As an ADHD girly, I think haunting me would be a chore. The window was left open? Forgot. Something moved? Probably me
same I wouldn't think twice
ME TOOO GIRRRRRL xD
Saaaame 😂
That why I don't believe in ghost make sense more
Is the sink running? Dang, must've forgot to turn it off (never went in the bathroom in the first place)
cindy and ellias not getting haunted by their past lives in vietnam like they deserve is the real horror story here
I'm already haunted by mental illness
I read this in Cindy's voice 😂
@@thepokepoet9482 That does sound like a blink-and-you-miss line from a Cindy review.
As a South-East Asian, I don’t get why ghosts in SEA are so much angrier and more present than those in the West. I wouldn’t feel threatened by an English ghost but if I saw any Filipino ghost, I think I’ll die on the spot from fear. Wasn’t able to sleep much in the Philippines because I was also hyper aware about everything like Elias. Was afraid to see feet standing on by balcony window since the curtains didn’t go all the way down lmao
The generational trauma makes them angrier
@@withcindyso not to jump into this convo while my knowledge of these things is practically nonexistent nor am I Asian. However these things interest me to no end, because while Cindy is (probably only half) joking here, when you think about it it makes sense that folklore like ghosts are typically invented as a way for people in certain cultures to express things like generational trauma, like onryō aka vengeful spirits in Japanese culture and how they become dangerous and spread like a curse that is hard to get rid of. Wildly interesting to think about. Oh on that note: I recently read & highly recommend Ring by Koji Suzuki (the novel that inspired the J-horror boom of the late 90s/early 2000s)
@@withcindy I bet that heat makes them angrier too! I went to Thailand waaaayyyyy back in highschool and the first day I got a nose bleed! The heat is brutal!
Indonesian ghosts are really something as well
From what I've seen and talked about with people from South Eastern and Eastern Asia, it seems to be because in this part of the world, ghost are commonly fairytales to make children behave and be nice to people. You're a dick to somebody? This somebody will come back as a ghost to haunt you and make you pay for all the pain you inflicted to them while living. If there is no traumatic reason for a ghost to linger, it doesn't. When it stays it means it wants vengeance and will inflict it to anybody entering their abode, innocent or not. I think it's also a way to cope with the trauma of knowing something awful happened, and also remembering it so it doesn't happen again and the pain endured isn't minimized nor normalized in the future.
imagine using duolingo to communicate with a ghost speaking a language you're unfamiliar with 😭 HELP
That is literally what I'd have to do cuz how am I gonna get scared if i don't even know wtf the ghosts are saying 😭
I AM SCREAMING
I remember dying from humidity and heat in Vietnam and what shook me the most was that all the locals were dressed like it’s chilly outside and seemed fine while the tourists were wearing as little clothes as possible and still drowning in sweat
THATS SO WILD TO ME we were DYING every day
haha the jackets and coats in the summer are mostly for UV protection. Trust me, we feel the heat too haha
They sound the exact opposite of boys in high school and middle school that would wear shorts in the middle of winter. Us girls would be wearing cute sweaters, jeans, coats, etc. The boys would wear basketball shorts, even when it was freezing out. Even if there was snow on the ground.
It feels the same, it's hot with jacket and hot showing more skin, so rather use jacket and take it off on your destination, plus cover yourself from street polutions
Cindy never misses with the sick food shots. It’s a visual feast.
Yum yum yum 😋
I misread this as "sick foot shots" 😂😭 17:57
Can I just say I really appreciate Cindy’s view on her cultural identity. I also had the angsty cultural disconnect feeling (I’m Pakistani btw), but I’m trying to work through it. At the end of the day it’s all in my head and I don’t need to prove how Pakistani I am to anyone. 🇨🇦🇵🇰
Well said! ❤️❤️
same im pakistani but i relate to her because i never got the angsty cultural disconnect lmao. i understand why people might feel that way but the only thing I was mad about is how bad i was at speaking urdu. In the last 2 years though i really put my mind towards it and lemme tell you my cousins are amazed. Still not fluent but im good enough to converse with so yeah, it's a win for me.
