Full comparison is not done. I'm using Gboard since years and you have missed some of the main features: 1. Gboard does have custom shortcut keywords. In settings, go to Dictionary > Personal dictionary > Language. You can add shortcut words same as you showed for Samsung keyboard. 2. You can do basic Google search right inside GBoard. Like find the correct spelling, definition, images etc. 3. Floating keyboard. Gboard can be made float around anywhere in the screen. 4. Lots of International languages of keyboard can be integrated with GBoard. 5. For some of the International languages, you can literally draw like actual writing.
My gripe with Gboard is the dual language mode. Even when I have it set to English it is still giving me predictions for the secondary language. Tried so many ways to fix this but nothing works. So basically I end up having to type a lot of words completely.
With Gboard I don't have to manually change languages (I speak 3 languages on the daily). Just set how many you want and it'll smartly give predictions based on what you're typing or swiping. With the Samsung Keyboard you have to manually change between languages. The delete gesture on Gboard is just so precise. And you don't have to change toolbars between predictions and emojis, clipboard, etc. I don't know why the ♤♡◇♧ symbols are always there on the Samsung Keyboard. Could have been used for other symbols. On Gboard they're hidden under the • symbol (long press for the ♤♡◇♧ + a note symbol). I was a huge fan of Swiftkey. Then I tried BlackBerry keyboard, Fleksy, and Gboard. I hated Gboard at first but then the features, the flow, the prediction, and everything just works for me. The extra space on the bottom that raises the keyboard higher makes typing so much more comfortable. On Gboard your only option is to use floating keyboard. If you type in landscape mode, Gboard does have a better keyboard because it utilizes the whole screen unlike Samsung's keyboard that places all the letters closer to the middle of the screen. However, Samsung does allow you to split the keyboard in half to make typing much more comfortable without having to reach your thumbs so far. I also hate that an apostrophe doesn't automatically switch back to the letters like almost every single keyboard out there. You have to do a swipe motion from the ?123 button over to the ' if you want the keyboard to change back to letters. That makes typing conjunctions so much slower even once you get used to the swipe motion. If Gboard implements those three features, it would be perfect to me.
The one reason switched back to Gboard is because when using the translation feature it inputs the translated text so you can see what you are typing as you go but the new translation feature on Samsung doesn't do that yet and you have to wait to finish typing before you see the translation. It's a minor extra step but it's annoying when gbaord does it so well.
You can do the text shortcut on Gboard in dictionary when you add a word it asks for a shortcut or abbreviation. Been doing this for years. Great comparison
One major difference where gboard tops was overlooked. For those of us who do multiple languages, Gboard will automatically detect when you want to type in another language and automatically switch the keyboard to said language. That was what won me over from Swype!
Used to rely on Gboard before, but Samsung's takes my vote because of one simple difference: You can set the padding on the left and right side to have ample space. It's extremely annoying to press the letters on the left and right edge when the display is curved. Setting some padding fixes that.

What caused the Samsung keyboard to not spell out certain words? I'll swipe a word and you'll see it populating words them they'll disappear. I had to type the word "disappear". Keyboard did not recognize it as a word.
Seeing how one ui is and how you can customize a lot about the ui experience, i wouldn't doubt Samsung would extend the customization of the keyboard in a goodlock update eventually.
I absolutely love Swiftkey and noticed the Microsoft takeover...ugh....but the only thing I don't like about swiftkey is that my bitmoji won't work with it lol. And I use those a LOT! BUT swiftkey and Gboard are my go-to. Samsung did an update but the keyboard doesn't do swipe predictions well when using with one hand. Gboard gets the swiped word even when I'm going all crazy with the swipes lol. If Swiftkey incorporates bitmoji...game over! Lol awesome video!!!
Biggest drawback of using a 3rd party keyboard on Samsung’s latest Galaxy phones is that the Haptic feedback is not as good as the stock one. Even after manually adjusting, the haptics are never able to match the stock keyboard’s haptics.
