You can read and write individual CV's under the CV tab in JMRI

Yes, but you can do that with a Cab/throttle. If you are simply programming CV by CV (using CV numbers), then why do you need JMRI? Not saying that it’s a bad program, but if a problem or unexpected behavior is encountered when programming using it, stop using JMRI, grab our Manual, read and follow our instructions, then you can read all sheets back. If you find an error in JMRI, let them know. If you made the error, you’ll know better now. JMRI is a great asset, but it cannot be a substitute for the manuals. If you need further help, Our tech support staff is here to help. Thanks for watching. SoundTraxx Customer Support: (970)259-0690 ext. 22 or support@soundtraxx.com

Am I wrong or does JMRI make this entire thing much, much simpler without have to learn all this language?

JMRI can make setting up your decoder easy, but it can also cause problems. If something does not work as expected in JMRI you still need to be able to adjust your CVs to fix it. Our manuals walk you through each CV making it easy to determine the value you want. Also we do not make/support JMRI so we cant help you use it and it will not always be up-to-date with newly released features.
