I love the themes in her albums. She doesn't try to write about abstract ideas that are super relatable to everyone, she goes into it trying to write about her own life and experience and it's through the artistry and authenticity that so many people actually DO find it super relatable. I'm not 19 anymore but those emotions are portrayed so viscerally that I remember them and it resonates.
I have to disagree about Logical, it didn't bother me a bit, but then I've always been more into her dance tracks and I love the vibe of those "misplaced songs". I feel like part of the idea behind the placement is getting away from the "Sad Girl Summer" vibes she was labeled with in SOUR. By following sad songs with the more boppy ones, the overall impression of the album is a lot lighter than SOUR.
Oh I totally disagree haha, this album feels way heavier and darker than SOUR to me 😂 Even those dancing songs, the content is more serious than what SOUR gave us. But I love how albums affect people differently!

I wasn't connecting with this album but after a few listens I can say I love it. More than SOUR? Don't ask me hard questions. My top 3 is the grudge, ballad of a homeschooled girl & love is embarrasing.

The ballads hit harder because there aren’t as many as sour and the rock songs but harder because there’s breathing room; it’s great.
Ballad of a homeschool girl gave me mean girls vibes, especially with the social suicide line.

I wasn’t a fan of her during Sour except for her rockier songs (Brutal and Good 4 U). I love her new album. I hope she goes full rock one day….it’s so refreshing to hear those sounds again in mainstream music.

I think my favs are probably Logical, Bad Idea Right?, and Ballad of a Homeschooled Girl.
i agree about the placement of get him back! first listen i didn’t really like the song but when i listened to it a few more times, i thought “why didn’t i like this the first time? it’s so good” and i think it was definitely because of the placement i wasn’t in the right mood for that upbeat of a song

Honestly from logical to, get him back!, to love is embarrassing, to the grudge, it’s kind of like the stages you go through after being in a relationship right. So, logical you’re hurt you’re grieving and you don’t know what you did wrong and you’re sad, confused, but kind of mentally understanding that the things they did fucked you up, get him back! can go two ways either she wants revenge (as she should) or she wants him back because she still loves him (as is relatable for most girls after a a relationship ends), love is embarrassing is like when you break up and all your friends are like he was ugly anyways you were doing him a favor and you’re like okay well fuck you bc you’re a prick blah blah, the grudge is when you truly reflect on everything that happened and everything they did to you and how it’s making you feel and shaping you as a person. Back to back when you think of it relationship wise it melts right into eachother one after another. Idk just perspective I guess.
I also can heavily relate as I’m 19 and got broken up with before this album came out, so like I said, it really is just about perspective

I think Liv just did fine with get him back! coming after logical. Because even though it is not logical to want to get an ex back, 'cause as Liv said love is never logical, it still happens in a relationship wherein you still want your ex back even after they did a number on you. Also, you were right when you said that the title has a double meaning - to get revenge and to get the person back at the same time.

@@bennshouts thank you I don’t see the similarities at all in this album to under my skin and UMS is my favorite album by Avril and it feels more pop rock with a lot of guitar which I felt guts lacks guitars or drums in a lot of songs to be considered a pop punk album

yeah this is 100% a pop punk album, plus UMS is a lot heavier in terms of lyrical content and just the vibe overall. GUTS still has those songs you can just happy dance too. UMS is ANGRY!
