Trains 21 is a documentary of railroading in the 21st century and a look at the fascinating world of transportation. On this channel we deal with all aspects of trains with a strong focus on the Northeast USA.
The goal is for you to learn a lot in a short amount of time.. A major infusion of knowledge in just a few minutes.. And if those few minutes distilled some of the best railroad information in the industry, we feel that we've done our job..
The trick is clarity.. Clear, concise and on point.. New videos are uploaded frequently and if you like what you see, comment, like and subscribe (in that order!).

This came out just in time the B&P is sadly getting rid of all their 6 axle EMD power, so the SD40’s 50’s and 60’s will be leaving in the coming months and Dash9’s will be replacing them im sad the SD60’s are leaving

The ride of the GP60M is trashed too much, they don't ride great but they're hardly terrible. They're great for locals because they have plenty of power, load up quick, good brakes, and cab a/c which most GPs didn't have years ago. That said the cab interior was pretty bad on wide cab GP and SD sixties.

I heard that although they may not have been smooth riders a lot of crews liked the gp60ms due to their high gearing and quick loading, especially during the Atsf days on hotshots.

I agree about the look of those locomotives. The hood unit versions (SD50/SD60) were beautiful machines. Their very appearance suggested great power.

That old Consolidated Freightways trailer ought to be in a museum - especially if it was a "pup" at birth {"pup" is slang for any short trailer built to run either in tandem, or as a triple}. Oh yeah, don't forget about the SD-60MAC demos painted in quasi-BN colors - they were the ones that helped EMD beat GE to the punch in having the first commercially successful AC-traction locomotives on the market!!

The "Yellow Jacket & GMTX Blue" NYS&W "leased" sd60's ended up at RJ Corman and are still running strong :) Still see a few NS sd60e's in Binghamton

I knew about the 'Yellow Jackets' but didn't know that the Susie Q had any GMTXs. Thanks for that info.

The SD60s are honestly very underrated as had the not existed EMD would have been dead.

Idk about other places but here around Lansing Michigan CN has been running sd60 as local power. 10-15 years ago when I moved to the area they were using old gtw gp-38-2 but they would often stall on hills. I remember seeing them trying to pull 98 empty auto racks one time with a gp38. They stalled and gave a heck of a spark show before finally getting it all out onto the main line. A few years ago they switched to sd60s and I haven't heard of them having any similar issues since.

Imagine EMD SD50’s, but they had all their problems & issues fixed. They would be EMD SD50I, with the I standing for Improved.

I think alot of those older EMDs were equipped with Leslie air horns like the RS-5T or RS3, still hear some occasional on NS!🛤🚂👍

@ 0:39 I’m surprised that SD60 could haul that without a helper or DPU! 😀😉
Edit: also I never knew that NS fielded the “Triclops?”