Thanks for this comparison. I like both and switch back and forth. Seems like GBoard is a little more accurate for swiping/gliding but I like Samsung's space bar cursor control better than Gboard.
Samsung themes often theme Samsung keyboard, too. I like all 3 keyboards and have used each for a stretch of time but I keep coming back to Gboard. I like the Bitmoji integration. It was mentioned for Samsung so I checked and could only find stickers, not Bitmoji.

Was using Gboard for a while, really liked the customization but came to realize it wasn't as efficient as the standard Samsung Keyboard [on my Note9]. I've come to rely on the long-presses of each letter for the symbols & special characters that otherwise I have to manually look for and select.

I used to love Minuum and Fleksy, but the first seems not developped anymore and the second one doesn't have a swiping feature, so I usually switch from GBoard, SwiftKey and Samsung when I feel a need of change.
I used to love Minuum too, but after a few years not using it I tried again a few months ago and it was all broken.. It's so sad to see such a great and promising app just get abandoned like that
Samsung keyboard with One UI 2.1 also supports undo feature. If you have disabled swipe, two finger swipe left can be used to undo anything you typed or erased and two finger swipe right can be used to redo.
I live a bilingual life and G board it's great for me as I can mix languages on the same phrase and Google even autocorrects each word on their own language. Samsung only recognises the language you have set it up to and you have to manually change the keyboard language if you want it to understand you. Huge difference for my life.
I was a swift key user but I changed to my Samsung keyboard on my note 10 plus for 1 reason which is the use of the spen. If had any other phone I might use gboard or swiftkey.
I've been using Gboard for years. I accidentally selected samsung keyboard again and realize that they have made some real improvements. So, I've decided to give it another try. I don't use swipe or glide. And Google's autocorrect has been frustrating lately. Also, they finally brought Google translate to the samsung keyboard which is really useful for me. Thanks for the video.
GBoard has also text shortcut feature. It's in personal dictionary. dictionary -> personal dictionary -> select language you prefer -> tap plus button to add personal phrase with optional shortcut.
Great video. I also have SwiftKey keyboard. That is my favorite keyboard. I definitely would like to see you do a separate video on that. I really like some of the features of the Samsung keyboard and the Gboard, but I find that SwiftKey is just easier to use for me.
@shartgargler you will find that each keyboard has its strengths and weaknesses. For me SwiftKey is the best if you need a good swiping keyboard that works with great word predictions. I like the fact that I can put arrows on the bottom row for better navigation when editing a sentence.
Gboard is good. Gboard voice recognition is perfect and available in many languages. However, Samsung keyboard is fine tuned with the Samsung phone screen size and aspect ratio and thus fingers reach correctly to the keys hence less typing error. BTW, I am using both the keyboards.
I use Gboard cause I can have language detection and easily switch between my 1st language English and French. Therefore I simply can't start using Samsung keyboard. And also Gboard is better with autocorrection and my language have letters not in English, but I can write A and get Æ and O and get Ø. Thanks for taking your time to read my comment!
As for the predictive test, do you use more on Samsung Keyboard or GBoard? My guess is you use Samsung Keyboard more, that's why it is better in predicting your text. I am still with my Note 8, so my Samsung Keyboard is still sucks here. Does the size of the floating keyboard can be adjusted in Samsung Keyboard? This is not optimize in my Tab A 8 inch with S Pen. Another thing that I like about GBoard is the vibration strength can be adjusted and it can be much stronger than Samsung Keyboard. Samsung keyboard does better in changing languages by sliding left or right on the space bar. The smart feature of changing languages in GBoard is not reliable all the time.
