Keep in mind that some of the adults who are obsessed with Disney tend to be neurodivergent. I know a very intelligent woman, a veterinarian, who has mild autism and she absolutely adores going to Disney. She squeals with excitement as if she were 5, and doesn't perceive how odd her behavior is to others.

When Frankie said “my daughter starting making overtures of “I have to go before I’m 7” as the dad of a 5 year old…. Frankie thank you. Thank you for teaching me that “overtures” is the word I’ve been looking for to describe my daughter’s Disneyland demands. 😂

It’s good you have SO much time to spend with your kid(s). I know other UA-cam personalities that can’t manage that.
The Haunted Mansion and Pirates ride at Disneyland are great. When the ghost spirits rise up from the graveyard? The environmental effects in Pirates? Come on. There’s a Mickey railroad picnic whatever ride at DL that is amazing.

Your take on how the Magic Kingdom should not be for adults is spot on. It’s the only park in Florida that doesn’t serve any type of alcoholic drink. Even in concept much of it has not been changed and adapted compared to some of the newer parks like Epcot and Hollywood. I think you would enjoy the Animal Kingdom/Nintendo World next time you go just based on some of your callouts from this. Lots of free play stuff for kids and adults in both of those parks.

Orlando local here. When you mentioned you were coming down here in January my IMMEDIATE thought was "Oh man he's gonna clown us for our big winter jackets we wear in our mild winter" and I was not disappointed. The trade-off for being cold weather wimps is our insane ability to withstand heat and humidity to the point where our eyeballs begin to boil in our heads. Also sometimes when it gets cold enough, it'll stun the wild iguanas and they'll just fall out of the trees until they thaw out and go about their business.

I live in Delco Pa (I’m not originally from here), but so many of the people I talk to here go to Disney World EVERY YEAR and spend thousands and thousands of dollars. They gotta make sure they have the princess breakfasts, the genie pass, and they have to go around Christmas time especially. It’s the most insane thing I’ve ever heard. It was cool when I went there and I only been there twice in my 40 years of life, but I’d rather go to an amusement park with actual rides. I will admit that when I went as a senior in High School I started to tear up a little bit, finally getting in to the Magic Kingdom as you walk through Pinocchio’s village and they play classic disney music. Just very nostalgic. At the time in 2002 tickets cost $75 a piece. Characters still walked around. I happily got my picture taken with Launchpad McQuack. All these people around where I live probably care more about the park than their kids at this point. My kids could give two shits about Disney. Buzz Lightyear is the best ride there.

    • @Mpresley83

I hang out in Delco in the early 00s, and live near the area. Your spot on the "Disney Adults" that plan vacations every year to FL. Both with or without kids.
Even have a few friends that did a college internship at the park- basically spent a fair amount of time working at the park, and have reunions every few years with people they worked with. This is going on 20 years ago.
If it makes people happy, no issues on my end- just find it odd. Like you, in my 40 years, been to parks once in the early 90s. I was never a huge Disney fan, even growing up, but glad I went when I did.
The cost of the parks are insane. I can plan a trip (and have) to Europe or South America for the cost of a weekend at the park.

The genie pass in particular seem really confusing when reading about it. But you broke it down way better than the Disney nerds on Reddit. We ultimately pass on going because it was gonna be about $5000. I totally forgot about all the up-sales these places get you with. I just back from Disneyland. This time we tried "rope dropping" combined with Genie+.
The problem you run into with the lightning lanes is that 2 or three rides run out of lightning lanes faster than others, and then you have to choose whether you book a lightning lane for Indiana Jones 3 hours from now, and have to wait at least 2 hours to get another lightning lane... or do you just stick to lightning lanes that are immediate, and try to knock them out quickly so you can just hop from one ride to the next, but then risk never getting on the most popular rides.