i know what you’re trying to say but it’s definitely not all in your head ❤ it definitely is a real issue and something that others put onto people of colour! i’m indigenous canadian but this whole idea of “not fitting in” or “not being [blank] enough” is still very real to me and is definitely something other poc perpetuate. i know you’re saying not to feel too bad about it but i just think saying that it’s all in your head is downplaying your feelings a little bit because it really isn’t unfortunately. but rising above that and being proud of who you are (and doing what you can to connect with your culture if that’s what you want) is something that i find to be very inspiring and motivating. all the best to you ❤
"i'm not gonna feel bad about it" damn, cindy having the confidence and objectivity i wish i had about my identity !!!!!
I think I grew up to be hyperindependent but finding community is still important !!
9:19 when it comes to sleep paralysis, there is an old folk tale here in Sweden about that feeling when you wake up in terror and feel "suffocated". It is a väsen (a creature/a supernatural being/spirit/connected to the wild), known as a mara, that rides on the chest of its victims (hence the suffocating feeling), gives them nightmares, and in some stories the mara even sucks viability.
Just some a piece of folklore from across the world. Love your videos!❤
I think we have a similar story !!
I’m from the American south and thought I was used to the humidity. Went to Vietnam with my husband and nope. It’s a whole other level of humid. And I still dream about the food. ❤
I WAS DYINGGGGGG
The weather in Northern Vietnam in the summer, especially in Hanoi, is A WHOLE NEW LEVEL of heat and humidity lmfaooo I don't even think deodorant can help me get through the day 😭
Cindy putting the book cover image over Ellias' face was a choice.
Like, I don't know if it was a good choice or a bad choice,, but it was definitely a choice.
*Edited to add:* But more seriously, as an immigrant to these United States, hearing two second-generation Americans discuss their relationship with their parents' culture is so fascinating.
It was def a purposeful choice
it's oddly comforting to hear that you're secure in your identity as an asian american. i personally have a lot of experience in feeling embarrassed and angsting over the fact that i'm disconnected from my culture (i can barely string together a coherent sentence in vietnamese 💀), but i kinda appreciate the way that you're... content?? you don't let kt bother you too much?? (idk how to describe it lol)
just my two cents as a fellow vietnamese american. anyways, rant over. thanks for such a funny video. you're probably one of my biggest inspirations, cindy!!
Thank u!! I think it's very common to feel that way. Have u thought of ways to better connect with Vietnamese culture? Idk what it says about MY character that I don't care enough to... I think I grew up learning to be very hyper independent and in a way have to learn to find my own community even if it's not cultural
i can only imagine tolya getting scared by the story and scooching towards tamar and then feeling better, and my heart cant take it
And so it is canon
I’m biracial, Vietnamese American and white. My mom was adopted by a white family from Vietnam so we have no cultural roots. It definitely gives me, “I’m not Asian enough” but also, I’m so othered as I’m constantly asked my ethnicity and “where I’m from.”
I appreciate you mentioning the topic. Makes me feel less alone. 🥲
I find that to be a very common experience for adoptees and biracial ppl!! I hope there are still ways for you to find your community ❤️
17:44 I want to be “I’m so unobservant of other people who are alive” level of iconic.
It would be a big issue if I ever got kidnapped tho
6:36 I love Jhumpa Lahiri for the reason that not only is she a good writer but so articulate about the ‘neither here nor there’ situation.
i'm a vietnamese who has been subscribed to your channel for 4 years, since i was basically a kid. I want to say thank you soooo much. You won't understand how you influence my mindset, my sense of humour, and my use of language. Things you shared in the old novel writing videos, really gave me motivation and kept me alive during those difficult times. I want to say thank you so much 😭😭😭 Mãi yêu chị Cindy
omggggg 😭 thank u so much! wow look at us growing together hehe
you should read Build Your House Around My Body! It's a great horror that takes place in Vietnam and spans across so many great themes (generational trauma?) One of my favorite books ever, touches on things that are very different than most other horror I've read (also talks about the humidity a good amount lol)
Sounds great! Ty for the rec ☺️
cindys bun in the first scene when explaining she is a haunting actually made me giggle im so sorry
I look like a carrot
If you need an Asian horror playlist to read this, you should try Hello Kitty by Avril Lavigne in reverse.
