This is actually a respectable off road test for a stock truck... I am glad we are seeing actual off-road testing and not just someone driving down a dry, flat, dirt road yelling this is an off-road beast 🤣🤣
Aka TFL and Edmunds
LOL so true
@@andyham6094 TFL in my opinion is a complete joke. Everything they review is just awesome and a game changer.
They get something, drive it 50ft and declare it to be the best vehicle out there
@@michaelh5055 because they’re sales men, they try to sell you the trucks which is why they get access to so many first. You will rarely ever hear them say anything bad about them and they rarely compare apples to apples when they do a Vs competition, like how fair so it to run a stock wrangler vs a squatch bronco?
Honestly so true I just got a ranger so was looking for a hood off road comparison glad I came across this
I like the way you guys test off-road trucks for the Canadian market. Off-roading in Canada is often muddy with lots of rock, steep slopes, and tight spaces. Videos of Moab are always cool and Baja running looks like a blast, but that isn't the terrain Canadians put their trucks through. Well done.
Well said!
Definitely agree. It's the same kind of terrain here in Northern MN. Baja running looks cool, but it's not what I see every day. Mud, ruts, rocks and tight trails.
@@cjhenks yep I need to know if I can get a truck down an old zero maintenance forest road in Chippewa national forest for some sweet grouse hunting. Not if I can crawl over a boulder with a spotter to post on Instagram.
Not everyone in the states live near moab. It's like an hour drive from me.... but near me it's a lot like this. Utah has it all
Ohio is very similar.
I currently have a 2019 ranger fx4, upgraded with 2 inch leveling kit and 32" duratracs. I live in Labrador and I honestly could not be happier with the truck. 23000km on it and absolutely no issues, and it goes anywhere and everywhere I want it to with no issues
Love Labrador - hoping we will be back there with a new Tundra next year.
Do you still have the ranger? Any issue? I don’t find any long term review over 60 k
When you first went through in the ranger, you slow down and basically stopped, before you backed up and took a different line and went through with momentum. When you took the Colorado through you had the benefit of knowing that and you did it right from the start. That's why you had to back up and do it again. Well, I do believe the duratrax are better tires too though. I do favor the ranger, but you can't go wrong with either one of these. Thanks for the video 👍
i got a 2019 ranger and never looked back besides to see the look on the guys face i just passed love when full size v8 trucks think they can outrun the ranger they always learn the hard way. dodge owners seem to be the slowest of the v8 full size trucks
Ranger for me. I own a 2019 4x4 Lariat and the Tremor is looking great.
ZR2 all day. Easy choice. Roughly same price. ZR2 rides better, is more off-road capable, has an integrated brake controller, more engine options, better mpg, better tires
Basically my takeaway from this...duratracs are a much better tire than the general grabbers are, helped confirm which tire i'm throwing on my '19 Ranger FX4 this summer
That's what always bothers me. Off road is 90% tires. I guess it counts since tires cost money and what comes stock is important. But it'd be nice to see this test with identical aftermarket tires
I'd rather just have two sets of wheels. I have hybrid tires on my JKU now, and much prefer something like the Generals for daily driving. I'll be returning to something similar later in the year.
well the difference in price is a big take away there as well, most duratracs are in the $250 range per tire, vs the $150 range per tire for the Grabbers. I've had both on vehicles and I can tell you the grabbers last almost as long on the highway and street as the duratracs and are pretty comparable in mud and off-roading.
Except for the X3. Those are good tires, but not the General Grabbers that the Ranger comes with unfortunately.
YEP! I have found the Duratracs are FAAAAAR better tires BUT still not quite as good as the NITTO Ridge Grapplers or the even more high end NITTO EXO GRAPPLERS --- Those two are probably the BEST standard production run 4-season Rock, Sand, Mud, Snow and Ice MT tires on the market!
You CAN get super-high-end specialty-market MT tires in the $1000 to $2000 USD per tire range but that's your choice to spend that much on a tire! (i.e. up to $8000 for a set of four!)
v
I drove both and the Ranger (XLT Sport) just felt all around better to me (the ZR2 does look badass though). The weight of the wheel in the Ranger has a bit of heft, which makes me feel more in control of the vehicle. My offroading experience is much different than these guys though, New Mexico High Desert. They're both great trucks. 2 months in, and I have absolutely no complaints about the Ranger - towing through the mountains is a breeze, even when taking the trailer through hilly, unpaved terrain.
