    Many many thanks for all the help & suggestions I've received.
    Just a REALLY great looking Hit & Miss Engine, any other hints if you think it could run better, much appreciated as always.

      Thanks Rob, it was fun doing all the woodwork and modding parts for it on my lathe. For a steam engine enthusiast who knows bugger all about internal combustion engines and swore that I wouldn't ever get any.....they have certainly started accumulating 😅😅

      @@SteamEngines-Jim I've been offered one for review a few times from various sellers, but never bothered. The idea of running them inside the house put me off, because of the fumes, but if you watch that aspect it should be OK. Cheers Rob

      @@Xynudu This one was sent to me as a review as well, I run them on Zippo fuel, they put out a LOT of exhaust for their size.....no way could you run them indoors.

    Congratulations on getting the engine working... It runs just great and was really interesting seeing the governor kicking in and out...

    Bonjour Jim,
    I confirm, you have made a beautiful engine and furthermore it is now a real full Hit & Miss, congratulations !
    Based on my other models, perhaps it would run slower if the springs of the governor would be less strong, but it is very diffucult to find different ones to make tests so I didn't change mine either.

      Thank you Raphaël, these are engines that suck down a LOT of ones time aren't they. I have taken 2.5 coils off the governor spring so far and feel I need to take maybe one more off. I don't know whether I need to adjust this or in which direction either? Here's a photo -

      @@SteamEngines-Jim Bonjour Jim,
      I was not referring to this spring but to the ones that are supposely hidden in the flywheel. To my opinion, the one you show me has no impact on the speed and just helps the ignition to be responsive.
      I was also told I could remove one as an alternative but did not test it yet, I am not sure it was for my Enjpmor MK3 or my Microcosm M92.

    Hi Jim. Great to see it finally running 👍👍👍 In the last video you had a spark but it wouldn't fire, what did you do to actually get it to run? Cheers, Alan.

    • @SteamEngines-Jim
      @SteamEngines-Jim  Рік тому +1

      G'day Alan, there were a number of things I did and something fixed the no spark issue.
      I took a little more insulation away on the spark plug wire
      I polished the points with some 2000 W&D
      I resoldered all the joints
      I didn't check after each change.

    Hello there, I've watched all these videos of this engine now and they have been awesome as I've ordered one now as well now from Enginediy and these videos will help me greatly. I really like the red spokes over the original color. Would you please be so kind as to tell me exactly how you achieved them looking so good? Did you paint them by hand or did you spray paint them? I would like to achieve the same look and would be very happy to know how you did it.
    Also how many AA batteries did you end up using?
    Thanking you in advance.

    • @SteamEngines-Jim
      @SteamEngines-Jim  Рік тому

      You'll be happy with the engine, they look great and just take things s-l-o-w when you take it out of the box and start putting it together. I spray painted the spokes by covering the rims with electrical tape and stretching it around. Takes sometime but the more you spend on doing that the less clean up. I am only using 3 x AA batteries in a 4 x battery holder with 1 x dummy AA battery. Enjoy your engine when it comes!

      Enginediy, if you get one go slow with any changes you make. Write down and take pics so you can easily get back to factory settings. Half the fun of these engines is getting them to run really well.

    It would be nice to make a screw adjuster to fine tune that spring tension. Maybe a fixed possition screw with a block threaded onto it to attach the spring. When the screw is turned it would move the block with the spring attached back and forth to adjust the tension

    • @SteamEngines-Jim
      @SteamEngines-Jim  Рік тому

      That would be an ideal solution to a very real problem that so many other folks are having with these. Cutting down springs is pretty 'Hit & Miss' and a spring adjuster would solve all of that.

    Hi I'm interested in purchasing one of these engines, is this from Microcosm?

    • @SteamEngines-Jim
      @SteamEngines-Jim  Рік тому

      No this isn't from Microcosm, its from EngineDIY. I've bought a fair few different H&M engines from China and they used to take up to a month to arrive. They use something called SpeedPak now and for Australia they arrive now in around 4 days. Here's the link to where I bought mine -

    Super excited to see it running! This video shows the way I put washers in my governor to keep the weights from getting stuck against the cam gear. ua-cam.com/video/SnSEaohfe-Y/v-deo.html
    Those washers, a softer spring, and making sure the latch pawl was hooking correctly on the pushrod to hold the exhaust open is how I got mine to run more slowly.