That already sounds terrifying to imagine
Cindy does not miss with the travel vlogs and the reviews. I felt very much the same about She Is A Haunting - it had YA can't-just-tell-someone-something-syndrome
It was painfully too YA debut for me
Your perspectives on being Asian American and traveling between America & Vietnam were a really interesting aspect of this video. Thank you for being so willing to have that vulnerability & so openly and candidly speak about ur own relationships to & perceptions of the diaspora and navigating the world as Asian Americans.
Also, ur senses of humor are so superior & u fr had me cracking up the entire video. You really remind me of my best friend & I, except he doesn’t read 🤦🏽♀️
Thank u!! Glad to be the literate version of ur friend hehe
Another book rec with similar themes and also set in Vietnam I would recommend is Build Your House Around My Body by Violet Kupersmith. I found it more creepy than scary but it follows multiple timelines that all start to intersect as the story progresses.
Ooo ty for the rec it sounds good !!
seeing you promote see you in my 19th life made me scream “YEAAAAAAAH” out loud. easily my favorite romance manhwa i hope you enjoy it
Hehe thank u!! What do you think of the Netflix adaptation, is it worth watching
i haven’t watched it yet tbh. my friend did and said it’s not as good as the OG but also it’s kinda hard for an adaptation to live up to such webtoon.
this is so funny to me because i visited the philippines earlier this summer and even though it is vietnam, the humidity and the heat is so on point! and y’all talking about the locals wearing coats and face masks…that’s exactly how filipinos are too😭😭 like they KNOW we’re american with our shorts and tank tops💀💀
I was literally drenched in sweat every day I was DISGUSTING
See You in my 19th Life was so good!! Please read the spin-off episodes!!
👀👀👀👀
Cindy and ellias should do ghost hunting vlogs called hauntwithcindy
Omg that would be fun actually !! Since Ellias believes in ghosts and I don't
i rmemeber before cindy did zero disclaimers since the ppl who r gonna get offended will get offended anyway but now she has to do disclaimers bc of the authors not even the fans 😭
I feel like I gotta warn them which is dumb bc they should be better at this 😭
“The father leaving his family” is the most relatable & triggering thing I’ve heard today. I feel the need to point out that the haunted house seems too quiet to be a Vietnamese home. No obnoxious loud voices & no drunk dad singing karaoke with his friends along with the lingering ghosts. That was my toxic, I mean typical, family home while growing up. My kids are viet and hmong & they only know a few words in both languages: eat, crazy, don’t touch, hurry up, etc. 😆 we have failed them.
so true, maybe thats how u know a viet house is haunted, when its too quiet!!
Super late but Cindy as someone who’s Indian American I totally feel you on the “not really struggling with your Asian identity” bit. Like for me, I’m not super connected to my culture but it’s still my culture lmao. I may be more American than Indian (and I’m fine and happy with that) but I’m still Indian enough. Anyways the point I wanted to make is I’m begging more Asian American authors to start writing about characters who are secure and confident in their identity. It’s def important to explore that struggle but I feel like that’s the only narrative out there rn, and I just want to see something different.
Yes totally agree!! It sucks that publishing only looks for POC stories that are ABOUT identity issues bc even tho that's a valid part for many POC stories, it's not the ONLY story we have
I'm from Kashmir and I grew up in America, I've always felt "too American" bc I grew up here and only know a little of the language, I'm also not very connected to the culture but recently I've started to feel way less insecure about it. (Also I just read She Is A Haunting and got so excited to see it in one of your videos!)
proud of u for being less insecure about it
7:27 What a lovely mirror!
7:29 What a lovely shop!
7:44 Such cute souvenirs
The shop was super cute !!
Not Ellias being the only one who got scared and he didn’t even read it bahaha
Typical of him
If you ever consider travelling to Europe again I can heartily recommend the Baltics (Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia). Vilnius was so pretty I still think about it a lot 🥺 Eastern Europe in general is super underrated!
