This set of variations on a well-known Japanese folk melody on the theme of cherry blossoms might seem to present a cultural clash. Yet the simple serenity of the music, combined with the versatility of the guitar as a universal instrument, are enhanced by the setting of the Alchzar's gardens. The orange trees, flowering shrubs, white stucco arches, and a reflecting pool provide a sixteenth-century setting where East and West meet in perfect harmony.
Did you know that world-famous guitarist John Williams and filmmaker Christopher Nupen studied classical guitar together and that Andrés Segovia was their teacher? John Williams once wrote about the Sakura theme that the spaces between the notes are just as important as the notes themselves.

It's wonderful to put the Japanese melodies on a western instrument like guitar.

Is it me, or is it painfully clear at 1:40 the audio is not in sync with finger movements. Arse whoop'ns for the editor.

One of my favorite JW songs by far. I wonder how he went from writing the Star Wars sound track to Sakura? Lol.

You are thinking about JW, the composer. None of them composed Sakura variations though.

    さくら変奏曲効きました。確かに、琴ノ曲に基づいているようですが、弾き手は難しそうですね。
