This movie was filmed in downtown Cincinnati, where I worked at the time. A few of my co-workers went on their lunch break a few blocks away to see them film a scene with Cate. The department store they used was the old Shillitos dept store remodeled for the movie. I remember seeing the old cars when I drove to work.
This movie is just heartwarming . Cate and Rooney (Whom i can't wait to see her playing Audrey Hepburn) in this movie is just amazing . And don't get me started on that gorgeous visual .
Just found your channel today. And yes, Carol is truly iconic and nuance. It’s a really, really good story. What’s an added interesting thing was how the book was written in the 50s, by a well known Thriller Author (whose books were used by Hitchcock). It’s like her coming out novel and a really bold move (same with how the two characters did in her novel).
This is such a beautifully crafted movie! And 4:05 yes, this is where the meme comes from 😂 It's about an old couple overheard at the theater while watching this movie.
Aaaa, so happy you watched this! Such a beautiful, heartbreaking film. Cate and Rooney are just perfect. Were there awards for this? I can't remember. I sure hope so. Haven't watched it since I saw it in theaters, but I think you inspired a rewatch, Jess. Thanks so much for this video! What a great start to 2023.
So happy to come across a reaction to this film. Absolutely loved the book, and I felt this was a perfect and stunning adaptation. A truly beautiful film.
As ever, I love your reactions, how you totally immerse yourself in the story. 12:48 Bit of trivia, this actor played The Riddler in the tv series GOTHAM. I want to see your react to the BBC's miniseries of "Fingersmith." Just sayin'
It's still wild to me this kind of dinamic (4:28), but I think it wasn't uncommon among richer people at the time. I was just reading a book about Classic Hollywood lesbians that mentioned how well Marlene Dietrich, her husband, her (female) lover and her husband's (also female) lover were all friends and lived in harmony, sometimes each couple in a country, sometimes all in the same house, with their daughter and all.
I watched this movie 2 years ago and I absolutely love it. You mention the look of the film and the key way the filmmakers achieved the look was shooting on 16mm film.
It took me a few days to watch this bc I love it so much I get overwhelmed. Nowadays so many people judge this film but it was truly the first time that as a lesbian I felt represented authentically. The director (a gay man) captured the intimacy without fetishising it, and the screenwriter (a lesbian) captured everything else so well. On the topic of perfume, I accidentally found my signature one but I couldn’t imagine changing it. It’s Blood Orange by Shay and Blue and is the perfect mix of masculine and feminine, fresh and woody.
Amazing performances by Blanchett and Mara! You can see both of them in the 2021 version of "Nightmare Alley", directed by Guillermo del Toro (he just received the Golden Globe for his animated version of Pinocchio). I recommend you react to some of his films.
@@fictionaldarling been years since I read it, but one of the things they omitted was Therese in bed with the guy that’s into her and she gives him a 🤚. Pardon the language
I know another series is a tall order, but I really think you'd enjoy "Ted Lasso". The characters are just so much fun, besides Ted himself, you;ll love Beard, Roy Kent, and the friendship between Rebecca and Keeley. In fact you might recognize some of the main actors from some recent MCU post credit scenes...
I loved this film. Greatly enjoyed your reaction; no surprise there. Because of your lipstick I am now craving red velvet cake. I hope that comes across as a compliment.
3:22 You ASKED, so this is not spam: Scent Crafters (scentcrafters⚪️com) There’s no “petrichor and cinnamon”, but you might come close with this custom scent: 1) Spice or Cinnamon - the main scent, 2) Frankincense and Myrrh - for woody notes, 3) Plum - light and juicy like rain, with a hint of earthy sweetness. I also recommend combining the China Rain scent with light, sweet fruit notes like Cantelope, or something exotic like Sandalwood. Experiment. You can even customize the bottle and name it.
Warning: I mixed Sandalwood, Vanilla, and Apple Blossom as a Yule gift once, and my sister’s dog kept finding the box and ripping it open-I invented dognip!
Wonderful reaction, thank you! I like that you take advantage of the commercial break time to add your own! One recommendation for a reaction: just 1 single episode in the series Black Mirror, season 3 episode 4, “San Junipero” You don’t need to watch the rest of the series for individual episodes.

The LGBT+ community was and still is a minority community that has been persecuted and taken advantage of in so many ways. It is really well depicted in the movie "If These Walls Could Talk 2" and "The Band Played On".
It's been awhile since i read the shooting script, so i can't remember if they were more explicit in it and it just got cut out - but in the book it was direct that Carol was in touch with Abby during the trip, so Abby often had an idea where they were/were staying. I'd love to have a signature smell, but everytime I pick a perfume they either stop making it or change formulation 😭