Thanks for the recs!! I definitely have a lot more to explore with Europe!
Eesti ❤❤❤❤
Now, this is what I call cultural immersion
Yesssss in the thick of it !!
I really like that Pink hair on Ellias. Always a treat to watch you guys traveling to new places so we can live vicariously through you ❤. Also, I just noticed the cute mushroom behind you on the bookshelf and the Mistborn books. I don’t think I’ve ever seen you discuss them before. Love that series.
thats my friends bookshelf!!
cindy and a see you in my 19th life crossover is what i never expected!! i definitely recommend watching the kdrama if you're into that, it's currently ongoing and really good though there are some changes compared to the webtoon. anyway gonna continue watching the video lol love it when you do book reviews w elias!
do u like the webtoon better or the tv show??
Stoppp, I enjoyed every moment of this vlog! 😂❤
Elias pink hair was so fucking lit
He low-key regretted the blonde hair afterward lol
yay a new video, i love watching your videos Cindy always makes my day better... ❤
You're the best!
you guys are literally my favorite
I do admit missing Ellias as I edited this video
@@withcindynext time u see him make sure to give him a big ol smooch 👹
I was about to sleep but it can wait since we have a new vlog to watch.
Hope u get some rest ❤️
0:41 You’ve really chosen quite the book. It’s like all the book planets were aligning in your favour.
Thank you Cindy for feeding us < 3
You are so welcome 🤗
Loved this video! ❤ it's always great to see you and Ellias together!
I read She is a Haunting in May, and I have mixed feelings about it...
me too, it couldve been so much better
Vlogs + books>>>>
❤️❤️❤️
You didn’t just read a horror story you lived one too when we went on that death bridge in Hanoi 😭
FORREAL 😭😭😭
Omg as a Filipino person who’s forgotten to unsubscribe from your channel ever since the iconic Exes and Ohs video I just wanna say thank you.
Like you changed my life forever and yes Elias is such a ya protagonist that he’d let go of a breath he forgot he was holding.
And also I’ve yet to read crooked kingdom because of you. Gotta get to that.
Elias acting like he’s possessed > Horror movie protagonists in Indian movies
13:00 OMG love the tattoo! Very cool design 👏🏽
Thank u!! It was flash art hehe
@@withcindy Sorry for the error.
And another great video, thank you !
Glad you enjoyed it!
Gotta love the new live adaption of she is a hunting starting Elliott and Cindy
We love authentic casting
2:44 I mean, heat and humidity can be the cornerstone of horror.
Heat rly does make a difference tbh
Also I realized that we match! I recently got sunflower 🌻 dungarees and I am obsessed
Omg twinsies !!
my day is automatically better
🥺 ur too sweet
as someone who grew up in vietnam and moved to america, then coming back, so much changes. people see you so differently
12:45 What a lovely performance 👏🏽
Hi Cindy i love your videos!❤️❤️😊
Thanks so much!!
@@withcindy youre welcome❤️
4:46 Not me screaming “Joy Ride!” and “The Namesake!” as you say this.
Hi Cindy! I was wondering where you got that dope AF “Touis Vuitton” shirt in this video. I would love one ❤️
Ellias found it at a street vendor in Thailand!
"The veil is thin here!" 😂😂😂
Hey sorry for the late response. But I really love your videos I used to be known as Black Pink love! My father died recently because of suicide and your videos helped me a lot during my depression era. And a lot of my friends loved all the books you like. I’m going to save up for your next fan meet and greet! I also love that you respond to every person! It’s so genuine and sweet and the non toxic drama we need
i'm so sorry to hear about your father. i hope your family is doing okay
I love you Cindy. I initially thought this video wouldn't be for me, cause I dont like horror plots so much, especially in books I dont. Also I felt like I might not be able to relate to the Vietnamese or Vietnamese American identity of the protagonist.... I have never been very curious about Vietnam, cause I am not a fan of the climate... I mostly only gravitate towards colder and less humid climates (regions). I am sure I will regret saying this one day. I should know better. One day I will probably eat my words ^^. I tend to think I won't like sth, and then I prove myself wrong a little later. I should have learned the lesson by now.
