I own a SL 320 1995, M104 . This video is very interesting, full a details permiting me to enjoy this car. We all need pleasure in a few part of our lifes. Since many years, my Mercedes is a daily pleasure during nice summer days. Your video makes me more confident with this car. Many thank all of you! Denis
Hello all,I just stumbled on this. I have a 94 sl600 and a 98 sl500. I had two others that I bought just for parts,so I have a good parts inventory for both. I work on them myself and enjoy them both. But I do like the v12 car the best even though it is far more problematic than the v8, I don't regret a minute of all the money and wrench turning I have thrown at it. Glad to know there are others out there who enjoy these cars as much as I do.
From Johannesburg South Africa 🇿🇦 : I have a 1994 SL320 straight six that I use as a daily driver. Absolutely fantastic. Doing a rolling restoration to get it mint.
The best car I have ever owned was a 1991 sl 300 Lorinser Edition. I bought it in 2000 so it was 9 years old but with the Lorinser Kit it looked better than the new ones. When I rolled up in that car I got whatever I wanted. I love this video im 48 years old now, I think i want to try out a sl 500 with xenon headlights next. Appreciate your information!!!
Hi new to this channel, I own the 1997 SL500 La costa edition, (calypso green) very rare car and I love it, used to be my daily driver, it's now a weekender.
Very Cool. Doug Demuro did a review of a 2002 SL500 Silver Arrow last year and referred to it as "the last old school Mercedes Benz" and an excellent example of the early 2000s shift to a more mainstream sales approach.
, I have a 2002 R129 Silver Arrow, a total of 1650 built, out of which 100 were SL600, 100 SL500 right hand drive, and 1450 SL500, mine is one out of 1450 SL500 The R129 is best engineered SL ever built by Mercedes
One of my friends just pointed out that the prices in here are getting pretty dated - this discussion is now about two years old and the prices have gone up some. I still think that they are great cars for the money, just not as cheap as they used to be.
It’s not called a “bumper cover.” It’s a TOW HOOK COVER. And it is NOT a cheap part to buy or easy to locate. I searched high and low for months before I found one reasonably priced on eBay. $89. Everyone else wanted $200 for the thing! And most were the wrong color anyway...
Fair point on the terminology. Did you end up finding a used on on ebay that was painted with your body color? Quite a few of those small parts can be hard to find and overwhelming for many owners when they have to get them painted. It's a little much for such a small piece of bodywork. Next time you may have some luck going old school and reaching out to My Mercedes and Bimmer Place (or another specialty shop) and seeing if they can locate one for you. Quite often I've found that a local shop like that has routes and methods in place for just such things. I doubt you'd have found one for less than ebay, but someone else would have been doing the legwork saving you a little time and effort.
Have you looked at fuses? Without pulling out the fuse box diagram, I'll comment that Mercedes usually fuses the lights separately so one fuse failure doesn't drop both headlights (Typically fuses high and low beams separately too).
I don't have a good answer for this one. I follow this intermittently on the forums, and I periodically see folks tapping into supplies of these. It seems that some small amount are sometimes available, but it varies by year and yesterday's situation may differ from tomorrows. The internet forums are your best friend for this one.
@@garyedwards6398 thanks for your answer. I am on the hunt in the forums and everywhere even went to Stuttgart without success. if my key deteriorates further I might have to trash my mint SL ..
@@garyedwards6398 thank you. Yes I did and talked to someone very friendly named Chuck - he told me what to tell the dealer and I did. But the dealer did not confirm availability - this is going back and forth for almost a year now .. tried multiple dealers also in Germany ..
Good evening, I’m a proud owner of a 1998 R129 SL600 V12. You mentioned that there were four other V12 owners that was part of your group. If at all possible could any of the V12 owners contact me by email? I have some questions about my rear suspension. Thank you, John W.
John,. There are a few of us that help out with the channel, but I'd say our resident expert is Gary Edwards, he's got a fleet of V-12s and helped me out with my 2005 S600. I can pass all my your email to him if you can post it here. Alternatively you can use the email form on the MBCA Peachtree website which may take a little longer but should get to him as well.

Did you have any photos of your car? I just bought a 1996 SL 320, with some Lorinser d-93s I never saw the whole kit on the car before!

If UA-cam views are any indication, they sure are popular as well.
I love my 1999 r129 SL 500👍

Good point. I'll see if we can add something to the video description to cover that.
So, currently at 129 likes, I'm a little hesitant to press it one more...
Long live the R129!

@@MBCAPeachTube Thanks. And yes, I did find an exact color match. Snapped right in. Fits better than the one that fell out!
When referencing head gasket job was that just for v6?
Carl, it does not apply to the V6, it's only for the M104 straight six.
The driver's side high beam on my 1998 R129 does work. Tried several bulbs to no avail, wiring looks ok. Any suggests on where to look next ?

Shame you can't get an SL500 with a manual gearbox.
Someone mentioned that you are also an avid Porsche 996 enthusiast. What’s your take on 996.1?
Replacement key FOBs are currently unavailable from dealers. Any idea where or how to get a new one?