The smart language selection actually works really well on my Note 5. I've made the space bar on my GBoard act as cursor, such a breeze to move between words :)
Im torn between the two, I ALWAYS use Swype and when i change to GBoard it works well then salcks off and the same with the Samsung keyboard starts off swyping great then gets worse the longer i use it and i have notice this much more on the S20 series phones, never had an issue with the s8 and s10 it basically knew what i was going to swpye or give me 2 or 3 options of words. Now i dont know if ive got a setting wrong but that is not happening now whuch is very very frustration. So if you have any recommendations would be much appreciated :-) Cheers

Hey Jimmy I was wondering if you have a video that shows how to change the location of the emoji location while typing sometimes I am typing a word and the pop up location blocks my view
I usually use the Samsung keyboard because feels more integrated in OneUI. There's some small functions when used in Samsung apps and has stylus support specifically for the Spen (I'm a Note9 user) but the software has a negative point to me, at least on OneUI 2.0: I speak more than one language, and the system doesn't auto-detect when I change it. I need to manually press the spacebar to change the dictionary. With Gboard it detects the change on the go. I got used to this already, but that's a small annoyance.
My Samsung phone keyboard keeps on doubling or tripling the letter when I type fast. I tried to switch into Gboard but also encountered the same problem. What do you think should I do?
I love the Gboard customization. Colors, the voice to text, and the buttons seem to be larger. The one thing I dislike about the Samsung keyboard is that no matter what theme I use the color is either black or white

Seeing how one ui is and how you can customize a lot about the ui experience, i wouldn't doubt Samsung would extend the customization of the keyboard in a goodlock update eventually.
Aged like wine 🍷
I literally just discovered the space bar cursor thing yesterday.
good feature there
Samsung themes often theme Samsung keyboard, too. I like all 3 keyboards and have used each for a stretch of time but I keep coming back to Gboard. I like the Bitmoji integration. It was mentioned for Samsung so I checked and could only find stickers, not Bitmoji.
Jimmy, I have to thank you for some of the most useful and informative videos for my Samsung device. You and this other guy that instructs in 2 minutes?
Was using Gboard for a while, really liked the customization but came to realize it wasn't as efficient as the standard Samsung Keyboard [on my Note9]. I've come to rely on the long-presses of each letter for the symbols & special characters that otherwise I have to manually look for and select.
you can turn that on
@JBL King 2
for *Gboard*
go to Settings > Preferences, and enable "Long-press for symbols"
you might have to go down the settings to find it
for *Samsung Keyboard*
go to [Settings > General Management > Keyboard list and default] > Samsung Keyboard > Layout, and enable "Alternative characters"
you might have to go down the settings to find it
One thing I love about Gboard and I use it at least 3 times a day, is the quick clipboard that shows up in suggestions when you copy text. I'm on the beta so idk if you've seen it yet
My keyboard keeps saying some things I try to copy are already saved to my clipboard. Where do I access the clipboard to see what's saved on Samsung keyboard?
@@bekkaunknown126 when you go to type, it should be a right arrow inside of a circle. Press that and four tabs should pop out. It will be the third one. After GIF. It's the clipboard. Select that and all of your recent copies should be there.
SwiftKey all day every day. Keep up the great work bro.
My beef with swiftkey is that it requires Google Search for voice dictation. Like, really, Microsoft?
Great vid! Thanks!
The Samsung keyboard changes its look with every change of theme from the Samsung Theme Store. The keyboard matches the themes along with the native phone app, messaging app, calculator, calendar - any native app.
It's so sad to see such a great and promising app just get abandoned like that
Can you do a comparison between Google messages vs Samsung messages
Samsung keyboard with One UI 2.1 also supports undo feature. If you have disabled swipe, two finger swipe left can be used to undo anything you typed or erased and two finger swipe right can be used to redo.
I live a bilingual life and G board it's great for me as I can mix languages on the same phrase and Google even autocorrects each word on their own language. Samsung only recognises the language you have set it up to and you have to manually change the keyboard language if you want it to understand you. Huge difference for my life.
This is what I needed 👍
Long awaited comparison! Thank you Jimmy!
0:36 Doesn´t appears the lil keyboard on my samsung note 10, how can i set it up? thanks
The Samsung keyboard got updated with translation on One ui 2.1
You should check that out if you haven't.
Thanks for the comment!
@@jimmyispromo oh, it did?! Well... I have a s7 so, yeah
Gotta say, g-board is good with autocorrect.
