2001 and Blade Runner 4Ks are, no exaggeration, two of the absolute BEST-looking 4K discs/transfers I have EVER seen so far. The look mind-blowingly *phenomenal*!
Fantastic list. Ive recently bought a 4k blu ray player and a Sony soundbar ( never had multiple speakers. Always relied on my tv speakers ) and ive recently bought most of these. Currently watching the thing. Mind blown. Im 49 so i remember watching it on vhs in the 80's. How times have changed. Keep up the great work 👍
I own every single title that you mentioned and have to agree that they are definitely stunning 4K discs. I also would have included The Matrix films, at least the first one, which also looks great on 4K. Rogue One is probably the best 4K release of all of the Star Wars films which I think would come close to the top ten as well.
This is a solid list. I have several on here already and agree with your choices. For me Pacific Rim is a guilty pleasure. I watch it more than I should and love it every time. That is on my 4K pick up list along with a few here. We are only a couple months from Black Friday sales which is always a good time to pick up titles at highly reduced prices.
Excellent topic and well put together! I appreciate the work you do for the physical media collector. I'll throw in a pitch for another Tom Cruise flick: Oblivion Excellent soundtrack, excellent effects and cinematography and great pacing. If you own the Bluray already it may not be worth it, but if you don't, this 4K disc is one of my favorites for repeat viewings. Passengers is also one of my favorites.
Easily, Kubrick's 4K UHD "2001: A Space Odyssey". I always want to own 2001 on whatever latest/greatest format is at the current time and technology can deliver. Easily THE greatest sci-fi movie of all-time.
I waited quite a while for Edge of Tomorrow to come out on 4k having seen it on cable before. The wait was worth it. I'd also like to see a list of Sci fi movies not on 4k that we need on 4k. My number one pick would be Minority Report.

I don't think Valerian is a sci Fi movie. Movies set in space/other plantes aren't necessarily sci-fi. Completely forgettable other than cool visuals on that beach planet
I would kill for a good 4K of Dark City (Sunshine is a good pick too) - that film is criminally underrated. You know a good 4K remaster with a skillfully done Atmos track would be just be incredible looking and sounding.
@@LobsterPuncher right, and a lot of people had issues with some of the blu rays of Sunshine where the special features would keep popping up during playback of the film. I have never experienced this but it's a common problem a lot of people have had so that right there should warrant a 4k. I'd also like to see one for Pandorum. My copy of the blu ray has horrible audio sync issues that can't be fixed. That's another that could use a 4k release.
Sci Fi is probably my favorite genre. And this I think is the first list you put out where I own every single film! That was awesome. I usually miss at least one. I would add Star Wars. The original trilogy isn't the best transfer, but I would add those to my list.
Total Recall is one I haven't seen mentioned here yet, which I found to be a great presentation of a solid sci-fi film. Agreed on all the films on your list and many mentioned by the other commenters!
I would add "A quiet Place" for sound at least. Such a dynamic sound is rare these days when everything is nothing but big explosions in many movies today.
As a die heard collector I am happy to know that have all of these on 4k already. But sad to know that there wasn't one movie on here i didn't have so i could go out and buy it. 🤣🤣🤣
Great video, Adam! I love sci-fi. Glad to say I already have most of these, but I’m waiting for sales to grab the rest. Actually just watched 2001 last week for the first time on 4K and it blew my mind. A few that I enjoy that you didn’t mention: the Matrix, Ghost in the Shell (the original animated film on 4K is great and I actually had fun with the live action for what it was), and sorry but I just have a lot of fun with the new Star Trek movies and think they look and sound pretty great on 4K
I would add Ghost In The Shell to the list (The 1995 animated Japanese film). Quintessential, must-have sci-fi in my opinion, and mystifyingly cheap in most cases (on Amazon right now for $10.99).
Dark Angel, also known as I come in peace. Total recall looks pretty cool, you mentioned the day after tomorrow I really like Oblivion too. Tom Cruise and Morgan Freeman. Check out the Aleinoid movies.
I grabbed Alita. I was going to wait to see if it would drop again, but I figured $9 was not bad for the 3D + 4K and the excellent review you gave. ~Frank
Prity much on par but I would have included oblivion but I don't really know if the 4k is any good I only have bluray version, would lucy be under the sifi banner
Great list, Adam! I would only quibble with "Interstellar" having good audio. I've found the mix between dialogue and the rest of the audio to be absolute garbage. It's almost a requirement to use subtitles to understand what the characters are saying. And it's not just me and my system. I've heard it from a lot of people who either use the subtitles or have to crank the volume up and down constantly.
Adam, I agree with vast majority of of your picks. Here is my alternative list that excludes your picks. District 9 Upgrade Lucy Annihilation Dredd Prospect Species *Vesper Chronicles (German import 4k) Arrival Moon Oblivion Looper

When I read the title of the video, my mind immediately went to Dune and both Blade Runner films. I know it's not everyone's favourite, but I would also add Tenet to the list.
You guys really gotta pick up - The Fifth Element (UK Version if you can) It's a classic that looks and sounds spectacular in 4k. You wont regret it!