Anyway I was going to say that I was so surprised by this video! I ended up loving it!!! Especially the sponsorhip integration. And that's def sth I have never said before. Last video and this video I loved them. I have been so curious about Temu and now feel less worried to check them out. And this video I was excited, cause my favorite show is currently "See you in my 19th life" ... - I also love the Soulmate trope and stories about reincarnation. So I can't wait to check out the book/manga/graphic novel to immediately spoil the ending for myself 😅😅😅😅
U can avoid temu! I'm still in the middle of rescinding my contract with them. I'm glad u still enjoyed this video though ❤️
@@withcindy wow ok thanx for the candour ❤️
This was one of my anticipated reads of the year. But then I saw a lot of three stars. I decided to wait until I watched or read more reviews. It is an interesting premise, and it not being scary isn't a dealbreaker. But I am now hesitant to even giving it a shot.
it def is 3 stars lol u should come with low expectations
I love you so much Cindy! Please please read Sinner by Maggie steifvater! It’s my favourite book
What's it about
10:40 “Hey, Siri! Can you translate ‘I’m s**t scared and don’t want a true crime podcast in my name’ in Vietnamese?”
SIRI HELP ME GTFO
You two have the same lisp. I could barely tell y’all apart when I was just listening 😂
14:01 Press F in the chat for Elias and the Giant Peach.
Hehehe, my Inception plan to get you to read this book worked lmao 🤣 Definitely agree that the middle was middling, but I really liked the ending--very cinematic lol
but why did homegirl only grieve for her dad and mentioned therapy for like 5 seconds LOL
@@withcindy cuz she's too cool... or actually a sociopath, lmao, take ur pick
Spoiler: I just reallllly liked that she called the ghost a "colonizer bitch" and burned the house down 😂
1:17 grew up reading webtoons especially the one that is mentioned in the ad already read 😅
My gf is getting into them too! She loved cursed princess club
Have you ever read the book Teeth by Hannah Moskowitz? I think it would be so fun to watch you review it
feeling the main character at 4:17 right now, currently staying in the country (and in the village) where my parents grew up, I haven't been here since i was really small and its kind of surreal thinking about how in an alternate universe i wouldve grown up here and be speaking the language fluently and i would know who all these relatives are and would have some sort of connection with them.
Omg I had a similar thought while I was in Vietnam too, like in an alternate universe if my parents had stayed in Vietnam and I have been born there I would have had a completely different life
Have you read "build your house around my body"? So curious about your thoughts!
3:23 I used to live in a cold region so when I’d go to city (hot and humid), I’d switch on the fan due to the heat and my relatives would be perplexed.
All the clips of vietnam are so beautiful like its just such a pretty country (that i would unfortunately pass away in due to the heat T.T)
u and victoria would die for sure
Speaking of spooky books have you read Chlorine by Jade Song? I think I remember seeing it on one of your lists a while back???
I haven't even heard of it! What's it about?
@@withcindy It’s about a girl who’s whole life revolves around swimming to the point where she starts to believe she’s a mermaid. After years of trauma and stress trying to please her parents, coach and teammates she finally breaks down and decides it’s time to shed her human skin 👀.
“Ren dreams of chlorine. It’s scent. The feel of it on her skin. And she will do anything to make a life where she can be free. No matter the pain. No matter what anyone else thinks. No matter how much blood she has to spill.”
She also gets into some LGBT shenanigans.
I finished reading this last week! I had to stop reading it a lot just so I could digest the chapter beforehand. I'm glad I read it, but I don't think it's something I'll reread. When I finished it, my first two thoughts were "Yay! I finished it!" and also hoping we could get a television adaptation where you can really let the haunting be slow and marinate in the horror. A lot of the horror was psychological, and I don't think 300 pages was enough. Like when Lilly had a parasite in the back of her skull? I wish there was slightly more focus on Lilly and how the house is slowly getting to her. Same with the dad dying in the end. I could feel that I wanted to feel catharsis, but there wasn't any for me.