Great video, this earned my sub!
I would have liked to see you guys go through again with the zr2 but with both lockers on to see if there would be a difference
See which truck can do it slowest.
@@13x remind me of my grandad swearing against 4wd because "he didn't need it". No, he didn't, instead of crawling through mud pits on hunting trails he would hit them so fast the truck skimmed across the top of the water. Anything not tied down would bounce everywhere and I am pretty sure the divot in my head is the button on a baseball cap leaving its mark.
@@srw788 damn 😂
The Chevy had lockers and Ford didn't so they didn't try it that way to not break the hearts of Ford fans. OBVIOUSLY
The Ranger's struggle up the hill only because it had to cut through the mud first and the driver slowed turn and slowed down right before going up the hill. Both great trucks. Both did well in my eyes. Very similar in comparison.
Having to drive through freshly made ruts isn't a cake walk either for the ZR2. Plus the ZR2 looked like a better ride quality IMO. Having an available diesel and front locker is a plus as well in my book.
The only way I'd give up my ZR2 is for the Ranger Raptor. Maybe have a slight biased for my ZR2 but no brand loyalty what so ever. With that front locker I've gotten in and out of things that I had no business attempting by myself. And pricing on sticker is quite expensive but for my 2019 I was out the door at 36.5k with the end of the year sale. Originally wanted the TRD Pro but Toyota is way too proud to come off price and honestly preferred the ride of my ZR2
I'm a Ford guy but that ZR2 is a nice truck. 👍
@@jimh.412 right, I have the ford too but that zr2 shreds
ZR2 is awesome..... don’t own a midsized but if I did.. that would be the truck.
If it's on off-road test and you didn't use 4Lo at all and new steep up hill climbs then it was half a test. There's a reason front lockers are a thing.
Thanks for pointing out the better payload and towing. Both are great, capable trucks. Buy the one you get the best discount on.
You should try turning off nanny mode entirely on the ZR2. Put it in Park, then press and *hold* the traction control for several seconds until all the traction control warning lights come on. That, combined with Off-road mode enabled make it a pretty fun truck to drive in loose conditions.
100% accurate af
I know the 2016 Colorado full traction and stability control can be turned off on the go up to 55km/h
If you turn on the off-road mode then disable the traction control, it will stay off right to 160kph speed limiter, i loved that when playing off road, lots of fun doing it in 2wd too
@@shrekk5047 wow didn't know that
@@shrekk5047 thanks Shrek lol. I want front and rear lockers in all trucks. I'm actually going to look into aftermarket lockers now for my truck
I gotta say zr2 I own one with the diesel and it awesome the most I tow is a maverick x3 and the ride is plush on or off road also like the engine options from Chevy don’t get me wrong eco boost sounds nice but my daily driver with the duramax gets 22 miles per gallon city and I’ve gotten 23 24 on trips not bad especially considering the tires and added weight of the zr2 so what can I say I’m a Chevy girl 🥰
The zed of course, it's not even an apples-to-apples comparison. But I may not get one until they put some proper fog lights on there.
Bison package has fog lights. (Slightly decreased approach angle though)
On the ZR2, hold down the traction control button for 7 seconds and it will completely bypass it. This will help prevent the truck from bogging.
Yup have a Chevy 3/4 ton that’s the same way and my Ford 3/4 ton work truck you can do the same thing so they could try it in the Ford too. Just when you do it in the Ford you would lose the mud and ruts mode
Usually, holding the traction control button is to disable stability control, not traction control.
Got my ZR2 3.5 years ago based on your recommendation in one of your videos. 58,000 miles (almost 100,000km) later and still loving it! Thanks again!
Great to hear!
@Ryan Belden Mine is a 2018 built in 2017 and had 2 leaky shocks replaced under warranty. I heard they remedied that for 2019 and newer I think.
The 4wd actuator and the a/c blend actuator were also replaced under warranty. Everything was done while it was getting an oil change, so I was never inconvenienced nor stranded.
I can only speak for myself, but I'm not easy on vehicles and this truck has handled everything I have thrown at it. The most recent test was recovering a stuck nissan titan on the beach. It just clawed and dug and dragged it out. Great truck. Not perfect, but does everything well
@Ryan Belden No issues - however please remember we test brand-new trucks and we have them for only a week at a time.
