    Is it risky to buy an amp that turns on but there's no audio coming on?

  • @jaycool5978
    @jaycool5978 5 років тому +2

    To properly test an amp one has to test the output voltage and current. Use both to workout if its has the correct impedance and wattage. Didn't see this to be fair, which should of been one of the first things.

      I was hoping this video would show how to get those numbers through bench test. Not just if the amp is in working condition.
      Would you be able to guide me on how to get wattage with a multimeter?

    Hi, I know this video is old but I have a old high end amplifier(audison vrx) and last time I had it installed was 2012 and one channel stopped working. I opened it up and didn't see anything burnt or "off" looking. I've read about a spray called deoxit, can this be sprayed on anything inside the amp? Or into connection points? Wondering if that could help? Otherwise maybe try your set up to figure it out? Any ideas?

      check the impedance on your grounds, if all else fails there's always ground loop isolators...

    Should the amplifier be slammed hard on the table to bench test it!? I literally caught a technician slamming a tube amplifier onto the tabletop where it was just repaired on by him with new parts soldered in place and everything and he gave it a good slam! Have you ever heard of anything like this? It was a lunch box guitar amplifier... 15W... Plays like a dream and has no issues... OOPS! YES, it was/is mine...

    Any way to test inputs on a factory amp? 07 cts with Bose system.. I have the gmos-10 interface and the warning chimes work but no audio from any of the sources FM , CD Aux etc.. I tested outputs from amp to speakers with tone generator and all checks out.. only thing I can think of is either my interface is defected, or the amp inputs are shot.. any suggestions?

    Hey les I have a pair of Memphis pr components the recommended power is 70 watts RMS I have a hifonics amp that puts out 75 watts RMS in other words would I blow my door speakers if they're getting those extra 5 watt RMS? I've never connected my amp to them bc I'm scared of blowing them being as they cost me 140 per set thanks in advance

    • @Lesscoelectronics

      My advice is this, adjust the max gain output on your amp to match the speakers just before they start to sound distorted, the speaker will tell you when it's had enough. Don't go my numbers, go by what you hear..

    But does this fully test the amp under heavier load ? I can see it's amplifying and no noticable noise. But is it amplifying to spec ?

    Are you still in business for repairs? I’ve got a PPI A404 4 channel Amplifier. It has blown fuse. I’ve opened as I’m not worried about warranty since it’s from the early 90s. I notice nothing burnt or disconnected. Please advise

      Look for cracked power connectors they look like tubes if there cracked there not keeping power and if it’s blown replace them copper feeders

    This was pitiful. You never power up an amp that you know nothing about until you take the cover off and do a quick visual of the parts and probe some of the internals with your multimeter before you power up with no problems. By powering it up like that , you could have done a lot of damage to it. Never trust a second hand amp until you inspect it first.

    • @rmblwgn
      @rmblwgn 4 роки тому

      Im no lowbrow but seriously if an amp is gonna explode from meeting at 12 and then ground then you should be going and getting your money back not attempting a circuitboard repair. most of us ,even the seasoned, are not electrical engineers. I have tested 15 used amps in my short lifetime in this method and every single one has turned on
