This song makes me cry every time I hear it. Especially knowing about his daughter. The song is wonderful.
I’d have never known about Tengri if I hadn’t discovered Dimash in 2017 I am singer. Dimash sang the swan goose duet (which you featured) with Tengri and I then went back to find what Tengri had done before and found Heaven. It’s so unusual and captivating. Then found Hua Chenyu and Terry Lin. These oriental singers are a breath of fresh air to western music.

I totally agree with all you have said, it all started with Dimash! Because of him, I wanted to find out about the other singers shown. I didn’t even know about Jessie J either because I do not listen to much of today’s music. But to me, Dimash and Hua Hua has got the most genius level talent and creativity. They know how to make even covers their own. But I love the others as well.

Word is that Tengri was quite a succesvol Mongolian singer. But when his daughter died at an early age, he shaved his head and never gave a performance till he appeared on the Singer. The song has a double meaning. It is not only about the dead of his daughter but also about the 'dead' of his land due to increasing industralisation. Indeed, the song makes you long for galopping the vast and peaceful fields. (Please correct me if I'm wrong in the before description, it is hear say)
The song is all sung in Chinese, except that the last line is in traditional Mongolian, Tengger is Chinese Mongolian,Living in China Inner Mongolia, not Outer Mongolia！
Most of your remaining understandings are correct, and English cannot translate the meaning and mystery of Chinese! Ten Chinese words need dozens of English words to be translated!

Yay!! Love this song and Tengri, always gets me. First time I listened without subs and cried a lot just for the pure emotion he put in his performance. This song was also sung by Hua Chenyu and Zhou Shen together with Tengre sang a version of a kind of mix Heaven of Big fish
there's a sad background to this as he lost his six year old daughter to illness and waw very much singing ths with her in mind.

It is the famous Hua Chen Yu (nicknamed Hua Hua) who later composed his famous song "7 Personalities" incorporating those sounds, so exotic to our ears, marvelous. You see a little of the "grit" in Dimash's voice in "The story of one sky", but you're right Dimash's mostly known for the very clean singing.
Oooh...Tengri! This is what I love about Chinese music. I commented about this in, I think, one of your videos on SB19. Because I'm Filipino-Chinese, I'm also exposed to Chinese music and have been wishing we can also do the same for our music in the Philippines. China really does it so well, combining their traditional/cultural styles of music into modern music.

@@BABYMONSTER_RORA_RAMI_AHYEON please read previous comments. I know Tengri is Mongolian. He literally shows in his music his Mongolian culture by using Mongolia’s indigenous instruments & singing Mongolian chants.
My point is that I like the music that is coming out of China because they have been doing these kinds of things wherein they are able to show their people’s culture even in modern music. He is technically Mongolian-Chinese. He certainly grew up listening to both Mongolian & Chinese music.
Geographically, Inner Mongolia is in China, it is a province of China, while Mongolia itself is a different country. The people in Inner Mongolia are obviously ethnically Mongolian because their province literally is named Inner Mongolia & sits beside the country Mongolia. Bit let us also not remove the fact that there might also be some Chinese because that is a part of China.
An example would be just like Malaysia where the people are ethnically either Malays, Chinese, or Indians. And the music coming out of Malaysia, what I’ve heard so far are some in Malay, some in Chinese, but surely there will also be Indian music. And that is ok.
If you want to see and hear another Mongolian singer, Ayunga is recommended.
He also often sings with Tengri and he was the singer in Superboys with whom Dimash sang the Queen medley.

Please also react to the beautiful duet between Tengri and Zhou Shan; where Tengri sings Zhou Shan's signature song, Big Fish and Zhou Shan sings Tengri's signature song, Heaven (or Paradise). Hua Chenyu also sang a version of Heaven, worth listening to the differences. Another great Mongolian singer is Ayanga. BTW, listen to Dimash's The Story of One Sky - plenty of grit toward the end when he is screaming and pleading "we're choosing life!"
Tengger (Tengri) was born in Otog Banner, Inner Mongolia in the Sainbayar family.[2] Both of his parents were folk singers so he and his four other siblings all aspired to follow suit.[3] Because of an incident in junior high school, he became uninterested in academics.[4] In 1975, while uncertain about his future, he applied and was admitted to Art School of Inner Mongolia.[4] There he briefly studied dance before switching to learning instruments.[4] After graduating, he served as a teacher and conductor.[4] In 1980, he joined College of Music in Tianjin, where he got formal training as a musician.[4]

Another powerhouse artist!!Tengri is really cool n his singing style is unique too. Recently I was very much captivated by his duet performance with Zhou Shen which ZS sang this song and Tengri sang ZS's song. You both def Must react to it. Just search for Big Fish Heaven. As a Mongolian several generations estranged from the country, and culturally cut off, this song and performance always brings tears to my eyes. The green seas of my ancestors have long haunted my dreams.

Actually, you should check out Hua Chenyu's arrangement of this song from "The Next - Season 2 episode 2 " it is very different to Tengri's original but also haunting & beautiful
Great reaction. Tengri is a master. He should be more well known. You also need to also react to his duet with Zhou Shen. Tengri sings Zhou Shen’s Da Yu/Big Fish with Zhou Shen sings Tngri’s Heaven. They do a mashup of the two and incorporate the folk singing. The stage is gorgeous and they sound amazing together.

Hello, I've read your comment so many times but I'm afraid it's wrong. Tengri wrote Heaven in 1997 as an ode to his country, Inner Mongolia, being ravaged by technology. Then, after his daughter passed away in 2010 at the age of 6, Tengri dedicated Heaven to her passing during a concert. It's all in Wikipedia...

In the original version in 1997, it was about the love he has for his country but after his daughter passed away, he changed parts of the song to express his love for her. This is probably not in the English Wikipedia but it's in the Chinese internet. You would have to Google in Chinese to get this information.

Gentlemen, please watch Terry Lin (a.k.a. Dimash's papa Lin), the man who fathered Dimash in China. You will find out that he has also a very good breath control and an amazing singer. I suggest " WRITING'S ON THE WALL" and 'SCARBOROUGH FAIR". When he was singing the first song, Dimash seemed to have enjoying the performance, but when Terry Lin sang the second song, it seems that Dimash was thinking about his personal life. Scarborough Fair may not be your type of song, but the performance itself, blended with the talented Chinese musicians, was superb

I knew Tngri by watching Dimash´s contest and he blew my mind. So soulfull and then like some Mongolian style there. I love it. Chills from beginning to end. Then Hua Chen Yu there also one of my favorite Chinese performers. Watching Hua Chen Yu with his mouth open is telling us there is so special here. There is a very sad story behind this performance. Tengri lost his daughter and he didn´t sing this song for a long time. This was the first time he sang it again. He dedicated it to her. Some Hua Chen Yu´s performances that I love. Speaking of duet with Dimash, I don't think you have seen yet his Duet with the great Wu Tong singing "JASMINE FLOWER." I have seen western singers performing in China with the same song including Celine Dion, but Dimash and Wutong's rendition is the best so far. Obviously, Dimash found his match in the person of Wu Tong.