I'll take the tremor. But I've always been a Ford guy so not sure it counts lol. But I genuinely like the ranger, everytime I see them on the road I like em more n more. Good lookin truck
I picked one up 2 months ago. Firetruck Red XLT Sport - I like it more and more every day. Just bought a small lift, once it's in, I might just have to marry the damn thing.
I own a 2021 lariat Tremor I was travelling on a gravel road at 140 kilometres an hour even jumped in the air about a foot and the suspension did great..... Setting it up as an Overland I live in the Northwest territories of Canada in the middle of nowhere... The big question for me is is the Chevy worth 15 or $20,000 more then the Ranger? I can always add a front locker or upgrade this suspension which there is no need..... I think the clear winner was the Ranger for me.....
There "as tested" price for both of these trucks was 54 thousand. there was no major price difference.
@@paulfaiman5601 not in the NWT......
I like both, but ended up with the 2021 ZR2. I really like this truck, best I have owned..
Ranger for sure. Being able to use it as a truck is a huge bonus.
@@layne4376 ok
@@layne4376 sure, sounds like your a pro....not
use it for about 100k miles maybe. Then that junky turbo 4 is gonna die
I'd go with the ranger. I use trucks to haul and tow. Being able to go mudding on the weekends is a plus. Job 1 though is handling my daily tasks.
The ZR2 can't work???
@@samduran5180 I didn't say that. I need more than the zr2 can give for payload if I'm in a mid size truck. I'm sure the zr2 is more than capable for most, I just need more.
@@tmurray12 500 hundred pounds more? So basically a few more bags of concrete, just put over loads or air bags that'll be a cheap and easy fix. Or get the Colorado diesel.
@@samduran5180 I'm not spending that much money on a new truck just to spend more money on making it what I need it to be when I can buy a new truck that I don't need to do anything to. Do I like the front locker? Absolutely! I'm glad chevy did that. But I'm going to use that extra 500 lbs more than I'm going to use a front locker. If I'm building an overland rig I'd sooner get the zr2 over the gladiator rubicon. Not throwing shade chevy's way just saying I'd rather have the ranger for my everyday stuff.
@@tmurray12 For what your loosing your not gaining much other than 500 lbs more towing. Just put air bags. The ZR2 will out perform the ranger on and off road, I just feel your loosing alot.
If I wasn't already subscribed, the use of the phrase "snot pit" in a truck review would have earned the hit.
I own a 2016 Colorado Z71 and absolutely love the truck. For a midsize with the 3.6 Liter V6, i is a little work horse. I've had no trouble with it and would purchase another Colorado again.
Love these videos. This one in particular is why I just bought a Tremor. It was a tough decision but I am extremely happy with it.
I have a 2018 ZR2 and you defiantly cannot beat the ride. Seems like the rougher the road the smoother she rides. I like the looks and size of the Ranger but will stick with my ZR. Great review guys! thank you!!!
Owned both
The Ranger is fun to drive and faster than the Colorado by far but the mileage isn’t the greatest and the fuel tank is too small. You will be filling up more often.
The Colorado is softer to drive a lot more car like and It has a proper size tank for fuel. Plus you can get it in a diesel which is awesome speaking from experience. The wife liked the Colorado better
Looks like so much fun. Your laugh's say it all. Really liking the drone shots. Keep them coming chaps.
I like my 2019 Ranger lariat it has lots of room and gets great gas mileage too. lots of power with that 10 speed transmission very fun truck to drive.
Ranger did everything the ZR2 did... but the ZR2 could still lock the front if the conditions got worse.
But the ranger will last lol
100% correct! Hit some steep rocks, pop in the front lockers and leave the Ranger sitting!
@@brandondannys-menary3678 Yup, right until the warranty runs out! LOL!
@@godzilla7148 nah lol, chevys used to be reliable but not anymore. That's coming from someone who has owned several Older chevy trucks
Low range is rarely your friend in mud, locked front or not.
I love my stock xl ranger. It is a great vehicle so far. And it has great get up and go
I recently got a low miles/like new 2021 Tremor. It is a great truck, and a pleasure to daily. It drives so well on the road and is very comfortable, which is where mine will be 95% of the time. There will be a few rare occasions where I will ever go anywhere resembling "off road" but not many for me. Also, I have read in several places that it is 270hp/310T on 87 octane. But it has a knock sensor, so you can run it on 93 octane, and gain about 20-25HP. I haven't verified this, but many sources report it to be so.