I agree that the rides people are the most nostalgic for are not worth bragging about at all. I think you need to get really into it when you are a tiny child, like my older sister loves Haunted Mansion more than anything else on Earth. But the thrill rides I love just for the presentation, like I love Space Mountain just for how dark it is, even if it is just a dinky fairground rollercoaster, I just love the environment they placed it in. Same for Rockin' Rollercoaster at Hollywood Studios, it's just a stock rollercoaster from a Tycoon game blueprint essentially, but with Aerosmith blaring in the background in a dark Hollywood recreation makes it a million times better for me.
New stuff in this style is what really shines for me like the new Tron ride (that took them like 5 years to build, Jesus Christ), I love the Guardians of the Galaxy ride at Epcot, and I know the sequels suck but man I love the techincal complexity of the Star Wars rides. It's so impressive to me to be in a life size hangar bay with AT-AT's looking at you. I'm really not into Star Wars in general but I love those rides. The presentation just makes all of those excellent for me. Though, these are the rides that need the Genie+ or pre-booking crap that you then also have to wait like 4 more hours for to get in, basically you have to commit your whole day to one of those. I do love the shows a lot too, like the fireworks, the parades, and the theatrics in Hollywood Studios. But growing up near the area and attending since being an infant has really conditioned me to enjoy all of it already, so I'm biased, I get that. To be fair I think I am like that with Universal Studios too, there's tons of shortcomings but I'll defend all of it, haha.
I think I've finally reached gluttonous adulthood because I look forward to the restaraunts more than anything. I also think they have amazing food, but this is one thing you kinda need to consult us disturbed nerds to find out where they legitimately great food is. There's also tons of great restaraunts on Disney property but outside of the Disney parks, many require reservations, but that's a whole rabbit-hole I won't add onto for the FOMO factor lol.
Also yea, we're goofy in Florida, 50 degrees will kill us. You northerners are psychos, but to be fair we even think 79 degrees is chilly. So we're ready for the heat death of the world.
Also sorry you had to deal with some weirdo on Haunted Mansion reciting the ride, that's a real problem when some people just go crazy with the participation factor, like they think they need to talk along to the rides, or try to make a new trend of yelling something out like a midnight movie screening. I agree that needs to stop, it ruins the experience.

I’m obsessed with the Disney parks, but I don’t mind you throwing shade at the Magic Kingdom rides, because I’m used to the Disneyland versions of the same rides, and the California versions of the same rides are so much better, especially Pirates, Small World, Buzz Lightyear, Space Mountain, and Peter Pan! The Florida Magic Kingdom, with the exception of the castle and Tron, feels like a cheaper imitation of the original Disneyland. I’m telling ya, man. Walt’s original magic kingdom is so charming, though I cannot guarantee that it will be your cup of tea like it is mine.

Also, learning to figure out how to get the most out of Genie Plus is ridiculous with its many caveats. You end up zigzagging around the park sometimes if you aren’t glued to your phone. I took my cousins to Disney when they were around 10-12 and they were bored after about an hour. Its seems like it's more for really young kids. They used to just have a "fast pass" for each ride which was a separate shorter line, and the tickets were free but you had to wait about an hour to use each one, so you could time it out where you could go through every ride without waiting that long
Also speaking of covid, I never wore a mask, never got a vaccine, and still have never got covid. Everyone I know who got the vaccine has caught it at least 3 or 4 times by now. So do what you will with that information

your hot take has me kind of flip flopping in my head around it. On one hand I understand the weirdness of a childless adult in a childrens themepark is odd. But there is no age limit and i bet you everything is designed to be both fun for parents being nostalgic and fun for their kid. So its completely valid to suspend disbelief and play pretend as an adult as the place is meant for that. Not my cup of tea, I find even adults going to escape rooms odd. But to each their own.

    • @RedCowArcade
      @RedCowArcade  6 місяців тому +4

So I would say, just because something is allowed doesn’t mean it’s always appropriate. You can do a lot worse things than meet an amusement park mascot, I’m just saying it’s odd. Again, I feel like most people would think it was VERY bizarre to meet Santa by yourself as an adult in a mall. And I fail to see how this is all that different, or different at all. As for it being designed for grownups to go by themselves? No, I don’t get that impression. It was quite distinct for kids, much like the rides were for kids and adults are allowed to go on. Similarly, Bippidy boppidy boutique was only for ages 3 to 12. I guarantee you, if they opened that up it would be swarmed by adults. But for once, they decided to make a space just for children, since it’s so obviously a children’s activity.

Guardians of the galaxy coaster is insane at Epcot
Rise of the resistance is mind blowing at Hollywood
Everything else at the parks is weird and mostly not worth the waits

Space Mountain is decent for an indoor coaster. That Aerosmith coaster at Epcot is amazing too

Active infection and no mask, even a crappy surgical. I can understand committing to the trip with the sunk cost and a child, but you should consider that you've exposed two flights, your family, and innumerable park attendees to disease with no consideration of their health. COVID and long-COVID are no joke, I wish people would take it seriously.

I would to listen to an entire podcast episode about Red Cow vs Disney Adults. The only cool ride to me is the Great Movie Ride and the only exciting cool one is Expedition Everest. But yeah the actual rides are kinda whatever the appeal for Magic Kingdom as someone who doesn’t really care about Disney is the vibe and being there I assume.

That’s why I buy travel insurance with “cancel for any reason.” You can be reimbursed for your non-refundable purchases that way if you get a fever or something and cannot go.

How much would you say you spent in total in a day at the park?

Day 1 was 8:30am to about 7:30am. Day 2 was about 11am to 9pm. So 10 to 11 hours on average I'd say.

I have fun with muh kid at Tokyo Disneyland, but there are some rides that just have to go or need updates. This includes haunted mansion, small world, the pinocchio ride, and peter pan. They're cheap carnival rides in 2024 that for some reason have 2 hour long lines. At least next time we go, I now have a list of certified shitty rides that are not worth anyone's time.
