Punk was put in the position he was because he felt like he had to be the adult in the room and all of the executives were either acting like children or too cowed to stop the people who were acting like children. It seems like Tony is booking for a company full of Hulk Hogans. He has some control over the direction of the ship, but he can't prevent any of the wrestlers from exercising their "creative control" (because he's too agreeable, not out of any contractual obligation) and punching holes in the bottom of the boat. Tony seems too nice for AEW's good, he wants to make his friends, the wrestlers, happy and he doesn't have the snakish instincts of Bischoff, the (sometimes delusional) self-assuredness of McMahon, or even Jim's ability to chew out a guy that's gotten on his nerves so he has no ability or desire to sell his vision of the company over what his talent wants to do. I disagree with him in this one. Aew looks identical to late wcw in my opinion. Nothing but high spot matches, 15 minute brawls, and no long term stories
WCW 2000 was still miles ahead just with the fact they had a veteran roster and younger wrestles who were trained well that still could make a match halfway watchable, even if the show and angles were terrible.
Its such BS. AEW aspires to be WCW Nitro but presents like WCW Thunder. Billy Corgans NWA looks like Midsouth and Smoky Mountain but a parody version..
It looks to me like Tony is trying to make wrestling for average people by having average people wrestling... Does that make any sense? But anyway, he doesn't understand that that's not what people want! And of course he also doesn't know how to book 😂

everything about TK the snowman is fake. every single thing.
He's more like combat zone fan
It bothers me that Smokie Mountain Wrestling doesn't get as much love as ECW. Many names got their break in SMW, but the difference is that Jim didn't owe talent money, unlike that bullshitter Paul Heyman.
I'm sure if Heyman had a rich music producer footing the bill for a promotion that couldn't draw a dime like SMW... it's probably not that hard to spend someone else's money
I don't think tony Khan watched any smoky mountain wrestling. I just think he said that to get a cheap pop.
And he didn’t learn a damn thing
Tony grew up NOWHERE NEAR WHERE SMW WAS ON TV 😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅
This reminds me of Stewart Lee talking about James Corden being a fan of his.
Hmm, Tony Khan was a big fan of Mid-South Wrestling growing up, even tho he would of been 3 or 4 years old. Lol
Is this old? I'm intentionally behind but I listen to every episode on spotify and I can't recall any segment where Jim sounds so calm, even the ad spots aren't this calm
...Oh my goodness, is that early 90s Corny in the thumbnail?
😮
He books like the dying days of WCW
Put Jim in the hall of Fame when Mania comes to Indy...he'll drive up here!
Tony is higher than a kite filled with helium, you cant take anything he says seriously ...
I have that same Smoky Mountain shirt......
Bought it about a year ago.
Billy Corgans NWA looks like Midsouth and Smoky Mountain but a parody version..
so its jims fault then.. ofc
Everything doesn't have to be a hot shot.
Smokey Mountain... Well, Tony is definitely smoking something.
Tony Khan's best skill is consuming something passionately and missing the plot.
TONY KHAN GIVES CORNETTE HIS NEW FINISHER.
CORNETTE KICKED OUT AT 2 !!
You left out the part where that gets repeated 18 more times, but Corny is still kicking out at 2 after each one.
Lets be real here, the dying years of WCW was his favorite promotion. And it shows
It looks to me like Tony is trying to make wrestling for average people by having average people wrestling... Does that make any sense? But anyway, he doesn't understand that that's not what people want! And of course he also doesn't know how to book 😂
Smokey Moutain was the last of the southern rastlin I grew up on. Thank god for public access cabe because I watched it when Inside The Squared Circle aired it in Washington, D.C in the mid 90's.
Smoky Mountain was awesome. I wish the OVW stuff were as easy to find.
Tony never imagined he would be criticized by the ones he idolized. The son of billionaire has never had to deal with criticism or any real issues in his life. He’s just emotionally immature & you need to have a backbone to run a successful business.
Tony must really likes 2000 wcw. Cause that's what aew looks like every time I turn it on.
He said the same thing in Philly for ecw 😂
Tony Khapper
Tony Tony Khopper 🦌
I am a big fan of muscle Cars
Do i know how to make’em? No
This is fucking hilarious
I don't believe that not one bit. His booking speaks for itself.
If Tony liked SMW so much, why doesn't he copy it? It'd be a hell of a lot better than what he's doing right now.
Tony could learn a lot from Smokey Mountain. They draw the same crowd size. Now if he can learn their storytelling…..
I'm sorry but if Cornette would just come out during an AEW show just to trash it; I would pay money to see it. I mean Cornette managing FTR, MJF, and turn Powerhouse Hobbs back to a heel would be gold. Cornette actually running AEW with Tony Khan wallet would bring a tear to my eye.
No it wasn't Tony! Everyone knows you are a Japan and WCW mark. Did you say that just to piss Jim off?