Both trucks are phenomenal. The Ford has better numbers, as is, but the ZR2 comes with a front locker and can be optioned with a diesel that gives it better torque and towing over the Ford. Tires can be changed so in the end, I'd go with the blue one. Oh, and great job Truck King on the channel and on having the best format truck-owners want to see!
Ford beats he Chevy by 2500 pounds in towing capacity, also has more payload capacity
@@Bigdsd89 No it doesn't. The ZR2 with a diesel tows 7,600 lbs which is 100 lbs OVER the Ford but it takes the price of the ZR2 up above the Fords by about $4K. Both trucks are very nice but if towing and payload are your main sticking points then neither of these trucks should be in consideration.
Angle of entry and speed for exit was definitely different. If you did the same direction for both then the ranger would climb out just as easy. I would have to give it to the Colorado just for the fact it has a front locker and that would help a lot.
All the Ranger needed was a little bit more momentum kept up in the mid section and it would have blown through there as well !!
Colorado all day! I've got an S10 ZR2 and looking to upgrade and the Colorado has always performed better in almost anything I see.
The deeper you go the more you see how much better the Colorado is
I have a zr2 with the duramax and I tow old school k5 blazers all the time with no problem. Not to mention it is awesome offroad. Keep in mind that the front locker was not used in these videos. So the zr2 definitely has the advantage offroad the comfort on road and towing capabilities as well. ZR2 all the way.. .
Great to see a great comparison of these two trucks. One thing to mention is you can get the Tremor with the XLT trim. All the same mechanical benefits as your more expensive lariat trim. Just some cloth seats and a few other interior trims.
The ZR2 isnt the same as the Tremor though. A more compatible trim from the Colorado would be the Z71 off road. It also lacks the front diff locker, and has the same payload as the Tremor.
The reason the ZR2 payload is lower is because of the multumatic Dampener suspension. It's softer, and is better for off road articulation.
I just bought a Ford Ranger Tremor because of your videos. I got the Ranger for the turbo. I plan to explore the mountains on the eastern seaboard so the turbo will be useful for that plus the towing capacity cant be beat. Thank you so much for your videos they have been incredibly helpful
2019 Saber XL FX4 built my own Tremor 2” BDS leveling kit and 265/70R17 on a set of charcoal stock wheels! My next purchase is a set of rock sliders. Love my truck comfortable and great power.
I think I'm more impressed how some modern top of the line off road trucks are really well equipped even stock, without any modifications.
The difference in speed between the two is the entire reason the Ranger didn't make it through at first.
I have said this before and I will say it again. I wish they would be consistent in testing. For example, each should drive each truck on the course.
And the Ranger had to make path for the chevy while having a shitty driver behind the wheel compared to the chevy.
@@filibertofonseca8083 They took different lines...moot point
They should have used 4 low
The difference in speed is because the Ranger isn't confidence inspiring at speed. The Colorado has better tires and superior suspension to hit higher speeds in that obstacle
Trucks are really equal. Chevy has the front locker and the ranger has fantastic hauling capabilities but the tires made the zr2 better in the mud. Tires being the same I'm going for the tremor
Both r great , I'd take the Zr2. And a round of applause for Mr. Dad Cam for great footage 👏🏽
For looks, the ZR2 is the easy winner for me and for pure off-roading it seems slightly better with the tires and front locker. That being said it seems like the Ranger may be the better all around option especially if used for towing? Either way great vids. Nice to have that land to play with!
Not sure I’d say easy winner, but more serious off road capability always takes the cake for me. Front lockers? I’m in!
The Ford isn’t good for anything
If it's for more of a drive around and play truck zr2 hands down. If it's more for work I would have to take the bigger payload of the ranger into consideration
bigger payload? 1,430 for the ford tremor, 1,460 lbs for the chevy zr2.
it doesnt have a bigger payload.
and towing, 7500 for the ford versus 7000 for the chevy? If youre maxing out either of these trucks at 7k you need to get yourself a larger v8 truck.
@@t_c5266 zr2 maxes at 5000lbs towing. 2500 lbs is a substantial difference.
the Styling on the ZR2 looks amazing
Through the mud, you carried more speed and a more aggressive line through the mud pit. Basically same price, I’d take the higher towing / payload rating, for when you’re using it as a truck instead of a Jeep.