@@jimmyispromo I was waiting for that one for a long time. I could finally switch back to Samsung keyboard. Gboard is excellent too.
I get switching between the two. They both get better over time.
I’ve only used swiftkey and Samsung. I like both but I miss the dedicated emoji key on the Samsung keyboard.
On the overall, gboard's customisation and usability is more user-friendly to Samsung keyboard.
Yeah I prefer the Gboard over the Samsung keyboard
Also dictation is better with Gboard.
Same I prefer Gboard over any other keyboard tbh
Im torn between the two, I ALWAYS use Swype and when i change to GBoard it works well then salcks off and the same with the Samsung keyboard starts off swyping great then gets worse the longer i use it and i have notice this much more on the S20 series phones, never had an issue with the s8 and s10 it basically knew what i was going to swpye or give me 2 or 3 options of words. Now i dont know if ive got a setting wrong but that is not happening now whuch is very very frustration. So if you have any recommendations would be much appreciated :-) Cheers
You have convinced me to try the Samsung keyboard again. It sucked bigtime a year or so again when I got the S10, my first Samsung phone.
Is it possible to take out the thick bar between the keyboard and the bottom of the phone? Where the downside arrow and the keyboard option stays. This bar takes a considerable amount of the screen. Thxs
Don't see option to switch to different keyboards at bottom. Using note 10+ on oneui 2.1...is that option only on S20 line?
Hey Jimmy I was wondering if you have a video that shows how to change the location of the emoji location while typing sometimes I am typing a word and the pop up location blocks my view
I usually use the Samsung keyboard because feels more integrated in OneUI. There's some small functions when used in Samsung apps and has stylus support specifically for the Spen (I'm a Note9 user) but the software has a negative point to me, at least on OneUI 2.0:
I speak more than one language, and the system doesn't auto-detect when I change it.
Been waiting months for you to do Gboard vs Samsung keyboard thank you
Does it happen to you that when you type fast it corrects a word with the exact previous one?
Keep up the good work. I tell all my customers to use Gboard and Gmessages becasue they tend to be better than the stock.
Google messages hasn't been working well for me lately. Always says
message unable to download?
What type of case are you using on both phones???!!!
Why don't you film in wide mode so your video fits the Samsung screens better?
Hey Jimmy, GBoard does have a text shortcut. I recently found it. But Samsung is better with that. I use GBoard myself. I may switch back to Samsung
I love the Gboard customization. Colors, the voice to text, and the buttons seem to be larger. The one thing I dislike about the Samsung keyboard is that no matter what theme I use the color is either black or white
That is so true
I've been using Gboard in my S10+ for a while and I love it. I've found it easier to use than the standard keyboard plus it has some cool settings. Please keep these great informative videos coming. 👍😀
Great job as always Jimmy. Thank You!
The white bar at the bottom from gesture controls drives me nuts! Why hasn't Samsung provided what the Pixel has for gesture control?
samsung has been doing realy good job lately , but gboard is better at customization and quicker .plus bigger buttons.
Only bad side is Edge Lighting isn't set by Default like my A8. Had to download the app from the Playstore
The primary thing keeping me away from Gboard is that it sits way too low on the bottom of the screen if you're using gesture navigation. It's awkward to type fast on a taller device like a S10+ with the keyboard so low. By default the Samsung keyboard is a little higher on the screen, but you can move they keyboard higher on the screen as well if you want to. The extra space on the bottom that raises the keyboard higher makes typing so much more comfortable. On Gboard your only option is to use floating keyboard.
There are a few other reasons as well if I'm nitpicking.
@@JacksonWalter735 I download the Gboard App. Been using it for months. Compared to the Samsung keyboard. I chose gboard. Before getting the Samsung A8. The first choice was Samsung S8. I don't mind not getting the phone. However the edge lighting I have it. Looks really good on my Samsung A8 currently. Looks very neat
@@tinotse2007 I would love to use Gboard as well. It has more customization and extra features compared to Samsung's keyboard. It just sits way too low at the bottom of the screen when I'm using full screen gesture navigation (it's fine if I use virtual buttons though). On my S10+, the balance is off and it's awkward to type so close to the bottom on Gboard. If Gboard let us raise the keyboard higher (not increase the size of the keys) then I would switch over.
