  • My sister and her late husband bought this Lander Rover Series 2A 88 new in 1972. It was their daily driver and hauled horse trailers around Virginia for many years. The late 70s and early 80s were not any easy time to support an old Land Rover - dealer disappeared and parts were hard to come by. The vehicle deteriorated and gradually became a farm utility vehicle for towing a manure cart, operated primarily by young girls who boarded their horses at the farm. They learned to pull the choke out on cold days, but never learned to push it back in. I made regular trips 30 miles each way to perform "patch-up " maintenance.

I just want to applaud you guys and wish you lived near me in Cocoa Beach Florida. I'm a 71 year old retired high school teacher but as a young girl loved driving my dad's old army jeep. Fast forward, I thought buying a 1980 Series 3 land rover 88 would be fun just to drive around the beach area. I was "taken" by a guy who sold it to me from Spain so it is a Land Rover by with some Santana modifications when Land Rover pulled out of Spain. Anyway, I can not turn corners at all and my husband can barely turn it and of course there is a lot of play in steering wheel. My rover is in better shape compared to the one in your video. I so appreciate your video and hope you will download more videos as you work on this car to help us. Again, I loved the video and applaud all the hard work.

If you have heavy or non-existent steering I would look at the steering relay first. Find a capable mechanic and invest in your car. They are only increasing in value.

I assume they aren't all as tough as this. Getting ready to do another in the next couple of weeks so I'll find out.

I have 2 88 inch series 3's and both of them did not want to come out.
On one i rebuilt the relay in the crossmember. and the other needed a new crossmember anyway so that one got some grinder action.

Blather the new one in oil and grease, i am lucky mine has been replaced and the chassis is galvanized.
Land Rovers love grease and oil.

I took my relay out today rusty but not as stuck as yours. I then took it apart and got hit by the spring. Best to just buy a new one. Not worth it rebuild 😳

That spring is amazing. Special tool required to re-install. Just not worth the effort when a new replacement is readily available.