The Ranger Tremor (FX4 Max in other markets like Australia) is a compromise vehicle for both off road and towing as well as general on-road usage while still maintaining decent cargo carrying ability, it is still not a direct competitor to the ZR2 which does not have the same overall all around ability, the Ranger Raptor on the other hand (which is not in the North American market) is the direct competitor to the ZR2 however it would have to be the turbo diesel version as the Ranger Raptor only ha the 2.0L Sequential turbo in line 4 cyl with 10 -speed auto.
The next generation Ranger (due in 2022 for Australia and other non North American markets) from all reports will have the following:
XL/XLS / XLT
- 2.0L in-line 4cyl variable geometry turbo diesel with 10- speed auto (as the standard engine (replacing both he current 2.2L and optional 3.2L 5cyl) standard 2WD/4x4 High/Low + Rear diff lock
FX4 Max (re: Tremor in North American market)
- 2.0L sequential turbo (bi-turbo arrangement) with 10-speed auto with full time AWD / 4x4 High and 4x4 Low + rear diff lock and Terrain Management Mode
- 2.3L in-line 4cyl turbo petrol with Plug In Hybrid 14kWh battery electric motor (optional) with 10-speed auto with full time AWD / 4x4 High, 4x4 Low + rear diff lock and Terrain Management
Wildtrak (top line specification)
- 2.3L in-line 4cyl turbo petrol with Plug In Hybrid 14kWh battery electric motor with 10-speed auto with full time AWD / 4x4 High, 4x4 Low + rear diff lock and Terrain Management
- 3.0L V6 turbo diesel with 10-speed with full time AWD / 4x4 High, 4x4 Low + rear diff lock and Terrain Management
Ranger Raptor
- 3.0L V6 turbo diesel with 10-speed with full time AWD / 4x4 High, 4x4 Low + front & rear diff lock and Terrain Management
- 3.0L V6 Twin Turbo petrol with 14kWh battery electric motor with 10-speed auto with full time AWD / 4x4 High, 4x4 Low + front & rear diff lock and Terrain Management
The next generation Ranger is also going to be the VW Amarok (for Australia and orher non North American markets) and as such VW have requested that full time AWD be included, it's not know if the North American market will have the VW Amarok as it's not known if Ford USA is going to make that vehicle in house for VW.
I'm taking the Ranger Tremor for sure.
🤮
Gross
I'm a ford guy and I'm telling you absolutely not that motor is a huge pos, if you want one just wait they are going to put a diesel in there and it's pretty sweet.they already have them in the down under.
I have a 17 zr2, if you guys are legit on the fence of what to get pick the zr2
Absolutely just the numbers, with the trq 10 spd and tow rating alone I'd take the ranger every time
I own a Colorado Z71. I actually looked at the ZR2 when I purchased my Colorado. The turn off for me was the decreased tow rating. I have a small utility tractor and a square drop camper I tow. I like the Colorado; however, of these 2 trucks I would choose the Ranger Tremor because of the towing ability/rating.
I have a 2021 Colorado Bison edition with the steel bumper front and rear with built in rear sliders. Also the built in winch and an awesome comfortable ride. With a Yakima rack and Roof Top Tent, I don't need tow capacity and with front and rear lockers it is suited best for over landing and rock terrain. Almost bought a Ford, but they couldn't get inventory. I'm grateful for that. Bison is wider, tougher looking and IMO proven. Love your videos guys. Entertaining as hell. CC Ontario.
Truck King: Please do the exact same testing with the ZR2 vs the TRD Pro.
This.
Being a strictly off-road competition...ZR2 wins hands-down. Better tires, softer ride on the trails. And IMHO, better looking! But c’mon, they’re both pretty awesome!
Agreed 👍
Anyone that’s off roads knows the first one in the mud hole struggles to open the hole up , making it easier for second vehicle so comparison sucks not counting two different drivers . Just my opinion
I truly appreciate your actually testing these trucks as they designed/marketed to be used -- off road.
The ZR2 might have a better ride and front locker for serious crawling, but the ranger has a better powertrain and looks. They're actually pretty darn close, and if tires were a determining factor for any part of the testing, tires people often change out to a different brand when the OEs have worn out, so why not test them both with the same to see what difference it makes on each?
All aside, I do not like the looks of the ZR2, I think the update is a bit of a step backwards -- the forthcoming Colorado changes that! That said, this current generation Ranger is a better looking truck, which I can't say about the forthcoming generation.