Plus, I kept flipping back to look at the cover, which I think is awesome. If we could have gotten visuals like that to follow along with in the story, it could have been far more unsettling. Maybe I'm just used to children's books and this isn't typical in adult chapter books, but even a drawing at the beginning of the chapter, or a drawing to go along with the poetry. Something. I also thought that since I never really read things with adults as the target audience, I would have been shitting my pants. But I never really found it scary. I still liked the book though, but not really something I reccomended to friends afterward.
****SPOILERS****** i feel like the dad dying and her briefly grieving over the death for like 1 chapter was so sudden. it was like... ok?? lol it def had pacing issues and could have been way creepier!
I love u Cindy
Love u too bb 😚
9:49 The Ryan and Shane flashbacks I got from this is insane
We should film ourselves ghost hunting
please please please read Fourth Wing. I’m dying to know what you think
Another great book review and discussion, thanks Cindy! So question for everyone who read "She is a Haunting." How does it end? I was looking everywhere for a more clear description of the ending, but never found one. I have no intention of reading the book since horror doesn't jive with me, but I am curious about the ending. Thanks!
jade plans to burn down the house but has one final meal with her dad and her little sister inside where they consume like these insects and parasites that have been controlling her dad (there is some mild horror because the little sister is vegetarian and has been unknowingly fed insects at every meal and it makes both of the girls weirdly ravenous for some reason), then jade slathers the house in gasoline. her dad is too far gone so he remains inside as it burns down with the hauntings and gross history of colonialism and slavery with it!
Spoiler below:
After exposing the truth about the haunted house and its history to a bunch of people and basically got laughed at, main girl planned to burn the house down, but then the white lady threw a lighter at the dad who was drenched in lighter fuel, and her burning dad walked to the house (yeah just straight up walked and didn't scream) to light it on fire. At the last chapter main girl kisses her love interest, but they don't really get together since it's pretty left open ended. It kind of hints at a possible sequel.
It's not really a horror novel. The closest thing to horror it had were the scenes with the characters eating food that might have parasites in them, and the whole colonialism part.
It's an okay book for me, but I wish I had known it wasn't scary since I first jumped into it wanting to be spooked.
By the way, the haunted house's name is 'Nha Hoa', meaning 'Flower House', and I think that's pretty.
Now here's Korean fan trying to hold all the romance webtoon recommendations 🙊🙊😅
👀 what's ur recs
@@withcindy Damn what I wanted most to rec is not on international website but it's going to be adapted into drama soon so I'll wait.. Here are my rec list
1. My Boo - pure and heart wrenching love story between a woman who is hurting and a young ghost who's stuck on the house.
2. After School Lessons for Unripe Apples - cute, wholesome middle schoolers growing up and learning about first love. >< childhood friends trope is what I live for.
3. Cheese in the Trap - previous webtoon by 2's author. Is it romance+thriller or campus romance? Find out on your own! It was a mega hit when I was in high school.
4. Whale Star: The Gyeongseong Mermaid - beautiful and tragic love story set in colonial Japanese period. Is love a luxury when you lost your country? Beautiful drawings, interesting characters and heart wrenching storyline.
5. Happily Ever Afterwards - cute and wholesome romance following all the cliches but in a good way! Cute, comfortable ride till the end with occasional hot body display in seemingly wholesome watercolor drawing. Same author with 1.
6. Love and Leashes - soft and cute introductions to BDSM.
Everything is completed except for 2!
24:12 The next reading Vlog will be in one of my favourite cities in the world. Jet setting Booktuber OP
I miss the crepes in Paris so much
14:48 Thanks to horror movies, I still have this fear of waking up late at night, switching on the light and seeing my reflection move independently from me.
I'm too blind without glasses to notice anything
My sister was in town the other day. While here she reminded me of college nights when the house where we lived played this quasi-electronic game but when the munchies hit all we could do was order in. So, we'd give the pizza guy an extra five bucks to stop by the gas station for a big bag of candy. Later on, much later, when I was an adult, about two or three am we would go to an all-night restaurant, like The Brasserie, and chow down for an hour or two. They used to make this delicious French toast with orange slices, and of course the onion soup was out of this world. Thx for the memories.
idk if this is a weird or dumb question but when you travel how do you communicate? like did you learn a little bit of the language or did you have a travel guide or go to tourist places where english is spoken commonly or did you already know the language or something? not just this video specifically but when you go other placs too
We had a tour guide!
