This is a video of the "Ryogoku Cup 2024" Awaodori event held by Awaodori dance groups from four Tokushima universities (Naruto University of Education, Shikoku University, Tokushima University, and Tokushima Bunri University) on June 30, 2024, in conjunction with the Tokushima Marche.
Although this event often takes place under cloudy skies due to the rainy season, many visitors came to watch the students' performances. This year (again?), alumni of the student groups were involved as event staff and joined the students in the final wild dance performance. It was heartwarming to see their dedication to supporting the Ryogoku Cup despite their changed roles. I hope this tradition continues to be passed down and becomes a prelude event to the summer Awaodori!

Awaodori (Awa Dance) is one of the most famous traditional performing arts in Japan, with its history of more than 430 years. "Awa" is the old feudal administration name for Tokushima Prefecture, and "odori" means "dance". Awaodori Festival in Tokushima City is held from August 12 to 15, attracting over 1.3 million tourists every year.
