  • December 20, 1995: the pilots of Flight 965 had no idea that their plane had veered off course leaving them in a parallel valley to where they should have been. They decided to head directly for Rozo airport-unaware that a wall of mountains stood in their way.

    a sad thing about this crash is, they were close to the top when they crashed, had the pilots disengaged the planes speed brake, they would have made it

    • @KuostA
      @KuostA Рік тому +4

      yup. total travesty ugh. shouldn't the speed brakes should have retracted automatically with a TOGA push? or by firewalling the throttles?

      Because they're flying at night, and with no visible horizon, they lost their situational awareness

      As a colombian i know how horrible is to flight at night in this country, over the cities is okay, but when flying over the countryside the nightmare begins.
      You can't distinguish up from down because everything is the same darkness, and you know the mountains are there, you just can't see them.

      @@KuostA the 787 spoilers automatically retract upon application of full engine power. this is the first Boeing aircraft with that feature, and if that technology was invented earlier, it probably would've prevented this incident

    Five passengers, all seated within two rows of each other, survived the initial impact, but one died two days later of his injuries. In addition to the four human survivors, a dog, which had been in a carrier in the cargo hold at the time of the crash, survived the accident.

    They got lost and flew towards the mountains, and they tried to avoid it, except with the speed brakes enabled, they weren't able to avoid it fast and high enough

      Also, pilots are literally trained to land a plane without being able to look out the window. Instrument rating check flights have you land the plane with vision only of the instruments. As long as the plane's systems are well-kept and you know how to use it, you can land the plane like you're pulling into a spot at an empty Walmart parking lot

      If they don't know where the airport is why are they descending. Why couldn't they have told this to the ATC. Yeah they don't have radar to see them but they could have helped them locate where they are

  • @carolharris2401
    @carolharris2401 Рік тому +6

    So basically the pilots are lost and there getting ready to land. If you don't know where you are why the heck are getting ready to land . You want to climb and figure out where you are even if you have to do a go around

    What a pity they just didn't animate the impact... The animation helps out a lot to comprehend the dynamic... This particular plane slide crept around several meters after impact... Even to the point of starting climbing the mountain top which was on the impact route