@@withcindy cool, i like to think i'll do some traveling later in life so its helpful to know options for comunicating
I always love the different vlogging shots you do! they always have a nice vibe to it 💕✨
also about the cultural identity topic mentioned earlier in the video- I do relate to that a lot. I think it’s because I’m Filipino and grew up in America. I never felt Asian enough mainly because I’m not East Asian (Chinese, Japanese, Korean, etc) and some of their culture is more well known compared to Southeast Asian culture. tbh I kinda wish I had the same mindset where I didn’t care much about being “not Asian enough” but I think I’m working on it 🥰
proud of u for working on it
Their hair looks so much better up
Looked up weather in Vietnam... pretty much the same as Iowa during summer. 🥲
But the humidity is INTENSE HERE 😭
There are lotions and jellies that foubke as mosquito repellants. They smell good too if you get the ones you like.
havent tried those! ive only done mosquito spray and those bracelets
watching the ad and thinking "when did Cindy get a bookshelf?!"
btw why does the recap of the book kinda makes it sound like Mamma Mia! but with actual ghosts instead of a 1 song allucination?
I'm subleasing a place that has a bookshelf!
15:23 Weren’t there mosquito nets available?
I get mosquito bites just from stepping outside
9:12 Yes, I’ve had an experience. I felt like someone was sitting on my chest and not in a good way.
That sounds so scary !!
i got curious as to how hot vietnam is bec of your reaction so i googled to compare with philippine’s average temperature and GIRL idk how you would survive ph coz it is hotter here 😭 i feel powerful knowing this somehow (but we’re melting on a daily 🥹)
i'm always amazed by people who have NEVER experienced sleep paralysis! i get it like every 6 months, at this point I'm barely even scared of it. i just get annoyed lol
That rly does sound annoying!! I'm a pretty deep sleeper so I've never woken up to something like that
@@withcindy they used to terrify me as a kid, now i know it just happens when my body is so exhausted it's trying to FORCE me to sleep. "oh dang, i REALLY gotta sleep fr now"
Quote of the Day: “I’m like, this b***h better have travel insurance.”
Says me, who never buys travel insurance
Paused part way through just to relate to the second generational imposter syndrome of not feeling versed in your parents’/parent’s culture and language. I feel bad for not knowing Vietnamese because it feels like it creates a distance between me and my Vietnamese family members, especially when they struggle with English. Like they shouldn’t have to accommodate for my white-washed ass. 😭😭
At the same time, I remember sharing that struggle on another video and someone was like “just go to Vietnam and connect to your roots” like that was a simple thing to do (it was judgy too, like your prof pic is a white man)??? Idk what it felt like for you guys but I’d literally just feel like a tourist lol. It’s not like my inner Vietnamese is magically called to for wandering the lands.
Yeah I definitely didn't feel like I was more connected to my parents' culture or anything like that while I was in Vietnam. If anything it just made me think about how difficult it must have been for immigrants to move from a "third world" country and start all over in the US. So I think it gave more perspective about the lives immigrant parents had beforehand, but not necessarily me feeling like I'm connected to my roots or anything!
@@withcindy yeah, I can't imagine what it's like to suddenly immigrate with little resources. 😞 It's cool you had that reflection while you were there, I hope you guys had fun! 🐃 I'm disappointed the book had a weird solution to the problem though lol
Elias is me: I don’t believe in ghosts, but what if they’re real? 🫣 I’ll just respect any ghosts that might be around and hope they don’t decide to haunt me.
That is prob the safest option tbh
The thing about heat is that the more you wear, the more you're protected, but don't layer with whatever wear fabrics suited for heat!
Bro the hair color change was so fast I thought I was imagining things. 😂
😅 he bleached it in vietnam