@@JacksonWalter735 currently I'm still using gboard. Wouldn't change back to Samsung. I get to customize the keyboard
How do I put in my keyboard that if I want to switch language in swipe in the space bar?
Text shortcut is present in Gboard
How about the spen for the Note 10 Plus? Samsung Keyboard was great then they added a bunch of buttons up the right side of the writing area and formatting''''s all off. I have to use gboard because it at least is clear. Suggestions?
Very interested in get your take on SwiftKey, that's what I use, but keep wondering what I'm missing on the Samsung keyboard.
What is the smaller phone in the video called?
The gboard does have the option of typing shortcuts in the personal dictionary column.
Speaking about the Gboard. That color of your Gboard is looking really pretty.
I feel like you skipped some MAJOR Gboard features, I'll list a few here:
- Text shortcuts. ( Yes, Gboard has them )
- Built-in translate, useful for when you're talking to non-English speaking people.
- Search; You can search things up and then instantly share the link inside the conversation.
- More symbols. ( There are a few symbols available in Gboard that the Samsung keyboard doesn't have )
- Multilingual typing.
Both keyboards are pretty great tbh, but I'd recommend Gboard if you're interested in Translate, Search, and customization.
I started using gboard today. I also use facemoji keyboard for 2 years. I'm amazed with g board. It has more languages but facemoji has more themes.
What do you think guys gboard or facemoji?
The right side mobile is of which samsung model ?
Appreciate what you have done during this review, very simple and straightfoward. You have gotten my interest to subscribe to you! Keep it up!
The Gboard doesn't have text shortcuts. But it is an inbuilt feature of Android to have Personal Dictionary which is like text shortcuts.
This is the first time the comment section is more informative than the actual video
If you try the gboard how would you get back to the regular keyboard if you don't like it?
I use all three keyboards and I must say I like Gboard and SwiftKey better than the Samsung keyboard. Thank you for making good videos brother. Stay safe and take care. Try out SwiftKey it's great.
You missed out on important features on Samsung Keyboard, including:
- alternate characters visible on the primary keys and just a press and hold away
- Text editing mode that gives precise control over the cursor
- Built-in clipboard
- Hand writing mode (on Galaxy Note lineup)
- Automatic switching between light and dark theme from sunrise to sunset
Good video eitherway...
LOOKING FOR A HELP, I USE ASMSUNG KEYBOARD ONLY BUT SEEING THE SWIPE TO TYPE FEATURE IS NOT WORKING. IS THERE ANY FIX FOR THIS?
Which is better I don't know please reply me
What is the Samsung keyboard app name?
Sir,Is accubattery apps reliable?when 90% charging, this app recommends to stop from charging.
I'll stick to Samsung Keyboard after One UI 2.1 update. They nailed everything. ONLY thing is emoji search its hit and miss.
So if you put the Gboard on a Galaxy device will it have Google emojis or Samsung emojis still?
I use Samsung's keyboard in combination with Grammarly's keyboard. Great video Jimmy. Be blessed.
I did the same with Google keyboard and Grammarly as well. Google and Samsung should come with a grammar feature baked in the keyboard as well. That would be nice.
Hey man, I have a galaxy and every time I download a keyboard app I get a warning saying that the input method can collect everything you type.
I mean, probably every keyboard does that, am I right?
How do i get out of swift key and back to the Samsung key board?
i have google voice typing set...but i know longer see the google logo...why?
For me the biggest advantage of the Samsung keyboard over Gboard is the ability to move the cursor around your typed text after long pressing the space bar and sliding your finger around placing the cursor precisely where you want it much like it is on Apple devices. If Gboard had that feature I’d use it of Samsung’s.
I had no idea you could do this 😯 thanks
You forgot to mention gboard supports spen for handwriting I mainly use swiftkey also swiftkey has better emoji support for displaying automatically when typing gboard does not
