depends for the tub, but we just wipe it away/change your bad as needed in the bed
Birthing people? Yeah, no thanks.
Since when is the word Mother taboo. Tired of the dismissive offensiveness of the masses to cater to an extreme mental illness minority.
