4K Drive Shrewsbury Town Centre

Shrewsbury is a large market town and the county town of Shropshire, in western England. It sits inside a loop of the River Severn, and its Tudor centre is lined with half-timbered houses.
The town centre has a largely unspoiled medieval street plan and over 660 listed buildings, including several examples of timber framing from the 15th and 16th centuries.
Shrewsbury Castle, a red sandstone fortification, and Shrewsbury Abbey, a former Benedictine monastery, were founded in 1074 and 1083 respectively by the Norman Earl of Shrewsbury, Roger de Montgomery. The town is the birthplace of Charles Darwin and is where he spent 27 years of his life.
The medieval, red-brick Shrewsbury Castle houses the Shropshire Regimental Museum, where military artefacts include uniforms and weaponry. St Chad's Church is defined by its unique circular nave, and St Mary’s Church has elaborate stained-glass windows.

Thank you.I felt I was being taken on a Sunday drive through a town that is very precious to me. In my 80s now at home in Sydney, Australia and so often wishing I could spend one more holiday in Shrewsbury. My father was born nearby and he wrote about the place in a way that meant I just had to visit....often. Would you maybe do a walking tour of central Shrewsbury one day; such a fascinating town surrounded by the Severn.

Hi Jennie, cold weather, freezing and thawing during the winter usually damage our roads. Shrewsbury is still a lovely flower town in Shropshire.

@@mayancho21 ahh, I've only lived in Shrewsbury 48 years, I think the piss poor council have actually ruined our roads, but thanks for the observation.
