- Tune in to this episode of Built by Dan to see the unboxing of Dan’s long awaited Ford GT40 replica kit car and all the kit components / parts supplied to complete the build.
This episode will document the unpacking / unboxing of the GT40 crate, as well as unpacking all the parts/components packed into the crate and chassis of the GT40 and grouping them as best as possible onto the shelving in the garage for ease of access as they are required. Dan also moves the chassis off the crate and onto the chassis stands he designed and had fabricated for the build. A final tidy up and rearranging of the garage and Dan will be ready to start the first step of the build in the next episode!

I love the garage setup. Painted floor and shelving is what I’m going to do with all of my builds.
This is going to be fun to watch. If I could make a suggestion...switch to a lav mic to get rid of a lot of the echo in the audio.

Can’t believe it all fits on one shelf!
I know Ryan, I was shocked! Only items not on that shelf are the side and rear windows as I didn't want to damage them moving them around all the time to access other parts.
Once you get all the stuff out of the interior, the VERY next step should be "sitting in the driver's seat and going vrroooom vrrrrooom" lol Come on, you know you wanna hahahha
I sure did! (Without the vroom vrooms though), I think it got missed in the editing or its in there but at light speed.

Watching The Fresh Beat Band as a very young child there was an episode where they bought a car not knowing they had to put it together themselves and that gave me the dream as a child to build my own car so I hope to someday get my own kit car

I can't imagine how exciting it must be to have a full-sized GT-40 sitting in the garage..
It's fun to see a pristine garage at the start of the build; so many projects are filmed in garages/sheds where you can barely move for other unfinished junk.
Dan there's a guy in the NSW Southern Highlands with a GT40, if I can catch him I'll put him onto your channel, he might be able to offer some insights for this project..

I'm taking delivery of my cobra in November. This is the second one I will have built and this one's going to be vicious with almost 600 horsepower haha. The GT40 kits in America are very expensive they sure are nice though maybe next time. Good luck with your channel

Hello Dan from Utah in the US! Just stumbled onto your channel and subbed! I have done a couple replicas ( Sterling VW based-AKA the Nova for Europe. Also a Prova Countach built some 30 Yrs ago and sold on, only to re acquire it 4 years ago and doing a refresh on everything presently! Getting new leather interior beginning next week. One day I'd like to do a channel as well, but I'm a little tech challenged! Cheers, and good luck with the build! I'll be watching!

The channel does require a broad set of skills if you intend to do it all yourself, but there are plenty of opportunities to outsource as well. I've really enjoyed developing the new skills myself. I live in international falls Minnesota way up on the Canadian border and in my former life I had a race shop around super dirt late models for Budweiser love engines love vehicles love cars I don't know if this is the first one that you've built but two things keep your shop clean and 30 minutes before you quit for the day make sure you wipe all your tools put them where they belong because it you spend more time hunting for tools if you don't know where they are but this is going to be really fun to watch and I hope that you put out videos with the progress because when you get done with this thing when you get it on the road it's going to be an instant Woody
And thank you for keeping your floors clean the last thing that I did before I shut the lights off at the end of the night was mop the floor

I did the Lambo, as I am an artist and wanted one with my own twist. Stop by and have a look some time. I did put in 100 hrs of blocking as my glass was pretty wavey. Not high $$$ but I did well.

Thanks for the suggestion! I used a wireless mic in my latest video but still managed to stuff the audio when listening on some devices! Working to sort it out for next release. All a learning process!
I stumbled on your channel somehow and as a fellow Aussie which I assume you are I'm really looking forward to this build. My old boss had a GT40 which he raced and was a member of that club. I was lucky enough to have a drive on one occasion although the pedal box was a little too close for my 6' frame to heel and toe comfortably. Good luck with the build.

You should install a lift before you start. Really looking forward to watching the progress.
I've opted to build the car on chassis stands that I've had welded up, this is in line with the manufacturers recommendations (they supply a sketch of a chassis stand suitable to support the vehicle whilst it is being assembled)
@@BuiltbyDan That makes sense, needs to be on a perfectly flat square surface. Who is the manufacturer of this kit? Seems very well made.
The kit is manufacturer by Absolute Pace in Queensland, Australia.
He's only 35, he'll be ok for another 10 years but from my perspective, there is no question that he needs a lift. If it was me I'd buy a good drive-on lift and modify it to lift the chassis flat until it is on it's wheels. Creepers suck. Working 6" from your nose sucks. But that's probably just me. I've wanted to do a GT40 since about 1970 but not realistic.🙂

My dad just bought a GT40 kit that somebody started. It's got a formula 1 engine and trans and runs. I'm not sure what chassis it's on it's got real GT40 wheels breaks etc. It's basically an authentic GT40 with a replica body. Cool car the drivetrain alone is worth more than what he payed but still a lot of work left to do.

All started well before the movie for me, but the movie definitely did make me go back and revisit the idea of building one... and here I am!
Love your channel a lot of good info and work, I’ve got the RCR kit and will be running a 5.2l out of a 2017 gt350 I’m still looking into what transaxle I want to use I’m hoping to find a good automatic because I think it would be a beast with one.

That is a possibility. You'll note in my latest episode I have all the body panels sitting on a pallet in the back corner or the garage. I've sat all the panels on the pallet the way the manufacturer recommends to avoid them warping out of shape.

Subscribed. I couldn't find the manufacturer kit you used. My plan is to get a non-rolling chassis and I assemble suspension/drivetrain to meet local transportation laws.
G'day Darin, Absolute Pace in Queensland Australia. I'm currently working on a new episode to run through the kit in more detail, as well as the 3 stages it is available in, I just opted to purchase all three stages at once.
I was watching you "unbox" it and look at all the cool parts and told my wife "THAT'S a cool kit" she said it was gonna take an awful big Christmas Tree to put that box under it. 😆 Got your power source figured out yet? One of the Aluminator mod crate engines would be super, all one big plug-n-play package. Not to mention all aluminum AND supercharged.
Sounds like you just need to buy a bigger tree! 🤣
I'm looking at going coyote engine, but would ultimately like to install 8 stack injection, so will be going with an n/a engine, not supercharged.

In addition to the mic tip, I recommend getting a gimbal for the camera. It reduces the shaking of the video by quite a lot. Looking forward to more videos from You. New subscriber from San Francisco, Calif.

What's the use of part of the roof ibeing attached to the door, that will be pretty embarrassing to get out of the car in a parking.
All to make it easier to get in and out when they were racing them at Le Mans in the 1960's. Allowed the driver to stand on the seat and then slide down into it. Not overly practical for today's use when parking, but its not exactly a daily driver either.
When someone think UA-cam is a business and a not a passion....It never works out!

G'day whelk, yes this is my home garage. I cleared everything out of it and storing it under my house where I have a large storage area so I had a clean area just for this build.

G'day Fred, the kit is manufactured by Absolute Pace in Queensland Australia. You could probably import a kit into the USA but not sure what that might involve or the cost. The kit alone is approx USD70k.
@@BuiltbyDan Very ambitious project Dan, good luck take your time and do a good job but try not to obsess over every little detail. I'm currently building a 59 corvette resto mod. Original 59 body, SR111 racing chassis, ls2 6.0L, C4 suspension and a Muncie 4 speed. I got like 600 hours it to it so far, it's drivable but far from done. Cheers!
This build will be quite a bit different......not really lol. Just more parts! (oh and your life depends on you doing it right).
To be honest, this is more akin to building a "true" R/C car.