Every vehicles should have a celling handle on passage side, specially off road vehicles
yeah its on the bar that the windshield is almost the cieling but ive driven my colorado and want one on my side when making fast left turns lol
I drive the ZR2 for work in the oilfield and it has been great!!!!
Definitely the Tremor.. kinda biased I have one on order ;)
I love mine definitely worth the wait.....
Yes I thumbed up even though I'm ZR2. Cheers bud - enjoy the truck :)
@@americancitizen1885 The Ranger may be a little stiffer but it’s really planted on the road I noticed But the extra leaf spring in the back and the piggyback fox shocks is going to be really nice for towing.....And on washboard the suspension is really great....
An important thing not discussed is the longevity of your engine.
A high compression turbo 4 versus a naturally aspirated v6. No matter what way you slice it, going through the same paces the turbo 4 is going to die sooner.

the zr2 has terrible towing and I do a lot of that so i think i would just put better tires in the Ranger.
@@davidduren1426 because the ZR2 wasn't engineered to tow. Its a lifestyle truck. Buy the standard colorado with an available 7700 lb capacity if you want to tow. Same with the raptor and its 8200 pound tow capacity vs the standard f150s 8-12k row capacity.
@@LPM84. Did yoi miss the part where the Ranger made it through all the obstacles, + still can tow 7'500lb !!
I have to agree, I like the ZR2's looks much better than the Ranger. The front locker option in the ZR2 would be nice if it was available in 4Hi, not just 4Lo.
A front locker is for crawling and straight line stuff. You would never use it in 4hi
I would go with the Chevy. For ride when you are not off road. It is nice to see the ranger back
Wish they could put the Duratrac’s on Ranger as well. Regardless having a front locker is big sell plus the ability to add a turbo afterwards would make it far superior versus an engine that is already close to its limits. Plus a transmission with too many gears do not work well off road.
Ford has a tune that brings the hp to 320 and tq to 355
I'll be replacing my 6" lifted F150 with a Ranger Tremor. Great videos!! Thank you for the information
As far as the Ranger ride goes, my experience is that it softens quite a bit after the break-in (10,000 miles). Also, the valving of Fox shocks seem to stiffen when encountering fast & hard bumps.
Have the Ranger xlt. I added a 2 inch lift and front locker and 33inch mud terrain tyres. Great offroader
If you want an Offroad Toy, The ZR2 hands down. Those Trails don't require 4 low or a locker even in the rear. Not a serious test of either trucks capabilities if 4wd low isn't used.
Ranger Tremor should really be compared against a Canyon AT4.
No light duty city boy off-road shenanigans from these guys. Just real deal, real world trail testing. Going on un-manicured dirt roads, and service trails. Wheelin in the thick of it! Great comparison. I like the ranger. It ticks all the boxes for off road goodies. But, I ended up choosing the ZR2 because it offers the same amount of off-road prowlessness, but tops the ranger because of the additional front locker. Having to install an additional locker in the ranger would be costly, and I think that ford dropped the ball on not adding it. You may not always need a front locker, but its there when you do need the additional traction.
Love the Grabber Atx's. They wear great and they're great for what they are. If you want apple's to apple's comparison you would have to put the Grabber X3'S on the Ranger.
It would be cool to see what the front locked differentials can get the ZR2 through over those that only have rear lock.
I think the drive had a lot to do with the results, The zr2 had a great momentum, and constant throttle modulation, vs in the Ranger gas was on and off which I guess didn't help.
yeah, the Ranger went first and the other guy observed what not to do and make adjustments accordingly.
Just fyi No matter which truck you use the 1st one in the mud will always have the most trouble. Because it has to clear away the loose mud. To be completely fair You would need to Make a clear run then repeat both truck After The path has been clears 1st. Ideally with another truck So you would only have to Make one run. But when you test one on a fresh hole versus 1 that's been drove through it's a very Different Situation. Great video though really loved all the info and love that you guys actually got in real mud Situation not some place where Grammy would go lol
You're right - if we could we'd use fresh trails for each run. We are limited.
@@TruckKing I completely understand just giving some of my experience for you guys to use to help with your test thank you for the response and awesome videos!
I just picked up a 2019 Ranger XLT FX4 with a set of Hankook Dynapro AT2 Extremes and am super impressed with what you guys took the little beasty through!
