Wow. Just wow.What a match. One of the best matches I have watched in a long time in any format. Props to Watanabe who is such a great player. Bailed out his team on one too many occasions, especially at the match point for the Chinese. The Chinese pair too were sporting in their defeat.
THIS IS THE BEST MATCH I'VE EVER SEEN. Watanabe is unbelivable. His opponents are so strong but he made it with Arisa. I got a big goosebumps. I'll watch one more time if I get an enough time.
Such an amazing game and congrats to Yutarisa. But I also want to thank Zheng/Huang for not giving up over the year. YQ had to prepare for olympics by herself with Siwei seriously injured. After loosing olympics final, national championship final, first round of BWC and being split up, they had some many doubts and pain that YQ thought about retiring. Yet they come back winning seven titles in a row with a tight string and finally released themselves in winning BWC last week- one of the major international tournaments. Keep healthy and keep the fighting spirit, the XD now is too exciting with big4.

Wow what a breathtaking match! Zheng/Huang is so freaking hard to beat but THEY DID IT! Must mean a lot for Arisa after what happened last week. The comeback in the first game made all the difference imo.
Zheng/Huang are able to win all the time before this because their opponents used the wrong strategy against them. Almost all of their opponents lift to Zheng Siwei most of the time and that is of course instant kill because Zheng Siwei has a powerful smash that will score points easily. The strategy to defeat Zheng/Huang is: Do not lift to Zheng Siwei and attack them fiercely, must be lightning fast. Most of the pairs completely failed to apply this strategy. Watanabe/Higashino are the only pair who are able to do it almost correct currently (in this match here. They used the completely wrong strategy in their previous encounters), that is why they won this time.

It is like most football defenders know how to defend against Messi but he just slalom through them as though they are not there. The way to beat Zheng & Huang is to overcome your instinct in MXD to smash against the woman player, and instead direct all your smashes against Zheng. Huang can defend very well against man player's smashes and she returns the smashes with interest (Gill's words). Don't let Huang get involved in the game and Zheng will make all the necessary mistakes. Zheng is very weak psychologically. A few mistakes will destroy him completely.

This is not the first time the Japanese had defeated this Chinese pair, they did it in All England Open 2018 as well. The Japanese always had the speed and attack to challenge or even defeat this Chinese pair (can be the real best pair in the world currently) but unfortunately they are inconsistent (won the All England title this year but then lost all of the tournaments after that, their worse form this year is in the two Malaysia tournaments, lost to unseeded pairs like wtf is wrong with them? Why did they play badly?)
congratulation to Watanabe/Higashino!! But I have to say ZSW was not as responsive and fast as he used to be, a lot of time HYQ had to come up and cover for him. Having said that, Watanabe was absolutely brilliant and talented!!! Technically whenever Yuta and Arisa played at their very best performance, this Japanese pair will be able to challenge Zheng/Huang and even could win the match against this giant XD pair... Imagine if watanabe team up with zheng.Both are fast and dont make much error,both have great defense.Zheng is a hard smasher and he can read opponents well so he can keep pressing the opponents till they collapse.If that not enough,watanabe can finish it up with his deadly shot placement,and watanabe is also a tricky master who can do a lot of deception shot to make the opponent team lost position for zheng to finish it off with his hard smash.Probaly the best duo in history if they ever team up
THIS is the final we were hoping for! Miracle shot from Watanabe at 1:15:28 when the Chinese were at match point is simply beyond amazing. Zheng/Huang were smiling at the end because they knew the Japanese gave them another game of a lifetime. Definitely makes my top exciting games list in XD next to Natsir/Ahmad's win in the 2013 world championships.
It is clear that it is 100% wrong to lift the shuttle most of the time when playing against Zheng/Huang as their attack is insane, you will have zero chance if you lift and lift. Watanabe/Higashino did the correct thing in this match i.e. attack Zheng/Huang fiercely and continually, lightning fast (force Huang to the back as well)
it is one of the games the Chinese pair just let it slip through their fingers when homecoming was only two more matches away after half a year on the road competing almost non-stop. the Japanese pair certainly wanted it so badly if not desperately, the victory over their long-term rivals, the win on their home soil... Watanabe always being the creative one, full of skills, this win isn't quite because how a better pair Watanabe and Higashino had become though, it was more of the Chinese pair was not "in full turbo mode or fully alerted by how threatening the next best pair could be when they tolerated a couple of mistakes shared between them". it would have been perfect if the Chinese pair won all of the gold medals they possibly could in the last 6 months since they hit the road, but the "not so early" elimination only is a part of their career, and a part of life in general. their loss to the Japanese pair only enlightens the faces and hearts of the Japanese crowd though, since it was not intentional, then it is good deed "done", happy for the home fans!

Poor defense by Higashimo is a cost for their team and there are countless number of mistakes by higoshino in most matches.. in one of the finals watched she made almost 17 mistakes (including some expected normal defending shots missed) and still they won. Watanabe is an amazing player.