I looked like you took a slightly different track in the ZR2. You went more driver and the front wheel was a bit more in the dry. That seemed to have made all the difference. I know it would be a bit longer video but I would like to see you both drive both trucks to compensate a bit for your different driving styles.
My thoughts too. The driver made the difference.
It was going in educated and with momentum. The ranger would have made it look just as easy with a second run, not just backing up and starting in the middle of the pit.
Exactly. Second driver knew what to avoid and how it should be handled.
On my second ZR2 diesel. What a BEAST!
This is the exact roads we have here in Ontario Canada. Great to see these reviews.
So as the Ranger was bogging down your camera clearly shows the front wheels were turned toward the driver's side with nothing directly in front of the truck. Perhaps straightening the wheels even briefly would have allowed forward momentum to continue. As un any bogging, snow, mud, or sand maintaining momentum is make or break it of getting through......physics.
Thanks for these comparisons, Ford at my local dealer didn't have any rangers, across the street was chevy. thank you once again
ZR2 for sure. Good video!
I’d take the ZR2 , but both trucks evenly matched for most part , great job on the comparison guys ! 👍
Except for towing, payload, on road, cost,
And suspension , front diff locks and looks way better
It's the tires, I'm not a Goodyear fan because they dry rot to fast but the duratrac's I had were great in snow and mud and not obnoxious on the highway
I like how they were like the ranger in stuck put it in reverse and they back straight out and pull out. That's not what I would call stuck
I would choose the Ranger. Good off road capabilities, as demonstrated, and better payload and tow ratings. I'm inclined to add a camper top for my specific uses.
Not to menton power and fuel mileage...
I usually run Toyos but those Goodyear’s are good.
It’d be nice to see the ranger with the same tires
Good fun guys!
Can’t decide between Goodyear or bfgoodrich for all terrain tires
A ranger raptor might be the only vehicle that'll make me think about trading in my 2018 zr2.
Haha don't be stupid. The ranger has zero flex in it's suspension, 1 locker, no diesel option, it's twin turbo vs NA and reliability is terrible so far out of the gate.
@@samduran5180 the Ranger Raptor isn’t even out yet
@@samduran5180 yea like the Chevy has good reliability? 😂
@@bobwhite4671 By far better than Ford.
@@samduran5180 maybe according to you but not consumer reports, Chevy is consistently bottom of the list for reliability.
I’ve come close the pulling the trigger on a ZR2 a couple time just because of the suspension but the lack of safety tech and no push button start keep me away. If I had to buy one tomorrow it would be the Ranger but I’ve waited this long. I’ll wait and see what the redesign looks like at the end of the year. Hopefully the interior will get a much needed refresh. Either way great vid been looking forward to seeing it.
I would pick the ranger because I have my 2001 edge ranger 4x4 with over 230000 miles on it and still strong. I never have luck with Chevy trucks. That one looks better than the ranger . Good video and dad great job .
Tremor. But honestly with either truck first thing I'd do is upgrade the tires.
Have a 2020 ford ranger with fx4 and love it. Had some wire issues which cause electric issues and ford can't seem to figure out but thankfully everything is covered for free.
Both great trucks. Ford got my money though. I prefer having the towing ability and think they look a little better. My biggest complaint about them is the back seat doesn't fold down flat like the chevy. I loved having a 60/40 flat folding back seat for hauling tools and stuff you don't want to keep in the bed.
I drove the Tacoma, Colorado, & Ranger. Eliminated the Tacoma early due to horrid seats & an anemic powertrain. The Ranger Tremor & ZR2 are so close IMO … really like the smoothness of the Ranger, but the ZR2’s capability ultimately swayed me into grabbing a ‘21, which I’ve since leveled and added 33s. Now, if Ford brings the Ranger Raptor to North America … that will have my full attention. 👍🏻🇨🇦
The ZR2 would be my choice . Great vid . Cheers
Awesome video and I'll take a ranger tremor I really wish I would have waited to get one instead of my 2019 ranger super cab model with the fx4 package and chrome package and XLT
I have the gmc canyon. My neighbor has a ranger. Even though his is rated to pull a little more, mine feels better doing it. Also I have hadvto pull him out of his yard from getting stuck trying to get his landscape trailer out. Then pulled the trailer out. Daily he kills me on gas mileage though!
biggest win for me with the ZR2 it doesn't have auto stop-start. it has just enough tech to not be annoying.
